Some of you are in my boat. Not old enough for Medicare and still in 60's. Can you afford the nut?

Sometimes I think I am working just to pay for health and business insurance. My health insurance just went up again and the coverage went down.

We participate in Samaritan Ministries health care share plan.
I went 20 years without any kind of health insurance. My wife is not as comfortable with not having any kind of coverage as I am. So we compromised on this Christian share plan.

Sounds like it could be a good service opportunity for ACA to band cue makers together for co-op insurance. Not sure if possible, but maybe worth a look.

Edit...Didn't think about being spread out in different states. Oh well. Probably too complicated.

Respect, Courage, and Commitment!

It wouldnt be that complicated If you found a big enough insurance broker who had multiple states......it could be done.

Sign up and get yourself health insurance. I have bought my own health insurance since 1972. I just signed up for Obama care and for my wife and I our monthly rate went down from $1225.00 a month to $384. Better policy lower deductible, lower total out of pocket, just a better all around policy then the piece of sh&t we had from BCBS. We both have pre existing conditions so we were pretty much prisoners of BCBS.

I have to laugh at the reports of people losing their policies. When you buy your own health insurance you lose your policy every F'n year. They change it or send you a letter they are not writing that policy any more and offer you a different one. Rates change, details change or they found a reason to drop you all together.

That is pretty scary not having any insurance. BCBS dropped my wife after years of being a member. Well we just had a few months to wait to get her on Obama care. As luck would have it she ended up in the hospital for 4 days during that time. I had to write a check for $38000. Anyone without health insurance by choice is nuts. For one thing they never get proper treatment when they need it and can end up really bad off.

I Looked into Obama Care, I have had insurance only once in 20 years, and it was only for a year as it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. I looked into Obama care, screw that, Ive seen lower deductibles for a terminally ill patient !! And the cost per month vs the amount of coverage was ridiculous. I didn't qualify for any subsidies. Soooo Im sailing along as always eating right and not going to the doctor.

I’ve been lucky enough to be employed the last 30 years for a fortune 500 company that has given me “free” family coverage. We have a $3000 deductible. My employer gives me $1500 a year in a medical account to help with that also.

No complaints until now. Mr. Government has decided that my “free” insurance is now “taxable” in 2014. If I had to buy it on the street, my plan is worth $900 per month. I just got a $10,800 a year “taxable raise!

I’m grateful I’m not paying the $900 but still it ticks me off the middle class has to be the ones to balance the Obama books.

PS: This goes for EVERYONE out there that is getting discounted insurance through their employer. You better change your withholding because we just got bent over again.

I don't believe you actually signed up and read the plans from what you say. When did you sign up and what were the actual numbers that looked like too much to you? For people who have never had insurance any amount looks like too much. They don't live in the real world and want everything for nothing. Do you own a home? Do you have insurance on it, fire liability and so on? The chances are nothing will ever happen to your home it will never burn down. The chances you will be sick at some point, maybe very sick is 100%.

Two years ago I had what I thought was a simple hernia surgery. When it was over the doctor at Cleveland Clinic where I go told me I was lucky, it was very bad. He explained to me how this and that could have happened because of the way this thing was and if it had not been fixed It was a very good chance I would have died. Without insurance it would have been easy to walk around with that hernia living with it not knowing I was a time bomb.

Just last year I had a pimple on my cheek that was bleeding. I went to the doctor and he sent me to the dermatologist. Sure enough skin cancer. It was an aggressive one as well and without my going so quickly to the doctor I would have possible had much of the side of my face removed and needed reconstructive surgery. As it is I just have a scar now and have to go back for annual check ups.
Oh, by the way, I have been a vegetarian and somewhat health nut for most of my life. The only books in my home library are health and pool. I am in excellent health in general and have not had a cold or flu in years. I actually never get sick. I have never smoked, drank or done a drugs in my life.

It doesn't really matter to me if you get insurance of even if you live or die as long as I don't have to pay for it when you get sick and you will get sick or have an accident that is a certainy. Or see you on her begging for money because you got sick and don't have insurance like pops up like every other week on this forum. Just some thoughts from someone who has Actually signed up for Obama care and read the plans and know the real costs from years buying my own insurance. You have no perspective at all since you never paid for health insurance and don't live in the real world of what things cost. Be honest, you just don't want to pay, you want health care for free or someone else to have to pay your bills when you get sick, that is the real bottom line isn't it.

