Funny Hat Method

Sure, the money isn't the challenging thing or many people would do it. The key is to create a show that has all the necessary components to be entertaining.

I was thinking we could dress everyone in funny hats like derbies, the referee calls time and everyone breaks down their cues, then the referee says ok boys look under your hats and see who is out this round.

Then the guy who has the unlucky had gets the **** beat out of him by everyone else right there on TV kind of like throwing one to the lions.....

Then some awesome looking girl comes out with a new box of hats labeled Round 2 and play continues.

I'm sorry I have a bad sense of humor....lol...but Id bet more people would watch!!!

That's funny....

The most effective formula is to capture the "heart and soul" of the Game, and that's the courage that it takes to make that difficult/challenging shot under pressure. This is also the highlight in golf, tennis, football, etc.....and believe it or not it's true in pool as well. Pool's not the exception to the rules, it's the "sample example" .

Creating (format wise) the Game of pocket billiards into more of an entertaining spectator sport is not like "reinventing the wheel," it's understanding what the wheel is and fine tuning it to perform like other "wheels" (sports) run. 'The Game is the Teacher'

I am going to be chauvinistic for 5 min, i will agree with you if you make the TV show as an HBO program for adult only!! and gorgeous looking woman and men. Playing good pool is an "option" but pocketing BALLS is a must!!

The other option, make on line gambling legal and let the entire nation watch for their "lottery" wining game..

See the problem with pool it is addictive and it causes families to fight a lot over it. So out of a family of four or six only one person loves pool, the others hate it and will not want to even hear of it in the house hold, unless it is bringing the cheese?

I think we have come up with the right "angle" to show, and hopefully other's will do something with a reality show as well.

The Table

When Mike Massey went to a third world country to do an exhibition, outdoors, no table lights....thirty thousand people showed up. The pool table got em there, everything else Michael said and did was at the core of its success. It's NOT always the game that is the Most important, it's the ''other'' things. This ''third element'' is Critical. Figuring that out is Key.

Production is a total package with the emotional attachments to the participants

The game really isn't the most important thing at any sporting event. Baseball is boring, football has it's moments, hockey is more about the violence, so is NASCAR (crashes).

The "Game" Production is a total package with the emotional attachments to the participants the most important {magnetic} quality......from our research it's the vital component, then it's how to put these personalities into the most difficult, stressful situations....where it's nearly "life and death". ...My personal thought is billiards needs...

It's not about what billiards needs.

It's about what pool players need.

They need money. They need to make a living.

When it comes down to it, pool players are their own worst enemy. If pool was respected for the game that it is, rather than the profession pool players would like it to be, the overwhelming need for money wouldn't stand in the way of pool becoming a true professional sport.

Ain't never gonna happen...even with the occasional stacks of money thrown at it.

To all "professional pool players"...get over it...get a job.

Yes. its the emotional attachment.

Even given the example of Derby Hat ideas I had it puts the audience right in there. So if someone Sucked at Pool and got voted off "Pool Island" something stupid like that gets the audience involved in game and all of the artistry and beauty of the game actually has a chance to entrance a few viewers who see players make a few flashy moves on the pool table. That is why trickshots are popular, it captures the audience.

Something has to become a draw to get people involved and its not just waiting around for a player to make one flashy move. We all know that's not the way people wins games and matches. The percentage for failure is too high but boring pool make the percentage of popularity loss too high.

Maybe we develop a game called "Chicken Pool" and we get a Game Rooster and put him on the table, who likes to protect his table and not let you shoot. Getting to the table and getting a shot might be a interesting for the player and the audience....lol

The Cup proved it as much...

Yes and Yes

Yes,
Its a clever game that takes skill and I used to make a few dollars as a kid at it but it wasn't ever something I wanted to base my Rent on but....with enough Grass Roots support a Profession could be made of it however....we don't have that right now that is what we need to develop.

Tap, tap, tap...

Folks want to siphon from the game without letting it flourish. So the plane never gets enough lift to stay aloft. Like being broke and trying to start a business. Seeds are not given what they need to grow before desperate people try to rape the fields.

There will never be grass roots support. Unless it's from a criminal (KT). Or from a gentleman like this who understandably bails out after he sees what a dysfunctional community it is and how the time/effort will lead to failure.

If the community/businesses don't respect the game, nobody will ever care. I drove 5 hours for a tournament and I'm wearing business casual, I suppose that's too much to expect from the folks who want this game to succeed.

Too much reliance on the paltry payouts, not enough respect for the game. Smart folks will have a real career and enjoy the _game_ of pool for what it is; a game. Desperadoes will continue to kill the game.
