TAR PROPOSAL - JOE ROGAN vs MANNY PACQUIAO

I've had this thought out for quite a while and producing this story (if they agreed to play) would almost be a piece of cake. The back stories are already there...there is plenty of footage of EVERY one of the participants, Joe on Fear Factor and from UFC, Manny from the boxing world, Efren from his many pool accomplishments, and same for Earl !.

You could tap into their lives growing up in both countries. You show the different cultures between life in the Philippines and the USA. You show how they "interact" with everyday people. You show their "personal" side.

This may also interest the old war veterans who travelled the Pacific during the past 50 years or so. Maybe Earl could get all wound up and tell how General McArthur should have been a pool player instead of a General. The program could steal some viewers from the History Channel and the Travel Channel. There are unlimited ideas that could be built into this matchup that would appeal to audiences of all types.

All I need now is an MC for the show! Maybe CJ would volunteer to do that part. He is a professionl pool player and he also performs well in front of the camera. His beautiful partner, Mary Avina, could assist him.

OK...now I got it all figured out...where are my "backers"? This show is a "lock"!

P.S. This would be a GREAT opportunity for CJ to expose his documentary on Earl and the Million Dollar Story. He also could hold the match in his new poolroom in Dallas. See folks, I already got this under control...just bring in Steven Spielberg now...or the producer of Survivor, he knows a good storyline for reality TV shows.

Yes Eye-man, I could see you've given it some thought !..I kinda distracted a few guys there, talking about a Joe and Manny cage fighting !...Sorry about that !..As for their mediocre pool skills, that would not matter one bit ! ...This has NOTHING to do with fighting either !..Its all about presentation, and could be a big shot in the arm for pool, in general !

As for your idea about CJ, and holding it at his pool room, I think that would be missing out on a possibly HUGE live gate, with hundreds (thousands ???) of screaming fans !..CJ and Mary would make excellent promoters, As would Justin (TAR) !.. We are talking potentially, about "Mosconi Cup" type crowds here, or larger.. And no pool room, anywhere, is big enough for that !.. But then again, maybe a pool room atmosphere would be ideal !..If it got picked up by a major network, and was a hit..the live gate would be 'peanuts'..Let 'em in free, like they do all the TV shows ! ;)

I think a good sized facility in Dallas, Atlanta or LA, would be ideal...Definitely NOT Vegas !..That is just one (of many) reasons why Bonus Ball failed !..There is quite simply, WAY too much else to do there !

As you can see, I've been thinking on it too, Eyeman..I think I could sell it in Phoenix, or any large metro area !..(how about Manilla or Tokyo ).. I'm quite enthused about the idea, but I am little too 'long in the tooth', (ie; poor health) to even try to get the ball rolling !..Anyway, those details would be best decided by the BIG investors, if SMART money ever took hold of the concept !..

PS..Good Luck, and keep pushing it..It could be the best thing to ever come out of AZB !.. I will do all I can, from behind this keyboard..Maybe Justin, or somebody, could point this out to Joe himself !..He might take an interest, when he's on break from his day job ! :)

Here is a proposal that would have international as well as "star" appeal.

Have these two dudes match up in a game with a "pro" coaching each of them.

Manny can have "Efren" (or a Filipino champion of his choice)

Joe HAS TO HAVE "Earl Strickland"

This match has "pool", "drama", "comedy", and lots of other attractions all rolled into one.

When one of my proposals finally gets set up, I'm not even going to charge fees for thinking it up. All I want is pool to get some exposure and what is happening to today's pool world isn't exactly getting broadcast out into the mainstream. Something like this would draw people into the "reality" of pool.

I can see "REAL TV" broadcasting a matchup like this.

I love this idea, like you say EYE real tv would be just awesom!

I don't care what TAR charges, I would buy that in a heartbeat. $100 PPV?

I just envisioned pitching that match to Manny:

"Look man I know you usually make millions for a fight but I'm offering you a real opportunity here."

I am surprised you would think the concept of a match like this, would be so unrealistic !.. From what I've heard, Manny has gotten religion, and doesn't even gamble anymore !..He still loves his pool though. Don't you think there is at least a chance he may be receptive to something of this nature ?..Efren could probably convince him it could be a worthwhile project..The human interest/reality angle, has lots of appeal too !..If done right, it might be received (by non-pool buff's), even better than the actual pool game itself. They all have interesting life stories to tell !

You would be dealing with two people with 'real' star power, and two of the most well known pool players in the world !..Wouldn't that be better than trying to drum up a match between Schmidt and Hennesy, or SVB and Duell, for a few K...Isn't there a MUCH higher chance for profitability, via streaming or "real" TV ?..It may not be easy to put together, but the potential rewards could be VERY significant !..The renumeration, for all involved, could, and should be, contingent upon its success ! JMHO

Joe shot pretty decent the last time I saw him play, and that was about 2 years ago. The last time I saw Manny play he looked like he had very little experience. I could be completely wrong, but if I had to place a bet I would go with Joe.

Manny might look like he can't play, but he is a player, believe that!

Jeeziz, people.

The deviation from reality that occurs when multiple people run with an idea is scaring me.

