MOSCONI CUP 2014 PRESS RELEASE (Bogus)

Gee, not one mention of the thread I created about Mark Wilson ---> Mark Wilson: BIlliard Coach.

Over the years, I have created a few word terminiology trends on this forum, and they have taken off on this forum thereafter. I sit back silently and enjoy the feeling of creativity when witnessing my verbal creations used by others. I don't need the limelight to take credit, however. It's my contribution to the pool world that will live on when I meet my maker. ;)

My greatest contribution, however, has not come forth yet. When it does, I will be content. :)

On different forms I used one of your word terminology creations- " Keyboard CowBoys". Every time I used that word I thought of you.

Some of the phrases or terminology that I have used is not something I originated as a rule, but some of them I started using on this forum, and then I noticed other people started picking up on it. This stems back to 2004 and forward:

pool enthusiast
multiple-identitied members
banned members posting
tournament trail
step up to the plate
pool aficionado
emotionless pool robot
sucker-punching computer-sniping monkey
pool purist

Those are just a few that come to mind at the time of this writing.

Aye Aye Captain

After listening to the Mark Wilson being interviewed on American Billiards Radio tonight are there any contenders who can match his credentials as a Mosconi Cup US Team Manager.
His demeanor and his values are all things that were totally missing at the last Mosconi Cup. He is knowledgeable and articulate. A de luxe role model who is commanding growing respect by the day.

sucker-punching computer-sniping monkey
.

Long time ago when you first used that phrase, I replied to your post saying Monkeys never Sucker-punch and they will let their target know that they are going to punch/scratch. When I was growing up I was exposed to Monkeys that were freely roaming in the streets.

i'll use Johan as an example

you can't have a Playing Captain.
1) it creates animosity within the team, because he double-dipped
2) no manager competes against his sales force; his job is to lead

Great idea Doug. Send this to Matchroom Sports. :)

Mark Wilson could be a great asset to the USA Mosconi Cup Team.

Providing that the team had a complete reversal of thinking as to what the team needs to succeed. A grudging or reluctant acceptance of Mark's presence as a non-playing team captain won't be the best thing for the team.

The entire Mosconi Cup Team must realize the need and input of a coach that specializes in the mental game. This is where the USA team lags behind the European team and even then success is not determined by the end result. No one can guarantee results if winning is the result they are measuring.

I have previously proferred Landon Shuffett's name to the management of the Mosconi Cup as a team member but they feel that all "youth" would crumple under the pressure of the Mosconi Cup. That is an opinion that I respectfully disagree with but I am not part of that management team. The Mosconi Cup will continue to be spectacular event and hopefully we will see changes such as the ones you mentioned in the future.

Like you I totally disagree that only youth buckle from pressure. It reaches out to seasoned players too. Even someone of the stature of Mika Immonen are susceptible to it. QED

But the USA are looking fortunate next year because the front runners for 2014 - Deuel, Van Boening, Dominguez, Shuff and Dechaine are no longer rookies. Under Mark Wilson these guys would find their confidence growing in leaps and bounds.
A spell on the road would hopefully be accompanied by an increase in their fanbase and marquee names won't be necessary. With a couple of youngsters in the squad to keep them looking over their shoulder the US Team is suddenly looking more serious contenders.

Rewards for Mosconi success will be higher next year and with the Roadshow in action then the financial incentive will be enough to help Mark to motivate these players.
Industry support for individual players could be a reasonably attainable way to put some pride back into your country. Supporters and fans could play their part. They could bring a couple of 'pool virgins' along to a roadshow venue and over half the crowd would be potential new fans. So come on America, get off your backsides and support something like this. .

One influential person ( who could influence Barry) from UK suggested that I should be the Captain of the Team USA. I am giggling while I am posting this since I don`t have the qualification.

OMG - but we would KILL with our new outfits!

figure of speech? or did he get paid twice?

A few years back a team of Justin Bergman - Lars Vardaman - Chuck Ralston - Joe Woolford - Andy Quinn (and oh yeah captained by me) beat a team of Karl Boyes - Darren Appleton - Mick Hill and two other English champions in the BCA Masters team event. I know not the same pressure as say a Mosconi Cup but it was the English players that wilted in the final match, not the Young Guns.
