TAR PROPOSAL - JOE ROGAN vs MANNY PACQUIAO

I know you meant that as a joke but I believe if he was already in Las Vegas and Reyes was involved he would do it for the enjoyment...He loves pool...Asking him and Reyes to fly over might be a stretch....

I agree with you 100% on the thought that it ISN'T IMPOSSIBLE to envision. It just takes the idea to be planted and the time and place to follow.

In between racks they can hop in the ring and do one round of MMA.

I wanna see this! What a cool idea!! Why does pool have to be so drop-dead serious all the time? Let's have some fun!!

This idea appeals to more than "one" audience. It appeals to the pool audience (to include league players, of which some can't name a pool pro), boxing/UFC audience, and the people who love comedy/reality TV.

It also could have a buildup showing them "practicing" for the match. Sort of like the HBO series 24/7 where they follow the boxers training up to the night of the actual event.

Pool, ALL ALONE, is going to be a product that is hard to sell to the masses. If you PACKAGE it as ENTERTAINMENT, it may be a little easier to get it on TV. Earl is MADE FOR TV in today's world and Efren is a Pool LEGEND. Packaging them with Joe and Manny would put this package on the charts.

I just envisioned pitching that match to Manny:

"Look man I know you usually make millions for a fight but I'm offering you a real opportunity here."

If I were going to propose something like this to Pacquiao, I would do it as a charity event. He is supposed to be a very charity minded person.

I can see it now... "Manny, come over here and play pool with Joe and we can raise hundreds of dollars for your favorite charity..."

Realistically though, he would probably end up spending more money in airfare, lodging and food then what the charity event would raise.

Mr. Hawaiian Eye, (may I call you "Eye-man" for short ?)

I think your idea would be a PERFECT way to promote pool to the masses !..I am truly impressed, that a guy who got a 1200 post thread started, by trying to match up a good current player, (Bartrum) with an over the hill 'former' 9ball champion, (???) could be so innovative and insightful !

You have come up with the perfect cast of characters, to make this a super special event !..Joe Rogan already has a strong following, from his "Fear Factor" and UFC TV exposure, plus his comedic expertise and pool knowledge !..Manny Pacqaio would be a great draw from the sports/boxing world !.. Rounding out the pool teams, with Earl and Effie, would be pure 'made for TV' magic !..Great thinking on your part ! (but you knew that ;))

I can't help but wonder, If forum member's were given a choice of watching YOUR concept, versus an exciting (?) version of the amazing wonders of "Stratagic Nine Ball", which one they would want to watch !..But, alas, this is JMHO !..Perhaps one of our expert geeks, could set up a POLL, so we may determine which offering "Joe Six-pack", (and ALL the pool buff's in the world) would tune in to watch ???

SJD

PS..As a former bookie, I am setting the line at 99.9 % in favor of the Eye-man's offering,..
versus .001% for the "two-shot foul 9ball" extravaganza ! :boring2: :boring2: :boring2:.........And, the window is WIDE OPEN !

Not sure why you think that. I think is a dead heat.

Joe shot pretty decent the last time I saw him play, and that was about 2 years ago. The last time I saw Manny play he looked like he had very little experience. I could be completely wrong, but if I had to place a bet I would go with Joe.

That is probably true !..From what little I've seen of both their games, Joe would have the edge in pool skills !...But also, based on UFC type fighting (NOT BOXING)..I would probably make Joe the favorite over Manny, "in the cage"... Don't get me wrong, I love Manny as a boxer !...I am mainly talking about both their appeal to the general sports minded public ! (as was the 'Eye-man") :D

I would have to go with Manny in the cage, but I would like to see it. Personally I think Joe would get knocked out cold before he could get close enough to take Manny to the mat.

Well........I don't know about that. Joe Rogan being a 2nd degree black belt in Jiu Jitsu and his extensive experience rolling with top MMA fighters is impressive, but I doubt Manny would let him anywhere near him without ringing his bell big time. Probably the fastest, hardest hands in his weight class, ever. If he got him on the ground without getting decapitated, ok. But Manny will land three REALLY hard shots before Joe gets anywhere near a leg.

As for pool, Joe might just have him. Manny's better than he looks and gambles hard, but Joe's pretty damn solid. I'd like to see this in a Scotch Doubles format, as opposed to just coaching...maybe some good ole straight rotation at some point?

LOL! You have to LOOK BEYOND the MONEY matter!

You HAVE to approach him from the "MACHISMO" angle!!!

Something like, "Joe Rogan says he CAN KICK YOUR AZZ playing pool!"..."and he don't give a flying F$&K if Efren is your coach!"

Then get Earl to throw in a comment about, "pool was brought to this country by Europeans on ships...yada..yada...and cowboys brought pool out West on stagecoaches...etc..etc...Americans are the creators of modern day pool and they can kick everybodies azzes if they put their mind to it...!"

You have to get the "RIVALRY" started before you build up to the event (if there is to be one).

Manny LOVES being in front of the camera. (He has been in his own movies, TV shows, and he has his own musical band, etc., etc., etc.). If he thought he had a SHOT at an AMERICAN PRIME TIME TV show, do you think he would turn the offer down?

I think he would do it just for the chance to stay in the limelight and for something OTHER than boxing. He likes to show he is a man of many talents...boxer, Congressman, business man, etc.

how about rematch of TAR 29 all around, shane vs dennis.

manny stakes dennis for 50k. AZB has shane.

i've read that manny stakes ronnie alcano.

That dog won't hunt! Not in the theme of "bringing pool to the masses!" You can have these types of matches ALL DAY, EVERY DAY for a year and you wouldn't get ANYWHERE NEAR the exposure you would get even if you ONLY got Manny and Joe for just a SINGLE matchup on TV.

I've had this thought out for quite a while and producing this story (if they agreed to play) would almost be a piece of cake. The back stories are already there...there is plenty of footage of EVERY one of the participants (Joe on Fear Factor and from UFC, Manny from the boxing world, Efren from his many pool accomplishments, and same for Earl).

You could tap into their lives growing up in both countries. You show the different cultures between life in the Philippines and the USA. You show how they "interact" with everyday people. You show their "personal" side.

This may also interest the old war veterans who travelled the Pacific during the past 50 years or so. Maybe Earl could get all wound up and tell how General McArthur should have been a pool player instead of a General. The program could steal some viewers from the History Channel and the Travel Channel. There are unlimited ideas that could be built into this matchup that would appeal to audiences of all types.

All I need now is an MC for the show! Maybe CJ would volunteer :) to do that part. He is a professionl pool player and he also performs well in front of the camera. His beautiful partner, Mary Avina, could assist him.

OK...now I got it all figured out...where are my "backers"? This show is a "lock"!

P.S. This would be a GREAT opportunity for CJ to expose his documentary on Earl and the Million Dollar Story. He also could hold the match in his new poolroom in Dallas. See folks, I already got this under control...just bring in Steven Spielberg now...or the producer of Survivor (he knows a good storyline for reality TV shows).
