Hi,

Is anyone running your Cue Monster with a windows 7 machine with an installed parallel port?

Nope

You may want to ask this question on the Mach support forum. I use good old Xp. Computers are cheap with Xp already loaded. I don't use a printer port though as it is not as strong as a smooth stepper. Plus with the smooth stepper, I get 3 ports.

Jim.

Jim,

Thanks Jim I will check out that forum.

I agree that XP works great.

You can not get drivers for a Windows 7 machines to install XP.

At some point in time the old machines will be very old and then what?

Rick

Mach 3 will run on W7 if the computer is a 32 bit system. But as far as i know Mach 3 will not run on any 64 bit computer. Mach 4 should be available soon.

Mach 3 works on the Windows 7 platform but runs very slow on the DRO when running a program. I installed a parallel port on the computer to hook up the Cue Monster but Mach 3 it does not communicate with the CNC Controler.

I guess I will have to go back to my old machine with XP when it is fixed.

Will be looking for Mach 4.

Thanks for the info!

mach will run perfect on a 64 bit machine but will only output via ethernet or usb

Many moons ago, we were looking for outdated hardware for just this reason.
Therr were some suppliers of new 'old' components.

You might want to try to locate someone who still does that before
it is an emergency.

Dale(who is mostly old 'new' components himself)

Good advise Dale!!

I hope that Mach 4 will accommodate the deal in the future at sometime however.

Just tryin' to help:).

My concern is that by the time they update it - it will be for the
dreaded Windows 8.

Dale(who is still a victim of Vista - but has a plan to escape)

I just had to get a new desk top computer because of lightning.

It came with Windows 8..

I liked it when I looked at it... it is very strong in graphics and wants to look like a big Iphone. Then I tried to use it and found that all the things that made windows intuitive were gone. Then I hated it.

I took about a whole day of playing with it and watching "how to" videos on youtube to learn how to use it, I also got an app to put the start button back on the desktop screen.

Now I love it. I think it is great but I really can't think why we had to do it........ Most people will hate it because of the learning curve.

I did not see anything on that link about Windows 7..........

Kim
It is under the "requirements" tab.

"Mach3 Minimum Recommended Requirements:

*Use of Parallel Port for machine control only on 32-bit versions of windows.

32-bit Desktop – Parallel Port Requirements
32-bit version of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7"

Not tring to through any more curve balls in the mix but you may want to ready this http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/endofsupport.aspx

If you are using your machine as a tool and do not connect to the internet (stand alone machine) then you are good. You can get some more years out of the xp machine if no harware or operating system fails. So basically the company or companies that supplys your software have to advance with the move of Microsoft supported Operating System.

Reach out to that company software support and make sure that you get the proper specs of the software befor you decide to of buying a new machine. Even though new deveployed software could support 32 adn 64 bit Operating systems.

better be safe than sorry.

Hi,

I would never hook up to the internet with a dedicated machine for CNC! Very sound advice.

So I guess it is safe to assume that no one is running their Cue Monster Controller with a Windows 7 machine. Maybe the new Mach 4 will be the answer but I am not holding my breath.

Yes, I bought a new PC computer with windows 7 and am striking out. Thats what happens when a old Mac user of 30+ years thinks that things should work better when operating systems upgrade. The PC world is like going to the "Planet of the Apes" to me??????

Oh well my daughter who is starting college this fall just got a new computer. LOL

Thanks,

Rick

Mach4 is not going to solve LPT issues. Your problem is that tech is advancing and the way your controller accepts inputs is not. Someone early on already gave you 1 of many solutions. This is likely in the top 1% of Mach3 discussion.

I made the mistake of leaving my PC for my CNC on line.
I will not do that again.

I use windows XP with mach 3
