Latest Fields Cue Case off the bench

Nice looking case, simple and elegant.
Curious though, what's the "lid" underneath the top lid for?

I've found that a lot of people like cases without exterior pockets, but still want to have a way to carry some chalk or tip tools. It's a pocket without the pocket so to speak.

Here's the interiors that I build. Old style tube case with upholstery grade velvet liners. The fabric is thick enough it is it's own padding.

Can I take more pictures of this compartment you describe? How does it work? I like this shape and style. I'm rarely a fan of tube interiors but this one is very well put together.
Nice work once again.

I'll have to get some more pics for you. It's a strap/band inside the lid giving a 1" deep cavity. The prototypes I first messed with, I used two pieces of leather glued together. While it's a little prettier and allows for carving etc, it was a hard surface. I worried about a joint pin bouncing against it if the case was dropped etc. To eliminate worry and beef up protection, I'm now using the same 1/4 thick EVA/cloud foam rubber that I use in the bottom of the case, cut a little oversized for a friction fit when installed. Gives plenty of storage for a couple cubes of chalk and a couple tip tools, burnisher etc.

I love it. I've always wanted a compartment in the lid like that. I've never seen anyone do that, and for a long time have wondered why not.

I wanted a "pocket" for a cue ball of mine but didn't want it visible. I also didn't care for a small pocket just for chalk. This is what John Barton did for me

Edit,

To OP I really like this case. I like the color you went with as well. Beautiful overall. I like your lid a lot too.

Very nice.

So it is a 3 X 5?

You should be very proud of yourself.

Thanks! Yes it's 3x5. I prefer this configuration over the round 3x6.

Thank you sir! Yes, I have 2-3 hours in the guts alone... Lol
Very nice chuck! Love the color!
Thanks! I call it dirty tan....

Nice, clean work, Mr. Fields. I love the old school tubes interior. Sweet case!
Thank you!

Thanks!

Beautiful case . Do you think it's possible to do a 2x4 in this shape?
The layout of the pipes dictate the shape. I would have to build a rectangular form that my 2x4 interior would fit in. Doable maybe... Would have to play with it

John Barton has been doing stuff in the lid for a long time. Mine is nice simple solution for storage. It works out well for those who don't like pockets.

Thanks guys, it means a lot to me!

See, there ya go. ....
Thanks for the comments!
Chuck

I didn't mean to not post something lol.

I really do like your case a lot, I wasn't just saying that.

But I did want to point out the stuff you case makers are able to do with case lids.

I really like my cases to be clean outside and not overloaded with pockets.
