he told me he had been trying to buy a cue most of the morning and no one even aknowledged him. never judge people by apperance they will fool you most of the time. the other was a well dressed younger man that took up over 4 hrs over 3 days and let me know he was a big collector and the only cue he bought was a adams (new) 160.00 from another dealer , lol .I also heard another story where a cue maker told a very welthy collector on the site here, not to touch that cue you prolly couldnt afford it!:D

Sound like the story of Howard Hughes, and the Cadillac Salesman who blew off. Hughes both the Dealership, and first thing her did was fire the guy who blew him off.

I recently was told about your coments about me Knocking Bill Shick.
I would never say any bad things about Bill Or his cues .
Bill is and has been a friend of mine for a long time.
Its strange to me that you would say something like that.
I dont say bad things about any cuemakers.
Most of them are personal friends.
If you have any more to say about me, be a man and call me.

I thought about it long and hard before I posted that story, not wanting to get into a flame war, but I'll stick to my story. Like I said this was many years ago when you still had your shop in Quitman.

Maybe you were just joking when you said that, but it still made me feel as you were devaluing my cue in front of other players.

If you read more of my intitial post I said you were an alright guy, except for that one comment.

My vote is Dennis Dieckman. I had one of his cues which had a pronounced rattle under the handle. I called him & his reply was "Thats how my cues sound" Yuk Yuk. Nuff said.

THAT'S BECAUSE PAUL MOTTEY AND JAMES WHITE ARE TWO OF THE NICEST CLASSIEST GUYS IN THE BUSINESS. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG DEALING WITH THEM

I'VE NEVER DEALT WITH LAMBROS, BUT HAVE HEARD ENOUGH OTHER BAD STORIES THAT I NEVER PLANNED TO EITHER.

I guess this is why these posts are so tricky. I've bought a cue from literally every great and many not so great living cue-builders at one time or another and I have to say, my experience with Mike Lambros is right at the top of my list of the best. I really can't say that I've dealt with an arrogant cue-builder, some of them tell me things I don't always want to hear, but that's how it goes. I've always found getting things from Ernie or the Tad shop to be a little difficult, but I would by no means call them arrogant. Maybe it's hard for the Southern boys to communicate well with the left coasters. And by the way, my Lambros is the best one-pocket cue I've ever owned, it is almost telepathic.

LOL Arnot it's ok every one no's a good tip job only cost 10 to 12 buck.:D

This is one fast growing thread!!!
I haven't dealt with many cue makers other than a few PM's here with one exception. I sent Bryan Mordt and email regarding a cue that I have and since my phone number was on the email instead of emailing me back he actually called me. We talked awhile about his cues and possibly making one. Not only did I find him incredibly helpful but was a pure gentleman. My main playing cue is a BCM and I love the hit. Not sure about bad ones but Bryan Mordt is definitely a good one.

most arogant cuemaker

those are some great yarns bout sigel. and not surprising. is sigel also on the most arrogant player list?

Marcus,

My personal experience of the most arrogant cuemaker would be a conversation with Mike Lambros regarding making JP's for a new cue of his that I just paid 3k to own. He told me to not waste his time. May he suck on sea weed and bad sushi the rest of his life.

Danny

I've had a similar experience with Lambros. He was a total jerk!!!
Will never talk to him again.

My guy?:
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
Bottom line is that the one that jumps to my mind did me right in the end, so I am keeping it to myself, as he is still in the game.

Blud gets my vote

Makes a great cue - and not afraid to tell you how great it is and all the others are crap.

My best experiences have to go to Klein and Mottey. Mottey actually called me up a month after my cue had been delivered to ask me how I liked it and if I needed any changes. Wow - talk about customer service. When I ordered it he told me 6 months. 6 months later I got the cue. He is one of the greats. Klein also goes out of his way to make sure your happy.

IDK about the comment on Tony Z.....
I've spoken with him many times and he's been nothing but very nice, informative & helpful.
He doesn't have as much time to do cues as he is more focused on family; which is admirable IMO.
While he makes a nice cue, it's up to him if he doesn't want to as much any more.
IMO I don't think he blew it or arrogant.

In all honest Tony make a nice cue, you can not take that away from the Cue-maker part of Tony.

