Had a great time and a good Tournament......
This weekend is one of the most traditional tournaments that i have ever seen.
At the KC Club in Faribault, Minnesota.
Seco Veroni and Richard Arndt have kept this going for 33 years. They have actual albums that anyone can look through. it has pictures of all the past winners and many of the people that come to watch.
Saturday they have 9 ball race to 7 winner breaks.Sunday is 8 ball race to 5 winner breaks. It is played on valley bar tables with a red circle cue ball. And there is plenty of room to shoot around all of the tables.
There is a kitchen there with great food and it seems like the same people are there almost every year.
Don't worry about trying to get in this thing because it was full 2 months ago.
Each tourny pays $1000 for first and $750 for second and so forth.
Calcutta is always great also.
It happens the 11th and 12th of Jan and I just get goose bumps thinking about it.
Thanks Seco and Thanks Richard for keeping this great tournament for us players to go to for all these years.

As usual the competition was stiff. Felix Beardy and a friend that shoots pretty sporty came all the way from Canada.
Rory Hendrickson and a few others came from Fargo.
There were so many former National BCA and VNEA, APA, and ACS champions that it almost looked rediculous to think that you could win.
With a 101 temp and burning nose and throat I made a last minute decision to play Friday. Sat morning I almost just went back to bed and skip the 8 ball on Saturday but something about this tourny just made me get there.
Surprisingly I was shooting pretty good. I slept like crap with my nose and throat feeling like it was on fire.
Played Jamie Pluto and lost a real tough match hill hill on a real heart breaker.
Fought my way through the losers only to play Jamie again in the final match. Jamie played really well all day. He deserved to get where he was. This was a real tough tourny with no real easy matches as usual.
I lose hill hill again on another tough played match.
Jamie Pluto got $1000 for first and the calcutta was about $$1900
I got $700 for second and the calcutta was about $1200. I got half.
The second day I felt a little better. Fever was less and I got some sleep.
Hoping to get an easy draw my first match I ended up playing Felix Beardy. Nice Draw?
I was ahead 5-2 in a race to 7. Felix played a great safe. Wins that game and then makes 2 9 balls in a row on the break making it 5-5.
Got to hill hill and i finally pulled off the last game. Tricky out but never got into trouble.
My next match I almost ran out the set. Won fairly easy.
Then I had to play Mario Parrona. As far as I'm concerned this guy is probably the toughest player there on the bar box playing 9 ball.
I got on a roll and he never got to shoot much. I won 7-0.
Then I played Felix's buddy from Canada, I think his name was Matt. I was ahead of him 6-1 and the guy came back and got on the hill. Tough match. I pulled off the last game in a real tough safety dual.
Then came Jamie Plutta. I jumped out ahead and got some revenge from the 8 ball matched the day before. Got a couple of good rolls and that's all the help i needed. Jamie played well. I just ran a few racks with winner breaks.
Earlier i also played Rory hendrickson from Fargo. Like I said there were really no easy matches. Any one of these guys could have won the tourny.
He missed a few times and that was all the help I needed. 7-2
Rory didn't give up though. this guy is a fighter.
He played Jamie Plutta for 2nd and 3rd and blew Jamie away 7-0. Jamie hardly got to shoot and when he did he was kicking at stuff.
Well here we go. I'm in the hot seat and now i have to play one of the hottest players in the tourny. Rory Hendrickson.
I knew i had to play well or he would just control the game just like he did with jamie. The pressure was on.
I lost the flip and thought to myself. This might be the difference of this match.
Lucky for me Rory scratched in the upper right hand corner giving me ball in hand. I jumped out to the lead at 4-2 and never lost another game winning 7-2.
First got me $1000 and $950 for my half of the calcutta.
Rory got $700 and around 600 for his half of the calcutta.
Like i said before, 2 great tournys the way it was done in the old days. No handicap. Rack for your opponent in the 9 ball. Rack your own in the 8 ball. And winner breaks.
Great food and friendly people. The spectators that come know most of the players by name.
to win both of these tournaments is almost a rediculous thought. To come as close as I did this weekend to doing that is almost as rediculous.
I netted $3250 from both tournys. After entry fees, motel calcutta I came away with about $2600.
Pretty good weekend.
Winning isn't everything but it sure beats losing.
One man a van and the road......having a little fun again.............
Thanks Seco, Rich and all the other good people at the KC Club in Faribault, Minnesota for making these great tournys happen for the 33rd year in a row.
