So apparently Pooldawg tested some tips

In their defense, it is very difficult to measure tip hardness. Each tip type, especially non-layered tips, are all over the board out of the box. Once they are "broke in" they are closer together, as far as measurements go. When I did the testing for the Mueller catalog, I tested many, many tips, of each type to get the average. Testing three, as in their desciption, isn't enough. They'll tweak it, I'm sure. Its all a learning process.

Hi,

Triangle at 92 and WB at 88????? That survey does not have much credibility.

The person who complied those numbers has not cut many tips or has no sensitivity.

I'm really thinking they didn't cut these, just took them out of the box and tested. The coating on a LePro would probably test hard.

The test is basically worthless without having all the tips in playing condition with a common profile.
 
I have 1 black Lepro thats got to be one of the hardest tips i've ever seen if not the hardest.....

havent seen another black one in years......is anyone else familiar with that tip?

Do you have these numbers in a list some place without having to click on each tip from the website? Im willing to sit and write all these down, but figured i would ask first.

One thing I would be glad to see is a testing on the tips after some serious playing with them.
How long is a S - S, or does the S become H……?

This however will spoil the fun for many that like to try out tips, to have a new tip to praise or blame is pretty popular I have noticed:roll eyes:.

Now a days I only use Tom´s tips, I have tried everyone of them (except the new VS and the Pro). Sold 100´s of them. Works great imo,very consistent from tip to tip and the consistency is for me very important. If a customer have some bad to say - I give them a new one instead.

Every tip I put on I trim down pretty much and I also break with them, the softer the tip the more they mushroom - all brands at least what I can see. And it´s kind of logical to me and it´s no biggie. Do they need trim after trim however - take it off.

Would love to hear some input from CM´s, instructors and repair guys about it, what do you prefer in a tip, what do you like to sell/advice (if could chose a tip), what would the criteria be in playing style for a certain hardness etc? Just talking about playing style now. Not that I don´t think that the belief/faith for whatever reason isn´t important, I believe it´s the main factor for most. Some like ping and some like pong...

for instance, which tip would you chose to Kiamco or to Mika?
I have my ideas but I already know them so I rather hear yours:smile:.

How hard a tip is on a rubber durometer and how hard they play are totally different. You would need to press every tip in vise under exact same amount of pressure before using the rubber duromater for the test to mean much. That way all tips would be pressed to the way they would play after many hours of use. But even so a pressed Triangle with its coarse leather will play softer than a pressed LePro or Moori. I laughed when years ago they orginally said a water buffalo tip would play softer than a Triangle.

Yes, kind of. I have them all on a really cool spreadsheet that (someday) I'd like to post on our website.
