The Poolhall, "The hustlers and the losers"

I have no respect for "hustlers" in the game of pool. Figure out a fair game between the two of you and may the best man win. Hustling is for losers who have no respect for the game. 99% of the time we are talking about, self absorbed, ego-centric, narcissistic, scared to improve douche bags who do nothing but a disservice to the game. All I see when I come across a "hustler" is a scared little piece of shit with little to no faith in themselves, low self-esteem, and a complete lack of pride. **** em.

This has to be one of the worst comments of all time, I guess you really hate FATS, Uj Puckett, Jack Cooney, Thats if you even heard of these great pool playing hustlers.

Man have you even spent 1 day in a real pool hall, by these comments i wouldnt think so.

So what do you think that every pool player should come to a pool room and pull out his little black book and sit there with his opponent and try to determine what a fair game is, please.

Just like FATS said every one has a hustle, his just happens to be with a pool stick!

EVERY POOL PLAYER MATCHES UP TO GET THE BEST OF IT, UNLESS YOU ARE CHASING LOTS OF MONEY, THEN ONE MITE TAKE THE WORST OF IT!

There is not 1 road player that is going around looking for a fair game, and i dont blame him, thats his job, he is there to win money not to shake hands and be friends!

So there will always be hustling in pool, thats just the nature of the game for many players!

I'm not a big fan of hustlers, but they do have their niche in the world of pool.
I can't abide losers, though, and by losers I mean drunks, druggies, liars, and thieves. :)

The hustlers and the losers are the same thing .both will part with their money one way or another .,,

Show me the guy that don't hustle and only matches up fairly 100% of the time and I'll show you a loser at least 50% of the time so why gamble?

You could say the same about most everything. More businesses fail than succeed, etc. There are a few hustlers out there that made good decisions. What I've been taught is exactly what Tai said. If you're only looking for even games, you're not getting far.. or you're losing it slowly to your opponent that is the actual favorite. May as well go around flipping coins. I like a good game, but I'm not giving up my money that easily.

Ne'er-do-wells all

I think everyone that beat me should give my money back. I would never have played if
I knew you were better than me, and you didn't bother to tell me. You are all just self-
absorbed egocentric ne'er-do-wells. And you mister C.J. going around wearing clod-hoppers and a makin-bacon hat. I hope you're real proud of yourself. In the unlikley
event that I ever beat a stranger you can bet I will adjust the game until he gets even.
and I can leave the pool hall with my head held high. And another thing, why not split
the money in tournaments evenly with everyone that enters and trophys for all.

In a recent post, Straightpool_99 says hustling is a gray area. I agree. I also believe all areas have some gray in them, including even drunks, druggies, liars, and thieves. There is a gray area to everything. 8 million stories in the Naked City, blah blah blah.

Sorry, forgot who posted this, but here it is: "Way too many people in the world pirating software, rolling stop signs & sneaking candy into the movies."

I have a response for that and I'm adamant about it. I drove a cab for 33 years, never had an accident - probably the world's greatest driver ever - and have rolled thousands of stop signs. Not because I'm in a big hurry, but because it makes sense in every way other than when you get snagged by a cop fishing for revenue, which is their primary job. I hate the way "rolling" through a stop sign can go from anywhere to blasting through without looking to stopping as briefly as possible and moving on safely. I know the comment had nothing to do with pool and even agree with the point of the post - but I just couldn't help gritting my teeth and seething with memories of rage induced by totally unfair stop sign rolling citations. I know what comes next: "Well, just stop then if you don't like paying the fine." Point is, I do stop - just not long enough to fulfill the legal definition. Come on, any person who stops at every stop sign they ever encounter and counts to 3 while letting the car slip into idle is someone who probably shouldn't be on the road. People like that deserve to get hit from the rear, or have their car stall out in a weak idle as young thrill seeking punks converge on their vehicle with grinning faces and chain swinging arms.

This was a "gray area" type post,

A few good laughs in there, especially the opening. I get your point. Again, I'm the gray area guy - (beats 'fence sitter') - because the truth is that most if not all things have a gray area. I prefer speaking only for myself, not always doing a good job either - but think it's fair to assume from the anti hustling posts I've seen that those people are talking about hustlers who have crossed out of the gray line and are obvious out-and-out scum. Of course everyone who lives is a hustler of sorts. I believe we all know that most people who don't care for hustlers are referring to some pretty shady characters, some of whom might not be so shady if they were good enough at the honest hustle of life to not make ripping people off their only calling card. Let's be honest, there are some real scumbag hustlers out there. Low life types. Not everyone has the talent or good fortune to be a lovable old sly fox who rips you off so sweetly you're willing to pay him to do it again.

