keep hitting shot with right english

I made a small wood frame that I set up on the corner rails behind the pocket.
There is a narrow shelf where I can place a mirror, directly above the pocket.

When I am on a straight in shot I can see if the OB, the CB and shaft are in line and my
chin is over the shaft. After shooting I check for both the shaft and grip hand alignment.

OK after about 10hrs of practice Saturday I have come to the conclusion that my eyes are playing tricks on me. I took a straight in shot got down on the line and fired it in with extreme draw. Of course it had right English on
. I took the same shot lined up with my left eye closed opened it after I got down on the shot and using extreme draw fired it in and drew it back perfectly. Does anyone know what this mean? Or maybe how to adjust myself properly??

Do you practice shooting the cueball towards the middle diamond down table, letting your cue rest in the finish position and see where the ball touches when it comes back up from the rail?
It`s a pretty easy way to develop a straighter stroke.

It means your head is in the wrong place, most likely. You may want to try what I suggested above (cue stick on supports and exactly aligned) which is one way to check how you see the shot. Also, look at the link Neil posted just above.

Yes sir that's how I figured out that I was hitting the ball with right.

Yes sir I will try that tonight.I've been practicing a lot here lately getting ready for the amateur championship. And I'm sure with some of these tips I'll be able to work out these problems before I go go play. Thank you guys a lot for your help. And I will update you as soon as I get a chance.

I agree that it is a pretty easy way to determine whether or not you're hitting the ball with side spin, but as far as developing a straighter stroke, I think that could be a pretty hard thing to do, depending on the particular issue.

some good responses-
and as Fran has shown up it can be pretty hard to fix something, when you don t know what s really *going wrong*. With just trying on your own it can be a one-way street where things get even more worse.

As promised I would update with progress. I have made progress on finding the exact center of the cue ball. Now as we all know when something that is deeply embedded into your game any change comes with playing worse before getting better. Since I was hitting the curb all with right I had been aiming all shots with right English. So now I'm working on adjusting my aim for pocketing balls. I think with about 6 or 7 more hours of hard practice I will be pocketing balls a lot better than I was before beforehand when I was hitting everything with right. As I've adjusted my aim to focus on hitting the cue ball and object ball correctly I have also at the same time worked on my fundamentals to make sure that I always deliver correctly. If anyone has any more suggestions or comments please feel free to give me any pointers. Thanks everyone for there help

Also, I actually had the same problem of applying right english when I thought I was hitting center ball. Because I'm right handed/left eye dominant, my cue was at an angle.

Recently in the last week I did something that you could also try. I rotated my hips just a little more than usual. This has straightened out my arm and cue, and now when I aim at center ball, I'm actually hitting it.

Impossible. You can hit anything but center with the 3rd eye.

Dave,

I think he might have meant that the guides where not allowing him to hit center with the poor stroke.

And perhaps the visual may be a problem that is making his stroke seem worse than without it.

I could be wrong. But you are correct unless the unit is sliding too far up on his shaft.

Regards & Best Wishes,
Rick

I don't know much but if you are right handed and you have your elbow straight and your wrist cocked a bit inside this could cause this problem. You think you hit the center but you don't. This is my opinion.

He needs someone like Scott Lee to do a video analysis. There are about 100 things that could be causing his issue.

If the 3rd eye doesn't show him the right way instantly... he needs a lot of assistance from a pro instructor.

I watched JT's video on the 3rd Eye. Like him, I'm also right handed/left eye dominant. For years I always thought I was aimed at CCB, but would almost always have some sort of spin on the ball (usually right).

Today I tried my new slightly adjusted stance. I also aimed at what looked like to me 1/2 tip to the left of center. Sure enough, I had some really good results. Especially with straight in draw shots.

It's going to take a bit of time to get used to the different picture I"m seeing now, but I'm excited about it.

That's me in a nutshell. I have to hit about 1/4 tip to the left of perceived center in order to hit true center. I'm also left eye dominant and right handed.
