New Video on Front Page

I just put up a new featured video on the home page that is a 2 hour match between Mosconi and Fats.

The first minute or so of the video is very choppy and rough. Just hang in there and it smooths out. This is classic Fats.

This is AWESOME! Imagine if anything like this was on national television now. This one had everything, drama, barking, flashing the bankroll.

Those who say pool can't work on TV should be forced to watch this Clockwork Orange style.

Imagine it, this was on LIVE with the most famous sports commentator not only commentating but also mediating between Mosconi and Fats. And Cosell actually knew enough about pool to do a great job calling the game.

You make the call

You're the ref. Did Mosconi foul on the 8 ball, grazing the 9 ball first?

(EDIT: Don't see the slow-motion replay a few seconds afterwards, unless you want the answer revealed.)

Jerry,

Thanks for putting that up. I can't remember when the last time a watched that.

There is some interesting stuff on there to watch when Willie is stroking it.

Regards & Best Wishes,
Rick

Thank You for putting the video up Jerry. It brings back fond memories of my Dad and I sitting in his living room laughing out loud at Fats and Howard playing to the crowd and TV viewers. Howard bought many mainstream viewers to pool, boxing, and other sports. I don't know how believable he would be today with the mainstream viewers, but they loved him back then. As far as Fat's, I think even today most would get a kick out of him. Johnnyt

Thanks Jerry, thanks a lot............. It's 7:20pm and I just saw this post. Now I'm torn, do I watch this now or later..... I want to watch it now, but it's "SHARKWEEK" on Discovery. Damn you....

Wait, I just had a thought. Discovery repeats the shows after midnight. I'm golden..

On a serious note, thank you for posting this awesome match.

Great Stuff..

It's been years since I've seen that in its entirety. Thanks for letting us all remember how ENTERTAINING pool CAN BE!

Thanks Jerry !

Howard Cosell alone is worth the price of admission; thanks for posting it.

great to see this, I remember it as if it was 40 years ago!

does anyone know, or remember what cues these guys were using?

I wonder what it would be like to play on those conditions, today.

Pockets looked like they had a better "pocket drop" then some of today's tables.
Rail bounce.
Cloth they used?

Anyone know the details of what they were playing on?

The promoter was Charlie Ursitti and he is still alive I think. He would know.

Willie's slip-stroke readily apparent

Yup, I agree. Willie's slip stroke (a moderate slip) is very evident in many of the camera angles.

Especially at 12:55 when Willie shoots the 8-ball as seen here:

...and at 19:05 on the ball in the side pocket here:

(Apologies to those few who say that Mosconi didn't or never had a slip stroke, but that is a classic slip stroke. A small one, yes, but if you watch Willie carefully, you'll see that he slips and regrips on the delivery like this on more than 50% of the shots where the camera angle allows the viewer to see Willie's grip hand the whole time during cue delivery.)
