i do not think str8shots has any intention of trying to cut tar out of a ppv. i think they do not want john playing danny period after learning of the animosity between these 2 players.
Agreed....

I dont know what Str8 shots is or what they do. I heard they were sponsoring some players by paying entry fees to events. If they have John under contract so be it. I think its weak sauce that another entity wants to come in and capitalize on a rivalry TAR made possible through the production of two previous events. There is a well documented history of TAR trying to get this third match to go so any other explanation is simply smoke and mirrors to cover up the fact they want to cut in on something TAR started.
I'm not really surprised though about the contract thing. I have always thought something like this would come to be eventually. I thought it would be with Bonus Ball but even as vocal as I have been about their missteps they never once pulled the contract card to prohibit one of their players from doing outside events.
Things like this happen every day in other sports. My mistake was trying to run TAR like someone who loves the game and wants to promote the players without controlling them. I have never claimed to be a good businessman and a good businessman would lock guys up. If this is the new landscape then TAR will adapt or get out just like any other business. Lots of others have tried to get into the "Challenge Match" game over the years from the IPT to InsidePool. So far we are still here so I like our chances.
I hold no ill will towards John as he is honoring a commitment he made and I respect that. Same goes for Danny if he decides to play. He has to pay his bills like everyone else and should take the money if he likes the deal. Str8 shots seems to think there is some big windfall to be had with this match. Maybe there is due to the history of the rivalry. The history that would not exist without the two previous productions.
I understand its just business. In the future I will treat it as such.
Thank you to everyone who has spoken up for TAR in this thread. I appreciate your support very much.

and that is just plain dumb on their part, period. How in the world can a highly viewed ppv telecast that members of the pool world community will be watching that has a player sponsored by str8 shots wearing their patches/gear/etc...be a bad marketing move on their part?
Even simple minded people can grasp that concept and unless they've done ZERO research or have absolutely no advertising or marketing acumen, then there is an alterior motive because it just makes no sense to piss a huge cross section of your target audience off AND forego a lot of free exposure.
It irks me how many people feel compelled to instantly voice negativity about an issue on
these forums.
I made the above post after reading the thread title and first couple paragraphs of the OP. Not gonna lie I was kinda hot.
I see now that Str8 shots doesn't want to do the match. They also don't want anyone else to do it. I don't know if that is more annoying than someone trying to jack it.
Maybe I'll try again next year when Str8 shots is gone.
They are trying to promote a youth pool movement, and they don't want their name to be associated with that kind of pool match, by one of their sponsored players.
For better or for worse, that's the way I think they are looking at this.
Dont plan on them being gone next year. According to their online records they made a heafty income last year. Way more than what I would expect their online store to bring in . . .
well, first, their website is a jumbled up mess. It doesn't mention any kind of youth pool movement in a path that can be easily followed or clicked through. It's very vague to say the least and I can't tell whether they are just a calendar for events, a testimonial site for a few players, or a supply store. Which is it?
After quickly perusing, I'm coming to the realization that they may actually have no clue about advertising, marketing, web analytics, SEO, etc... Which makes the whole stance against the match seem more plausible given it's blatant disregard from a business benefits standpoint.

I understand that point of view.
Now if someone can honestly tell me no one involved knew the history between these two this whole mess would make sense.
From what I can tell they organize events and send proceeds to charities and bef is one of them. How much they send and how much they keep or psy to the expenses I dont know.
Moses smell the roses! What is wrong with you all? Here is a pool entity trying to do some good in the pool world, and now this forum wants to build a nest in their keister.

Makes me wonder just how much these charity events gross and what the net amount or "all proceeds" total are sent to the charities.
I donate to pros and have donated to BEF. I just don't have a website or company. Honestly, there is nothing stopping them from doing that. They don't have to stop a highly anticipated pool match in order to support the junior program!
