On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

You guys are going to wear out your bodies playing all this pool for such small amounts. You have to be like me and not even step to the table for less than $1000 a game. :-)

I remember the days of staying out all night, sleeping at the room and then waking up to play some more. Can't do that anymore.

Good luck on the road.

Set up about 4 lessons today.

Pretty tired. Rhea had some action for $50 per rack and couldn't win because she was too tired. Lost $200. Stayed at the poolhall all night. slept a little on one of the couches there and got up and started playing again. she said she didn't know how long she slept.

I did 2 lessons today and made about $100 playing small sets. good for me to try and stay in stroke a little bit. Tough call because my shoulder feels like it is going to fall off right now.

Hope it feels better tomorrow but it probably won't. it usually takes about 3 days of not playing to start feeling better. Right now when i take a big stroke it just doesn't work right. I miss the ball like a foot. Pretty frustrating.

Got to get some sleep.
The advice I gave to Gene (less than a week ago ) applies to Rhea too:
Hi Gene,

The above example that you cited where you played until 8am is what prompted me to write my earlier posting. IMO, you need to take much better care of yourself. After all, you're not a youngster anymore and you have medical issues to attend to. You need to conserve your energy and get your sleep too. That's nothing you don't already know but aren't practicing.

By making some changes to your routine, you may find yourself sleeping better, have fewer aches and pains, and play better too. In any other sport, a coach would tell his players the exact same things.

Going to talk to barry tomorrow about working with the leagues to give mini perfect Aim lessons.

Sounds like ya'll are gonna miss out.
Rhea has lots of fish waiting for her at Brickyard.

Lesson today at Q Masters............

I have a lesson with a young man , dean mclain tonight at Q Masters.

This young guy is trying to play better pool and I'll have a lot of fun showing how to get there.

As usual he cuts the balls good one way and the other way is really bad. All I had to do was show him how bad the problem was and he was all in to fix it.

It's amazing the percentage of players that i teach when i really show them how this works. Sometimes it's as high as 50%.

It's going to be a tough night for me. My lower back went out. I've been pushing it a little playing allot and it's just my body telling me to slow down.

I broke my back in 1999. Had surgery about 4 months later and it's always been a little delicate since then. I'll just wear my back brace but I probably will have to rescedule my later lesson.

I will be passing out fliers to the league players but the league is in the smoking section of Q Masters and I can't go in there because of my lung health.

I'll have Rhea passing out fliers but it probably won't work out as well as if I did it myself. can't talk a little to each player one on one.

Barrys staff at Q masters has been just super. The secret to having a great operation is having a good staff and that Barry has.

My hat's off to Barry for a great US Open and a great place to play pool for the pool players around Virginia beach.

See ya all at Q Masters tonight.

Gene, you're falling apart like a cheap suit.

You better get a little r & r, take a couple of weeks off.

Gene, your threads have always sounded more like an ad for perfect aim and a poor me, and my health blog.
There aren’t many that were “A” players and above that can play at that same level at 60 and over as they did when youger. That’s just the way life is.

I played “A” pool on a BB just into my 60’s and then had two strokes and a heart attack. I’ve had a bad back for over 40 years and now have arthritis in every joint in my body. The balls in my hips could give out at any time as x-rays show they are eaten away and just about to pop. I can only move my neck 30% in each direction. I have a condition in my feet that amounts to me walking on the bones. There is more but I’m sure you get the idea…I’m a wreck.

After the 2nd stroke I lost all memory of how to play pool. That’s why I started coming on AZB to ask a lot of questions that I had known before the stroke. I bought a Valley BB and kept changing the ridgeback rails smaller and smaller until they were 4” for all 6 pockets. I read and re read books on pool, bought a bunch of DVD’s, and watched hundreds of videos and streams to get back to where I was at one time. For the last 2 years just to keep playing I had to take pain pills, ice, heat, Doctors, and Chiropractors just to see my game slowly falling backwards.

When you have health issues over 50 you can kiss playing pool at a high level goodbye no matter how many fingers you put in the dike. But one thing that can’t be taken away is all the memories of the nights you took it off with a crowd cheering around the table. Johnnyt

He told me his AZ name but I forgot.

he told me where he was from and I forgot that also.

Was a long day but ended well with a lesson.

Real nice guy and he played well also.......