As I understand it

Reporting Employer Provided Health Coverage in Form W-2

The Affordable Care Act requires employers to report the cost of coverage under an employer-sponsored group health plan on an employee’s Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, in Box 12, using Code DD. Many employers are eligible for transition relief for tax-year 2012 and beyond, until the IRS issues final guidance for this reporting requirement.

The amount reported does not affect tax liability, as the value of the employer excludible contribution to health coverage continues to be excludible from an employee's income, and it is not taxable. This reporting is for informational purposes only, to show employees the value of their health care benefits.

Medical...because I'm poor...

BTW. If you are legit with the State(business license..ect) you should qualify for a group policy(list your dependents as employees....because most likely they help in some way). If you know other cuemakers, there are multiple employer policies that cater to small businesses as well.

Well first off you don't know me, at all, we have never spoken nor have we met for dinner etc. So how the hell can you say anything as to what I do or don't do, know or don't know? Now listen closely buckwheat, I have owned a home and payed insurance on that f&*@g home and now my cheating ex-wife has it !! I have shopped insurance and I cant afford what's being offered. I have lifted weights heavy since I was 14, I have studied martial arts for 10 years and I eat healthy. Now if you want to speak to someone as to there character or what they have actually done, then grow a set pal and come call me a liar to my face, if you really think you should. Im not going to waste my time speaking to you on this subject with you. I did have health insurance at one time and it wasn't paying for much, if you read what I posted you would know that. I pay for myself. I don't ask for anything from anybody. nor do I want anyone to pay for me. Now come call me a liar to my face.......its ok ill wait.

I've bought my own health insurance for a family of 4 for over 10 years. I've been on the same plan from the same company for about 5 years now. By the way, it doesn't cancel each year. It does get renewed, and sometimes there are minor changes. Of course, there are price increases as well.

When the ACA rolled out, my insurance company notified me that my plan was not compliant with the new rules. I had a choice of keeping my current plan and expecting a penalty at the end of 2014, or switching to a new plan that met all the requirements of the ACA. The new plan was more than double, and the additional coverage was minimal or didn't apply to me and my family. I re-enrolled in my existing plan.

I have not been on the website to see what the exchange has to offer. We tried at first, but had to make a decision before we could actually get through. I guess we didn't actually have to make that decision as everything has been pushed back now. I guess I'm stupid for following the rules and doing things the right way.

I think it would be great if everyone had access to health care. I just don't think the price should have anything to do with a person's income, and without charging more to some so it can be cheaper for others, I just don't see how it can work. You can't get blood out of a turnip, and money doesn't grow on trees.

What were the rates you were quoted that were higher then if you had a terminal illness?

If you think he doesn't pay for his health care you are mistaken.

Compensation for an employee includes all pay and benefits. If a company chooses to use a portion of what a particular position will pay to provide health care, it's still money earned by that employee. If it wasn't, then they couldn't tax you on it. The fact that it hasn't been taxed in the past is because it was given an exemption to encourage more people to have health care.

Money is money. It is finite, not infinite.

Health care costs money. It cannot be free.

Yes I love my insurance but how am I NOT paying for it? Greater than 10% tax bracket for 30 years is how I’m paying for it. I must be of some value to my employer who is paying more taxes is how I’m paying for it. Yes I own my home, is how I’m paying for it.

We’re getting way off topic from the original question. Honestly I don’t know how anyone can make cues full time and afford anything these days.

Very sorry to hear about your recent set backs. We lost a son to cancer when he was 9. Without insurance I would not own my house today. He didn’t smoke or drink either.

Well, if you knew me, thats me being facetious. If you were terminally ill a company wouldn't cover you. I have found plans for a single male, single and lost my home this year, 70%/30% for most and per month ranged from $ 90 to $300 per month plus a deductible from 3,000 to as much as 10k. $30 + for a doctor visit and $50 for a specialist. Yes numbers varied but bottom line is until I pay off the debt my ex left me with and have the money for an attorney to force the sale of the house or get her to refinance as im still on the mortgage.....then maybe I can think about insurance, another house ohh and Not being married.