While I do agree with the intent of your post, I think it is funny that you say that people who actually obey the law shouldn't be allowed to drive.

I'm glad you found it funny because my purpose in life is making people laugh. Ok, let's adjust it a hair. They should be allowed to drive, but I can guarantee you that drivers as overly careful as those who would make it a full time practice to stop a full 3 seconds at every single stop are probably pretty dangerous drivers to be around. Same applies to speed sometimes. I am not in a hurry, I'm not *****ing at the slow drivers, although indecisiveness can get on my nerves. There is a street here where the speed limit is 20. It's a great fishing hole for cops because the speed limit is so insanely low that the only people who won't break it are those who have already been ticketed on that street or those who simply can't drive. So ok, I'll amend it. Let them drive, don't take them off the road. But watch out for them. I'm telling you now, they're dangerous. I leave you with these wise words regarding driving and traveling through life in general. They are not my words but my sentiments. I wish I had made them up. The words are, "Bad brakes make careful drivers." Love it. I have never had an accident, very defensive, very keen on looking ahead at the big picture. Being careful is good, I'm all for it. But if you rode around all day with people who are 100% for every stinking traffic law on the book, you will be hard pressed to find one who doesn't break a traffic law now and then. They just don't drive often enough to get ticketed. If they do drive, it's the same route every day, mostly highway, not a whole lot of different things going on. I gained my accident free driving record through 33 years of driving a cab in all sorts of conditions the average driver will never face.

I've never cared for liars, cheats, thieves etc. Just wasn't brought up to live my life that way.

Every night when I hit the sack, I thank my Creator for being allowed today and ask for one more day. In the morning when my feet hit the floor, I figure its a good day.

One of these days I'm not going to get that extra day out of the deal. But when I consider all the good days I have had, I have nothing to complain about.

I mean, when you can look at yourself in the mirror and know that you've come about all your assets in life honestly and haven't hurt anyone in the process, thats gotta be worth a little.

I know that I worked damn hard to get my 2 Dale Perry 1 of 1 cues. When I go, I figure that who ever gets those will have it made when they sell them.

That and someone is going to get a couple of nice Blue Harleys.

I have been reading a book about strategic thinking and it uses war analogies several times. It says that a full frontal attack has huge disadvantages compared to the strategy of deceit, surprise, maintaining fresh reserves. I think a hustler is using the same principles that a general would use to defeat an enemy. Learn to defend yourself. There is no clean pool its war. Everyone feels like they got hustled when they lose and everyone feels like a hustler when they win. Taking advantage of an oversized ego is just duty. Lol my 2 cents

Yes, a hustler is like a noble victorious general using superior tactics to command his army to victory.

Sure.

Since all's fair in love in war, why not just move the balls when the other guy isn't looking?
Or better yet, jar him? Maybe just hit him over the head in the parking lot and take his cash?
It's what sun tzu would do.

I agree with your post, especially when you say everyone feels like they got hustled when they lose. But I'm not sure I agree with the second part. I always preferred feeling like a winner when I'd win, not like a hustler. Even if I hustled someone, which was rare, it would be the very mild type, such as banging the balls around instead of diligently practicing. I did not consider myself a hustler and would never hope to. But I agree with those who say that everyone has some form of hustle in them. They call it guile. You don't have guile you don't have a brain. On the other hand, let's face it, there are some low life hustlers out there. Nothing against them personally, I suppose. Maybe the low life hustlers deserve our sympathy, not our wrath. But sympathy is a tight commodity with me, so for now I'll hold onto it until something more worthy comes along. Whoops, here it comes now. It's me.

I think the book is a hustle designed to mislead the readers into using the wrong defense maneuevers in a war currently being planned by the guy who wrote the book and the people publishing it. It's a trick. It's right up there with paying $49.99 for a book called, "How to Become a Millionaire Like Me"

Some of the most disgusting hustles are not related to the poolroom. Some are very intrusive and criminal in my opinion, such as cops posing as whores or drug dealers and pretending to be people's friends just so they can arrest them for revenue or just the glory of it. Those people are not called hustlers, but in my view they are the worse kind. Why must everything be so black and white? Let's just admit it, maybe everyone is a hustler in their own way, but some ways are simply more unacceptable to more people. "I hereby sentence you to 5 years in prison for being found unacceptable." Then, turning to defendant #2 the judge says, "And you, I hereby sentence you to 20 years in prison for being found even more unacceptable.

Unacceptably Yours,

TJ