Hi there Johnny and i feel your pain,

I'm still trying and I share my setbacks with everyone because i try to keep it real. I'm not making excuses for playing bad but just explaining why it's so hard to play sometimes.
Rhea's afraid i'm going to quit playing anytime and then our trip will be over. But in all reality I'm pretty stubborn and love pool. My body is already a wreck and I'm still traveling, teaching and trying to even play.

I even win a tournament here and there though that car accident really slowed me down because it slowed down my thinking. I had a mini stroke back in 2008 and my memory after the concussion was worse then back then but then again I don't know because how do you know what you don't remember if you can't remember.

I feel I can still squeeze out a few more years but only if I can kick this diabetes thing in the ass and get rid of it. That way my body will heal up. I'm not blowing smoke by thinking I can get rid of being diabetic because right now I've been off meds for about 4 months and my blood sugar only goes up a little bit.

If the blood sugar gets too high the body takes forever to heal up so any little ache or pain takes forever to feel better.

When I play for 8 hours one day I feel terrible the next. Everything hurts because my body won't recover.

Right now I'm down to 182. When I get down to 170 to 175 my blood sugar will stay stable because the cells will all be smaller and will not be insulin resistent any more. This is where I'm trying to go.

When I played Chris Bartram I was on this journey to get this weight down and see what I can do with my game. Not an excuse but wasn't where I wanted to be to play well.

The second day I played I had a hard time getting out of bed. I had one week to get ready to play and I wrecked my shoulder the first day of practicing 6 hours so the getting ready was out the window. Not an excuse but a reality. But that's where I'm at right now, I just can't play good enough or can't even practice enough to get there. I know that you entirely understand this with all the health issues that you have faced.

I'm going to keep going until i hit 170 and see if what the doctors say is for real. If so my body will recover and I might even be able to work out again and see what I can do again.

I'm just a pool players that is at the tail end of the road trying to squeeze out a few more good years and having fun trying it along with all the aches and pains.

My lower back today, all of a sudden, just quit hurting. Pinched nerve for sure. Feels great now. I even went looking for a game after my pool lesson didn't show up. In fact i felt so bad before the lesson time was that I was kind of hoping it would be a no show. That's how bad I was feeling.

Anyway Johnny, this is part of the story. Many of us are going through the same things getting older and being banged up. I think by sharing this with many players they can really relate to the what is happening out here on the road.

Many players can't even believe I'm still out here.

When I went on my first road trip when I was 19 years old I loved it. being on the road.

41 years later I still enjoy it immensely. So here I am.

One of the last real road players in the world. Been there most of the last 4 years except when I was healing up from one of my mishaps.

This is not a week or 2 trip like some players might do. I'm in for the long haul and dread the day i will have to stop.

Fortunately I feel that is a long ways off.

One man a van and still on the road and lovin it for sure...........

Trouble on the road.....

The biggest trouble on the road is trying to tell the person that you are with that you know how things should be done because you've been there before. There is no substitute for experience. Especially when it comes to things that are a no brainer.

Last night Rhea talked to a guy that knows the guy that she lost $200 to for $50 per rack mostly because she was too tired. Stayed all night at the poolhall and slept a few hours on their couch and then tried to play the guy that will bet some money and is the right guy to play and played so bad she couldn't beat anyone.

We talked about it and I voiced my opinion on how we need to be totally rested when we gamble.

Then i told her the guy will probably play me. She voiced her opinion that she wanted to play. I told her on the road here it doesn't matter who wants to play, that we need to make the right move. If I'm playing a player and giving up a spot that I can't lose with i need to be the player.

Not her playing even after she already lost. We don't need to experiment with our money out here. I would get the cash and that is what matters.

If I had to give too big of a spot , which is not likely in this case, then she would be the best choice.

With Rhea Still on the computer at 4:00 AM I roll over and go to sleep. At 10:30 I wake up and she is back on the computer. Don't know if that is why I woke up but it's probably a pretty good guess.

I kept waking up. At 10:30 we had only 6 1/2 hours sleep at best. I keep waking up and each time I do I hear moving around in the room. I need to sleep as much as she does if I'm going to play.

If we don't sleep enough we shouldn't play anyone.

here is the post from her thread talking about playing the guy.

Nice, I can't wait to get back to the Brickyard, I really should be sleeping right now but I am too excited about tomorrows match. I am playing a guy at Q Masters tomorrow at 1 PM for $50 per rack 9-ball, I will let him increase the bet and or play him until he quits.

There is no time set up to play, all she knows is he was playing poker last night and comes in during the day.She doesn't even know his name and has no phone number. I for one am not going to get too excited about this because he might be playing poker until 7:00 AM for all anyone knows. If so he probably won't be stolling into the poolhall at 1:00 PM. He might even be sleeping until 3:00 PM.

