All the threads talking about making more money in pool, sponsorship, etc. had me thinking back to the days I brought someone over and put them in.

I'd like to hear from anyone, but prefer to hear from

1. a player in all events,
2. a player and action person (same person)
3. a player WITH his stake horse both attending (action or not)
4. a spectator
5. an action person

Think about this. Please remember ALL your expenses.

Travel (air or car), Hotel, Food, Entries, Action, Admission to watch, and anything else.

Edited to add if you are playing in the Bigfoot or the Bank Ring game as those add considerable expense.

Too many variables....
Figure 10 nights in the hotel at $110/night -- is that a shared room?
Food costs between $10 and $60/day depending on what you want to spend.
Entry is about $200 for each of the standard 3 events if you do the buy-backs.
Add entries to other events, possibly including the one pocket and/or 14.1 shoot-outs and minis.
Airfare can be from 0 (local or frequent flyer points) to a few thousand.
You may want to have a car if you don't want to be trapped at the hotel. Figure $400 total.

For me as a spectator it would be about $2300, not counting the value of vacation days at work.

Well I live 2 hours away and usually go friday night and spend the night at a hotel about 20 mins away. Cost about 50 in fuel, 60 in food, 20 to get my armband, and split the hotel for 50 my share. So just shy of 100 a day.

Not bad

Going for last 4 days of 9 ball

Greyhound round trip 185
3 nights in hotel split 3 ways 200
Tournament 160
Buyback 80 right??

625 plus food isnt to bad. Its just too great an event to be missed.

The money I can win matching up and playing blackjack...should make 600 look like small potatoes. BTW I am #5, starving for action here.

Bob,

Thank you very much for your post.
Not meant to have too many variables, but there are just a lot of different scenarios which come up like stakehorse being present, action (which I can't expect to be counted in the total, unless you know that you have a match with ABC for $$$ and you could lose or win that)

You can figure a shared room if you want, you can figure a 4 way shared room.
Although 10-60 is a bit low on the food end. Even if you skip breakfast, $10 is hard with the drinks being so expensive and really you can't rely on hotdogs all the time. You could bring some of your own food though if you wanted to eat in your room.

Looking at the numbers it would be the following to have a shot at winning cash in everything.

$1200 10 nights at 99.00 per night plus tax (figured 200 in taxes is about right)
$700 for all 3 events Banks One pocket 9 ball with re-buys
$100 Straight pool challenge
$1000 (if you are allowed to play in 10 ball challenge) not a high percentage that just anyone can play

$100 total in mini tournaments (unsure of the entry fee this year)
$500 $25 a day x 2 people x 10 days food
$200 in gas to get to Venue (should be average for longer and shorter trips)

$3800 before you hit a ball for backer and player
-$1000 for 10 ball event as not very many people can play in it.

$2800 total

I feel like I'm missing some expenses here. I can't add casino gambling, because not everyone will do that. I can't add steak dinner, sushi, buffet, etc.

Please let me know what I forgot.

I don't think you forgot anything significant unless the backer will need tickets.

If you have a car you could stay at a near-by hotel/motel and save on that but it means you have to plan a travel schedule if you're with someone and you'll waste 40 minutes to an hour per day on travel. The cheapest option for food if you don't do the grocery thing is to get up in time for the breakfast buffet ($12?), fill up and then get a meatball sandwich for dinner. That's not best if you're trying to play.

I am generous...if I went on.my own it would be 489 ish with taxes and weekend rates.

I expect to win big at blackjack. Got 1700 last time. Nice thing about a casibo, they can handle all the action I want, they actually payout if I win and they dont even ***** if I win thousands. Very refreshibg conpared to pool players (no offense, I am one too.)

I'm getting there Tuesday night and checking out Sunday. My first two nights are comped because I'm a Total Rewards member that had an offer code. Thursday night is $70, Friday is $160, Saturday is $140, plus taxes, so you're looking at about $440 for the hotel

Playing in 9-ball is $160 plus a $100 rebuy.

I'll use 2 tanks of gas at $50 each for the trip.

Meals should be around $40 per day, so that's $200 total.

I'm looking at $1000 before I hit a ball. I've got a game lined up for Tuesday night where we're freezing up $1000, so I'll either be stuck for 2 dimes or I'll be even by Wednesday morning.

Good rolls. to you...that sounds like a solid plan. The only way to get anywhere is to press

THANK YOU for your story, that is exactly what I'm looking for.

Please, if you read this and have been to the DCC, I did also ask for spectators.

Thanks again.

I am curious why is someone like you with location in Reutov, Russia a distance of 5500 miles from DCC asking this question?

That's where I'm originally from, and go to frequently, but I also have a place in the States.

We took a player from here to the DCC previously.

It is not cheap, but we go every year. Wouldn't miss it unless something dire happened.

Cmon Double A, and others.

Give us a general idea of what it's costing to get a shot at the prize money.

The tournament is made up of mostly non professional players, we are the majority.
Maybe someone has been wanting to go and didn't have a clue to the total of finances.

Still looking for more stories. Lots of people down there now, post some things from the current trip. Food cost more than expected. The drive was more expensive. Didn't expect to not place in any of the mini tourneys and that hurt your roll.

Ok, now people have come and gone from DCC, tell us all your approximate expenses and lets hope that you made a profit.

I understand, but we still have a lot of people who have come just for one event, or who have been there spectating and have an idea.

What is really interesting is that some of these guys play one side match for 2k or so, and win so anything after that is total profit.

Do you quit gambling if you win that one set, and concentrate on the tournament, or go for the gusto and play more.

The 9-Ball is just getting started. It's far from over yet.

I go for the action first weekend only:

Fuel to and from: $100-200
Room: Free-$240
Entry fee: $0, I do not play in event
Entry fees: $24
Gambling: $550 cost to $3,400 profit

Above are my results from my last 7 years of going. I have come home without extra money only once. That year I believe I was out about $665. Every other year I came home with a profit of at least $300 and a couple thousand more than once.
