I prefer ACS leagues. The money all goes back to the players, there is only a $10 yearly membership fee that goes to ACS, that's it, that's their cut. ACS has state and national events.. and ANYONE can play, you don't have to qualify.. get a team, jump on a plane, and compete with folks all over the country
I"ve played leagues all over the place, and it's impossible to "sandbag" and still have your team win. yeah, you can have some guy on a team, and he can tank it all session because he does not care if you win or lose, but wants a lower HC to play at state, national or some local tourneys...
but even then, he can tank to play at national or state to be in the "standard" division rather than the "open" division. The standard division is akin to about players at the apa 4 level. Thus, there is also not much money awarded, and the ACS players are playing for the "trophy" and personal pride.
So, if some guy wants to pay $10 or so a week, for months, just to win a few hundo at state, god bless him. Cause once you "cash" in the standard division, you are TOAST, you have to move up to the open division.
Also, I just do not prefer the "match" format of the apa and other leagues, where you must sit for an hour or sometimes several hours to play your "match". I like where I get to play every player on the other team once or twice (depends if 3 man or 5 man team) and you play a game every 10 to 15 minutes, and boom it's over. Maybe last 2 to 2 1/2 hours. I also don't like the rules... kinda silly imho as to think any player can't handle playing by 'standard" rules....most apa players would have no problem eliminating slop or open table after break...
So, I play ACS, twice a week. Once you try it, you might find yourself asking why you ever played anything else