Anyway, I keep getting woke up so I don't get good sleep and I know she didn't get enough.

Still trying to sleep at 2:00PM she wakes me up to let me know that she is going down to the poolhall to play this guy. I told her to call down there and see if he is there? She said she didn't know his name? I told her he probably isn't even there?

She left with the van to find this guy to play without asking me if it was OK. I'm not very happy to say the least.

Now we got our big gun sitting at the motel room and the little gun trying to slay the elephant.

Granted she is not as tired as she was the first time she played the guy but with me 6 1/2 hours or so is not enough sleep.

It's 3:00 PM now and I'm sure the guy probably isn't even there.

If he is there we should be trying to get him to play me. Then have her to play after we win some cash.

No matter how you cut it today is a carnival act at best.

I'm not a happy camper right now.

Over the years I've been on the road for about 15 years if you put the times all back to back. That's allot of experience. I learned not to make the same mistakes over and over again. I always went on the road by myself because usually when i went with someone they would lose all the money by making bad decisions.

Unless I can get a handle on this our time on the road is going to be cut real short soon.

And it's not a matter of losing money sometimes but just not being able to make it when the timing is right because of bad decisions.

And i don't care how much a player wants to play the game, if you can have your fastest horse run the race for the cash you need to do it.

Guy didn't show up............

Like I figured. Nothing set up there was allot to do about nothing.

Getting all excited, not getting enough sleep, and me not sleeping all for nothing.

I made friends with a guy that has a bar in town and going out there to give lessons. Kind of funny but the players that Rhea talks to are trying to tell her I need to go out there and play the guy.

I'm going there at 9:30 to help some of the players on his pool teams.

For me it's all about trying to help players. I could stalk around and try to get action but my main goal is to teach players how to play better. Perfect Aim gives just about everyone a quick boost.

The skill level of all players is way ahead of the eyes. The eyes are the toughest part to get right because the non dominant eye is always fighting to be dominant with all players.

if a player plays 8 hours a day seven days a week they will start getting there from repetition. But most of us can't play that much and never would get them there anyway. Learning the correct most dominant position is so much easier.

I called Rhea and she will be picking me up. it sounds like the guy she wanted to play will be at the poolhall later.

Let's see now. Not enough sleep? been at the poolhall all day? Bad position to be in to get ready to play some $50 per rack 9 ball with someone you lost to a few days ago.

No matter what happens, the outcome would always be better with the proper rest.

I'm even still tired after getting woke up after about 6 hours sleep, then trying to grind out a couple of more hours getting woke up continually. I don't know if I even want to play anyone.

The not enough sleep is the downfall of most road players. You just can't perform well and just tend to make bad decisions.

I share these things with player on here so they can learn before they try it also. many young players bent on taking to the road can learn some good stuff from my thread here.

I'm not picking on Rhea here but sharing the mistakes that really don't seem like mistakes to the average person on the road.

If you always do what you've always done,

You will always get what you have always got.

Mistakes on the road....equals going broke...............

People remember their big mistakes. Sometimes they can afford it and sometimes they can't.

It sounds like you two need a budget and live by the budget, no matter what.

If you can't live by the budget, you might consider partying ways.

There's a lot to being on the road with a pool pal. Both parties have to be economically RESPONSIBLE.

I think one party needs to be in charge.. Gene. No more ifs, ands, or buts about it. What Gene says, goes. Nothing happens unless Gene says so, he sets up the game, he approves the game, etc. If little miss know it all wants the "free" experience of traveling with a road player, it's time to shut up and listen. It has to be his way or the highway at this point... time to put the foot down, or put the foot on her arse out the door... Good Luck...

Gene, you need to get across to her that she wanted to go with to LEARN. Yes, she has the "passion" to play. But she needs to learn how to control that and use it to her advantage. If she's not willing to forego her passion at times because it's the right thing to do at the time, then she isn't learning, and it's time for her to go her own way and learn the hard way.

I understand Gene's point of view but I definitely do not need anywhere near the amount of sleep that he does, I know my body I need 7 hours maximum or I will go crazy, he needs 10 hours minimum to function. for the record I beat the guy out of $600.00 today. But if I had waited around he might not have even played me, sometimes you know when to go after a good score.

Nice win
600 is a good score

This is a great soap opera. Thanks for all the free entertainment you two. We are living on the road vicariously through you.
