Cue Experts I Need your Help HELP

Since he did so well on the box cue I will give him 3k for the pair of unknowns. :)

The box Gus did take the sting out of the deal. He gave me the box cue to sell figuring it was the least valuable of the 3. That was a wild week.

Pete reluctantly told me the Titlist was not a complete authentic George.

Ernie told me the same guy built both cues.

I figured A + B += don't bother sending the fancy stick to Pete. Am I wrong?

When I showed the first cue to Barry, asking (hoping) if his father had built the arm, he told me it wasn't his dad's. I asked him if he had a guess who did (hoping he would say Spain) he told he gruffly to ask a living cue maker whose name I won't mention here.

Kevin

Any possibility it is a Jimmy Ingram cue? I had one in the early 80's in that style realm from him.

Anything is possible. But I'm convinced (pretty much) that both cues are constructed using parts from Balabushka's shop.

For JV (i had never considered what you are doubting). ] had x-rays of this one and there is no pin at all:

Here ya go.

Now this cue HAS been to Pete. Pete agonized over this cue, but after a week, decided he couldn't authenticate it as being made by George Balabushka. Pete was sure that the parts were made by George, but figured it had probably been assembled by someone else.

Anything is possible. We had the Gus Box cue screwed together and parked in a corner for guests to use for YEARS. Maybe I'll get down to Ernie's and see how he's doing on his 50th and get him to take the bumpers off. I'm lame I know but that's major surgery for me.

I feel your pain Kevin. I trust you've seen pic's of my cue, which is destined to never be diagnosed. I've asked Tate, Schick, Abbott, Rubino, Zsam jr, Manwon, and god knows who else.

I can only speculate that "someone" in our "wonderful" industry, from the northeast in that era, grabbed necessary materials, used others' knowledge, and assembled a fine cue. Best of luck in cue hieroglyphics. Frustrating, eh?

I know I know I know. Be nice.

When Showman asked for pics and I dug this one out I was asking myself the same question.

I also thought Ernie had refinished them both, but I was wrong there too.

I have no idea what I was thinking of. I was "working from memory" and we can see how that went.

if your god knows who else doesn't include Joe Van Buren you haven't made a full effort. Take some good pics and climb to the top of the mountain with alms and make your request of the master IDer and perhaps you will achieve enlightenment.

If Joe doesn't know then it maybe is not worth knowing. He's classiccues here on AZ if you don't know him.

The x-ray of the connecting pin does not look like the connecting furniture lag bolt Ernie showed me in a Balabushka cue that was in for repair about 10 years ago.

Ernie has a X-Ray of a Bushka in his shop that we matched to this one exactly. It was eerie considering they came from 2 different cues.

Kevin

It looks like a Richard Black that was made to look like a Gus hopefully as a tribute.

I get you on the "hopefully". Seems to me if someone was tributing either Gus or George they would have come up with a butt treatment that was more representative of eithers' work, but no telling what's in someone else's mind.

Thanks

Kevin

Maybe George moved away from the furniture bolt to connect the handle and forearm?
Have you thought of asking Bill Schick? He once told me he patterned the dimensions of his cues on a Balabushka cue. Martin
