Article by Badi Nazhat

This article was jaw dropping.

Okay, so maybe Badi Nazhat's opinions have ruffled some feathers, but you gotta give him credit for sharing his hard earned experience. After all, he had a vision to raise the level of the game; held probably the biggest tournaments that pool has seen since the IPT events and this is what he walks away with.

When I first launched my company with the slogan, "Uniting The Billiard World From All Points Of View!", I very quickly found out that not all points of view wish to be united.

I personally, have been played like a pawn between enemies for popularity and recognition. This happened almost immediately after broadcasting a few of my first events, and even though I tried to stay out of the politics, I was inevitably forced into making decisions which would change my associations and support for various organizations.

Even these forums leave me with a bad taste in my mouth at times. Everyone here talks about 'raising the game', 'going mainstream again' or 'giving back', but when push comes to shove and someone has a new idea or project, the very people who profess to want to go mainstream are always the first to take these people down.

I'm not saying any names because I honestly feel that we are all equally responsible. I too, have fallen from grace at times. I can honestly say that I too don't know what it's going to take anymore. I just try to do my part and report the action as it comes my way. I can't see the forest for the trees, nor do I have the resources or acumen to make broad strokes in this industry.

The sad fact is that when people like Badi Nazhat appear with the acumen and resources to make any changes, even he walks away, just as frustrated as the rest of us.

I'm not having a good day.

The bearer of more bad news that no one cares about.

Think outside the box people.

No more bars, poo poo! Get more women and the only way you can build the future of your organization is by teaching children the game of billiards. Chances are that any one of us found our love and passion for this game early on in life.

Marketing forces are a great idea! But please forget about these ones.
Radio (boring)
TV We typically we skip over sooo many commercials that my kids get annoyed when we watch live tv now.
PRINT? OMG can you say the future of toilet paper is in print. What a waste of perfectly good money.

Online marketing, Local Search and Web-based Social market forces are the only thing that can help this organization. Online advertizing and promotional give away's (You don't need to give away $1,000,000 to perk up someones ear). NOT JUST one, NOT at a skeevy BAR,
MANY all over towns and cities big and small. In towns halls, at malls, at parks, community centers, OMG libraries, Schools, and movie theaters. F'kn everywhere, not just in the US, around the world, the Caribbean, South America Europe, Asia, Australia and Antarctica too. That is promotional force.

People really need to get F'k out of that cave and leave behind the old ways of doing things. This is the 21st Century MF.

Forget about endorsements from Poison McDermott, Schon, those corporations are out to save their own a$$. Crowd-Sourcing or Crowd-Funding is the way of the future. Lots of small investors with sensible returns but all in to bring forward new ideas and new ways of doing things TODAY

Badi is a really cool guy and one of my main consultants, John, met with him several times when he was in Frisco 2 years ago. We tried to follow his logic when it came to promoting Pro Pool, however, we never could identify what his objective were. If it was to promote the game then it would make sense for him to hire a marketing/advertising agency to do this job.....and do it VERY WELL....but instead there was no one at all.

We would be doing him a disservice if we didn't point out that he had a very sub par venue and without marketing, advertising and public relations there's NO WAY he or anyone else could have succeeded in the Tunica Event.

I'm just the messenger, everything I stated is the truth and anyone that's in business that reads it will agree. Pool is not unique, it CAN SUCCEED, however, it still must follow all the same rules of business that the other major sports and games follow.

Can you imagine any other major sport not having.

Marketing
Advertising
Public Relations
PRO AMs
CHARITY Affiliates
Business Plans
Short and Long Term Planning
Managers for the Players/Events
TV COVERAGE
Internet Representatives

Badi can succeed, however, he must first define what success is going to look like. No one could ever tell what the objectives truly were, if not profit, what??? Without TV it couldn't have been publicity or notoriety.

The reason for him doing these events is, indeed, a mystery. I wish we could help, but we would have to get some of these questions answered and we didn't have much luck the last time we tried in Frisco.

Please tell us you didn't even bother reading post #78. Because if you did, and you are still asking the same questions.......

Is anyone else about to throw up?

Yeah pretty much. Also you were dead on about tv going to the internet. Not enough people understand that is where the future of television is heading and fast at that. Trying to get pool on regular broadcast or cable tv at this point is unrealistic at best and an antiquated concept at worst. Pool for once is finally ahead of the curve on something technology wise. It just needs to keep evolving.

I'm trying to think of the last time I was watching something on TV, and I ran into a buffering problem.

Oh, that's right. Never.

It happens when you are watching streamed content on TV, like with a Roku.

Anyway, if you're buffering, you should upgrade your speed. It's not our fault the quality of the stream is too good for your antiquated computer.

I like it... +1

Funny how I can watch TAR matches just fine, but when I watched the last day of the US Open on Accu-Stats this year, I had numerous issues.

You obviously know more about this stuff than I do, so please explain how one stream can be great, and another is not.

That answer requires a different thread, I'm not going to digress to that subject here.

Plus, I have to leave the house for the evening. Will re-visit this another time...

There are a plethora of factors which can affect stream quality for the end user. I was just kidding when I told you to upgrade. Hence the silly grin. :D:D:D

Ah, I missed that.

I just thought you were jealous I didn't include you in my list. Don't worry, you were part of the "etc." You do great work.

imho there were no issues with any customers during the US Open. I was there online for the entire event and not one person came into the chat with a problem. tyvm.

Now back to the original topic please.

I'm not sure why TV and the internet couldn't......well......work together? Why does it have to be just one or the other?

FWIW, I'm single with no kids. In just less than a year, I'll be debt-free. I do NOT have a pile of money, but I do have an unquenchable thirst for the game, and consider myself to be pretty selfless when it comes to making others happy and reaching goals that are good for the majority.....not just for myself.

I have 2 college degrees and consider myself to be somewhat intelligent. I want to do something for this sport. Currently, I'm desperately trying to do something for it at the grassroots level in my local area. But, I've only recently gotten my foot in the door.

What can someone with passion, such as I.....and not much of anything to hold him back.....do to help out?

Just show me the plan. Give me the goal. Point me in a direction. I'm willing to travel.

I'll give it one helluva try.

You do agree that it helps to have a business and/or marketing plan first? There was no plan for Tunica, it was just thrown together and expected to succeed.....although there was no clear definition of success, so I guess it was just expected to.

I 100% agree with that.

But my understanding of Badi's definition of success is that he just wanted to see the movers and shakers of pool come together in the name of unity. I think he also wanted to see promises that were made, actually be delivered.

Daniel, what you have to remember is that "generally" when a new entity comes on the pool scene, they want to work with everyone and have grandiose ideas about bringing pool together.

Those people who have been in the game for a while, have already figured out who the shysters and thieves are and they have no interest in working with them again. But those shysters and thieves are usually the first ones to latch on to a new entity because that entity doesn't know of their history.

It really helps to do your homework before affiliating yourself with people in the billiards world. It will save you an awful lot of headaches.

I say give CJ a chance. At least he is talking about it and doesn't want to repeat the mistakes of the past. Seems to me he is on the right track. Not gonna happen over night. Sure someone with money can toss something together and have a tourney or create some failed adventure. For the sport to survive there needs to long term goals. Doesn't help the pro's to toss money at them this year and have nothing for them next year. I don't know what the fix is. Neither does anyone on here. There are many issues and they all need to be addressed to be successful.