But his customer service, communication with customers is poor. Yes he spend time with family, and that is important I agree.

But we all juggle our time between family, work, self employment, volunteering, etc.

Some people IMHO should not be self employed, if they do not understand customer service, and communication with customers being a very important part of being in business. Some people in business hire a part time person to do paper work, and correspondence because that is an area of business expertise they are week in.

I was self employed about 20 years, it was a service business, and great service was all I had to provide to make me stand out from my competitors. Did fairly well, as I was able to retire at a young age.

The negative was my life was not free to do the things many with a 9-5 job can do, as I was pretty much on call 7 x 24 x 365, and when the phone rang or beeper went off., I was off to work. Not complaining, but I had a 110% commitment to my client who paid my bills when they called to give me work.

Its not like Tony has many customers waiting for stuff, then comes on here to continually post while the orders get behind or anything. I mean there are many ways to get caught up, including working on orders.

Tony is a nice guy, and there are a few guys that caught fire and couldn't handle the order load. I would think that like in all businesses there are good time managers and good workers. However, it is my opinion and only my opinion that the "family" excuse goes right along with the "doctors" and "I have been sick excuse" and the plethora of excuses that come with late deliveries and broken promises.

If you really make cues as a hobby, you would know better than to take 20 cue orders with a delivery promise of 3-6 months. I am not saying that is what happened, its just a hypothetical. If you do it as a primary source of income than you will learn how to space your time accordingly.

I think people learn to adjust over time, however it is always better to promise long and deliver short than the other way around.

I would have told that p.o.s. to shove that stick up his arrogant ass. Then show him all the cues you just bought and tell him you'll continue to spend your money elsewhere with REAL cuemakers. Then ask him how it felt to get raped by Efren in the IPT after he talked all that trash about how he owned Efren.

i just realized i was back-reading to 2008. this one is funny as hell.

Only a few

I Saw Something In The For Sale Section That Made Me Think.......

In The Years That I Have Been Buying Cues, Who Was The Most Arrogant Cuemaker That I Have Had The Pleasure To Speak To????

So Here It Is, And I Wondered What Others Thoughts Were As Well......

I Was At The Super Billiards Expo, Wondering Around Buying Cues. I Didn't Know Any Other Collectors Than, So I Mainly Kept To Myself. I Had Bought 3 Or 4 Cues Already That Day, And Had Them In A Case I Was Carrying. I Stopped At Mike Sigels Booth To Look At The Cnc Crap He Was Selling, And To Make Fun Of It..... I Gave My Case To My Girl To Hold So I Could Pick Up This Ebony Cue, With The Most Wasted Ivory I Had Ever Seen. One Of The Guys Working The Booth With Mike, Tapped Him And Told Him To Turn Around.......... When Mike Turns And Sees It's A Younger (20ish Year Old) Guy Holding The Cue (me), He Laughs And Says

"why Don't You Just Put That Down, It's Not Like You Can Afford It Anyway"

My First Instinct Was To Smash Him In The Mouth With It, But I Kept My Composure. Laughed, Set His P.o.s. Cue Down, Got My Case Back, And Started To Walk Away..... My Attitude Got The Best Of Me When I Stopped And Turned, And Told Him To Go Ask Richard Black How Much The Young Kid Had Just Spent. Then I Smiled And Walked Away.

Has Anyone Else Had An Experience Like This? I Hope I'm Not The Only One.

My choice has already been identified on this thread.

But I've had mostly good experiences. Danny Janes, Jerry Pechauer and the OB folks always respond to emails. Timmmy Scruggs loaned me a brand new cue when mine was stolen in '94.

A while back I bought a cue that still needs identification. I contacted about a dozen big name cue makers. Several didn't respond. One who did asked for photos, which I sent. Never heard back from him. Another said, "Don't bother sending pics unless you think I made the cue"...how could I know that without his help? Another said, "Send pics and $50". I would have been glad to pay that, IF he could identify the cue, but just to look at the pics?

On the other hand, Barry Szamboti and Richard Black went out of their way to help me. Richard asked for x-rays of the cue, which I sent. Though he couldn't identify the cue, he did tell me what it wasn't, but that it was a finely made cue.