Did the Eye honestly get applauded for pitching an idea that claims to have the potential to bring WWII vets to the (pool) table?

LOL. Rally the troops, boys! I work 300 yards from the USS Arizona Memorial...directly across the harbor. I see more veterans of Pacific wars in a day than most people see in a year. Go to the Philippines if you want to see vets who have decided to make it their home.

There are tons of veterans who have served in the Philippines who may be interested in watching a program with a Pacific island theme. They may remember the days they served and drank and played pool...amongst OTHER things.

Are you Hawaiian Brian? I saw you posted on a thread about being told you could potentially go with Keith back in the late 70's and I can think of about one Hawaiian that could have that claim made about him from that era without it being pure fantasy.

No, I ain't Hawaiian Brian, but I know him...talked to him just last night. I didn't say I could BEAT Keith at any time...I said I think I could have hung with him at that time. It wouldn't have been highway robbery on his part.

The only way Manny would even contemplate doing this is if he was matched up to play 9 ball
with Floyd Mayweather.
Floyd would only play, if Manny got a random drug test before breaking!
The only upside would be if both Floyd and Manny got to punch Earl in his mouth!
Rogan would probably be on the sideline eating elephant balls preparing for
the next Fear Factor!!

If hey want to show the true reality about pool, they should send a camera
guy into a few of many dying out, empty poolrooms across the globe and
zoom in on the owner sitting at the counter with both hands on his cheeks
just shaking his head wondering where it all went wrong.

The climax of the movie would be when the Camera guy makes things worse
by saying ''Doesn't look to busy in here. You don't charge for water do you''?

The owner proceeds to jump over the counter and beat the guy to death with his own
camera screaming''Do you want some ice with your water, you cheap *****''

Celtic, you da man !...I don't see how the last few negative posters, cannot see this concept for its potential !..If it can be put together the way I envision it, the naysayer's would probably be the first to shell out their PPV $$$, (if it were streamed)

Like the Eye-man says, if it found its way to a made for TV event, It could be interspersed with vignettes, showcasing the lives and humble beginnings of Manny and Efren, and how they came to be Filipino heroes !..There is a ton of human interest there !..Throw in a 'known' commentator...and "Shazam" !

Joe and Earl have interesting lives to portray too, and should be covered. But I see Manny and Efren as being the major draw..Could it compete with the $$$$ generated by a Pacquaio/Mayweather Bout,..not likely !..But, I'm convinced it would still be an easy sell, to a smart producer..And remember, Joe Rogan already has those people's ear !..If you sell it to Joe,
he could make it fly ! ;) (also remember, Efren has Manny's ear.)

I guarantee you, if I did not have 'one foot on a banana peel' (:o)..I would hammer this thing home in a heartbeat !..I am surprised that CJ does not see the potential here ???..Hell, HE could easily replace Earl, as Joe's playing partner !...But, that would lack the unpredictable, love/hate "Nut Factor", that Earl always seems to provide ! ;)

The right producer, would have a sizable investment, but a very salable product, for a 'one time' TV special !..But, If it were properly hyped, and drew the right number's, there could be yearly (?) re-runs, with healthy residual's for all involved !..It would make a Schmidt/Harriman grudge rematch, look like a 'kindergarten play' ! :boring2:

PS..Anyone ever heard the old saw..."Ya play for dollar bills, all ya can win are dollar bills" !..The 'deep pocket' guys, already
know this ! :yeah:

EARL is the KEY to making the whole program. Everyone else is pretty predictable, but EARL is EARL and would EASILY become the STAR!

He would certainly be a key component, but I think the star power of Rogan, (and his comedic chops) and the human interest
element, of Manny and Efren...would outshine any of Earl's 'nut job' antics !..(which really only appeal to us pool degenerates, who
like to see him go berserk :embarrassed2:)

Now if the event was to zero in on the pool aspect, and there was a HUGE purse involved, and fans began screaming for Earl's head,
(ala Mosconi Cup style) I agree, there could be fireworks !..But hey, its YOUR idea, I'm just offering input !

I don't mean everything would have to focus on Earl. What I'm saying is Earl's "personality" normally draws people to him, whether it is intended or not. Some of the shit that Earl says that have NOTHING to do with pool is some of the wildest stuff you could imagine. Earl has an "opinion" on everything and has a way of expressing it.

"I hit that PerPect" he'd say in slightly broken english.

Brian's one cool dude, tell him "hi" when you see him again, it's been 5 years since I was at Hawaiian Brian's.

We had a mutual road partner "Dalton Leong" and I heard many stories about Brian, he played some great pool
here in Dallas and Houston back in the early 80s and late 70s.

Dalton said Brian would get in stroke, hit a great shot and smile "I hit that PerPect" he'd say in slightly broken english.

Yes, Brian is VERY cool. I love talking to him about the "old days" of pool. I remember hearing of Brian playing way back when I was a teenager and working in a pool hall in Southeast MO.

He was fierce for the cash back in the days when he was playing his best.

I'll tell him you said "hi" when I see him next...probably this Sunday if he shows up at the pool hall.

Aloha.
