American legs weak on foreign soil? Or simply not good enough?

Agreed. The MC proves nothing. The World Cup of Pool, however, amply demonstrated where the powerhouses really are. This would only become even more apparent with longer races, more players per team, different breaking positions or any of the other easy excuses thrown up to distort reality.

Question is, will the US/Euros continue to fall and Asia continue to rise indefinitely? That is by no means certain, but we certainly need to take note of what they are doing.

Scotch doubles is hardly an indicator of ANYTHING. A team with two guys that play the same style, will beat two players that have a similar skill, but play differently. Not to mention the team is only as strong as the weakest player. See team Canada.

Don't say well there's only one way to play right, and that would eliminate that issue. It wouldn't. Rythem, style of play, how different players play position and transition, etc. All come into play, and there's not a right and wrong.

And for all this talk about proper form and technique, what about Alex P.??? Explain to me how there's no way he is a top player, his form is FAR from perfect?

I said future world champs.

At some point you have to realize that at their level, (American, European, whatever) on any given day any one of those people have a shot at winning it all. People winning major tournaments is as mush about being in the zone at that particular time and getting a good draw as it is anything else. They are all great players at that level. Some have a better win record than others but I wouldn't count any of them out completely.

You are fooling yourself if you think that just because someone has a background in snooker that it makes them a superior player.

Please tell me who you think is the current best in the world? And if you would bet two nickles against my list of top USA pros? You probably wouldn't even back DAZ playing Mike D. or Shuff. You're all bark no bite!

I offered to bet you, I'll even bet cheap. $20 on USA in the Mosconi.

Well of course...

However, lots of European players DO have a background in snooker. Correction, lots of UK based players have a background in snooker.

I play snooker. Not very well and not often but I do play snooker. You can't play cue sports in the UK at least seriously without throwing your cue at a snooker table once in a while - even if you are a pool player.

I've played drunk snooker with Melling and watched him knock in back to back centuries.

I once watched Gareth Potts play Mark Selby at Great Yarmouth play one frame at snooker for £100 (before Selby was known for snooker) and, knowing he was outclassed, Potts smashed the balls potted a red and cleared up.

A break and run out at snooker.. lol

Appleton, Shaw, Tucker (RIP), Peach, et al - all can (or have) made big centuries at snooker..

But snooker is snooker. Pool is pool.

However, as Appleton said not long back in a TAR prequel "if pool continues in the 10 footers, the snooker players, with better 'fundamentals' will be over here and cleaning up"..

Don't need $20 that much but thanks.. I'll bet you for the bragging rights...

I don't believe I have. What I have said is America is on the slide in terms of being able to compete with players from other nations. You have rested on your laurels and not innovated or modernised your structures.

Would snooker fundamentals help pool in America? Yes, but poor technique is not the only thing wrong with your game. You have systemic cultural issues that are not being addressed any time soon, and these are acting as a barrier to the next generation. I see it here every day - you like classic rock, moaning about the government and nostalgia.

Your pool demographic ages at the same pace as your decline.

Sadly, I don't gamble. If I did, i would bet the farm on Daz against MD or Shuff (who?). In fact, I would bet the farm on Daz against any American bar SVB.

And WTF is Phil??

I was wondering how this thread got to 4 pages, now I know. So what is the current line on the upcoming matchup between the Euros and the US?

Pro pool is becoming more and more like pro snooker anyway, with fast cloths and shimmed pockets, and more emphasis on touch, timing and technique.

Snooker players still see American pool as a game for girls. That is the problem there. Even English pool players are sniffy about it.

Those are the only words that mattered. Snooker and Eng 8 Ball threads are elsewhere.

As a British American Pool fan, I'm embarrassed at your posts. I'm also confident that one or two of the players you mentioned would cringe if they read them.

You really believe that JA can't win a World Championship again? He is a threat to win any tournament he enters. Earl, as well, tho not to the degree of JA at this point in time.

Yes. I'd say it's highly unlikely he'll win another WC, although old dogs occasionally rediscover old glories. No disgrace if he doesn't - it's a big ask at his age.

I'm sorry but I just don't see your players with the same eyes you do. There is a massive gulf in class IMO.

Thank you for your comments..

Which posts exactly out of interest?

If this is a confirm on the bet, I will ask that you donate here when I win. >>> http://billiardeducation.org/

I am all for it. Glad to see you ACTUALLY stand behind your comments.

Sounds like you two got a friendly bet on...he mentioned the Americans are going to get thrashed, I would like to know what line he is offering if he wants to bet it up. I haven't even looked at the lineups but will throw down some green on the US if the price is right

The way he's talking I should EASILY get 2-1, but I'm OK with even. I wanted to see if either would back up their words. Ron Swanson won't even respond. He's scared some non-snooker players are going to wamp some ass..
