i got a question for all you apa bashers

Two other points -
APA tries to exterminate all other leagues by immediately killing the membership of anyone asociated with starting other leagues
APA REQUIRES you to play the proceeding session if you qualified for regionals or your city or tricup, whch coincidentally seem to make you have to re-up your annual membership......so yes, in a way.. you do get pistol whipped Matt

The part in bold is absolutely not true. The guy who started NAPA in my area still plays APA and didn't have any problem with the local APA operator.

Your local LO may have done something but that doesn't make it the rule.

1st let me say this.... there is no such thing as a perfect league.

with that said why do all you guys expect a higher level of perfection from apa than bcapl "or any other league "?

You are right, that's why they all suck...

With all the APA whining that goes on you would think these people are being forced to play in the league. Do you get pistol whipped if you don't join?

I quit league 2 years ago because of all the bullshit involved.

I jsut recently joined masters again and only played two weeks so far and was already hit with player and team drama... as of right now im about 70 percent sure I'm not playing next session either.

Pool without league is just so much more fun.

The Texas Express rules have been around for 30+ years and APA hasnt. That is my only complaint. I know I am beating a dead horse but, hey, I am a nine ball player. You probably are too if you are also a 9 in 9 ball.

I am not a gambler but here in Austin, most of your APA players arent the gamblers so if you told them to post you would get a blank stare.

Actually, I'm an 8b player! My 9b game is all over the place, but my 8b game is pretty steady. Not sure why they made me a 9.. I could definitely use a spot. :(

I started out as a bar player(approx. 3 or 4) in APA and learned through that. I saw and dealt with a lot of the same bull that "better" players like to pass down onto them. My friends are mostly in the APA 3-6 range and that's fine because the game isn't life and death to everybody, for many people it's just something fun to do here and there. When I hear people talking smack at BCA, I just ask them if they want to gamble with an APA player. Rocking the APA shirt to BCA nights is what I do.. if I had a BCA shirt, I'd sport that to APA. I'm a jackass like that. There are a few here that can vouch for me. I may be bad, but I'm not horrible.

same here. my napa lo plays on my apa team. he also play apa masters.

we have quite a few people who play both leagues .

Banks....

So you are a 9 in 9 ball and I am a 7....league race for $100 :D ?

Between this and the thread where you crushed a SL4 in bank pool for 100 big large ones, you are establishing yourself as the biggest nit I have ever seen on AZ.

lol...

A...I'm slightly kidding
B...as for the other thread I like free monies from loud mouths that think they have the nuts, don't you?
C....check the action thread area....I lose enough there and am not even remotely close to a nit on my lines

/discussion!

A.... understandable, because I was wondering if you guys were going to just start driving toward each other until you met somewhere in the middle and hoped there was a Valley nearby.

B.... as much as I like taking down someone like that, I would also offer them a more fair game to get their money back rather then just the same game that you crushed them in while laying down... thats not giving them a chance to get their money back. Could have at least played him in the game he wanted where you were still a massive favorite and playing with his money.

C.... "I lose enough..." There isn't a doubt in my mind.

A lot of complainers / haters / bashers just don't get it. They lack perspective.
They see things only from one point of view - that of a pretty good pool player looking
to get better, go to vegas, maybe win a few bucks.

They ignore the perspective of the casual amateur, or the league operator trying to make a living,
or the large corporation (which has plenty of competition) that must grow, stay profitable, or die.

Everything that we see people cry about... the handicapping, the 23 rule,
the decision to play with slop, allow golden breaks, remove pushout, ban jump cues...
all of that stuff was carefully thought out by some very smart businessmen who understand pool.
It's all done with one major goal: to be amateur friendly.

That's why the APA is probably 5x more successful than its nearest competitor.
But some good players don't care whether it's a success, or growing, or making a profit,
or if it makes bad players feel good about themselves.

All they care about is "This is bullshit, I lost to a guy who doesn't even know how to hold
the stick, because of their retarded no-pushout rule, and this bullshit handicap.
Screw this, I'm done with APA."

It's a blow to their ego to play in a league where being a better shooter
and practicing more, doesn't necessarily give them any advantage (or respect)
over some scrub who plays once a week half-drunk.

So they quit, maybe find a different league, and they go around calling the APA a "noob league",
because it makes them feel like pros to say "Screw that kiddie shit, I'm playing in the big boy league now."
It's the same mindset that makes people bash 8-ball even though they can't get out of a rack of 9-ball either.

I hear ya...as for B. I could get into more about this but not wanting to derail the thread. There is a method behind the madness...ok /derail sorry guys, back to whining about a league you aren't forced to play in lol

Hey, what's wrong with playing half-drunk?

I'm the worst player on my APA masters team. If anybody in the area wants to try some, I'm sure I could hook them up with a teammate.

OPINION: In my opinion, they structured the APA so the average joe pool player can compete with better more dedicated players. In my opinion, it is the more dedicated players that are trying to take an advantage of the system, for ego and/or prizes. I mean, what you are playing for is bragging rights and to win. So what do you do win? You flop. Just like profession football/basketball/soccer players. They don't have to do it, but it certainly helps the cause.

I am not a huge fan of the APA system. I hate sandbagging and everything else that comes with it. But it's not new. That is like going into a money game and negotiating spots. No difference.

The APA though does present a more clean image, which attracts more people, which keeps pool halls open. That's all I care about in the end.

For my APA brethren, you guys need to let this go. I'm as guilty of defending the APA as any of you, but we're never gonna win this. The lot of these people can't be convinced that the APA isn't actually the work of the Devil and that some of us, for all of it's faults, we really enjoy league night in the APA. You'll never convince Nazis to accept all races as equal, the Pool Gestapo will forever deem the APA inferior. The BCA though reminds me sort of my Grand Ma, an old dried out leathery broad that will probably out live us all. The BCA was here before any of got here, it'll be here long after we're gone from this earthly plane.
New ideas are hard for most people to accept. The APA is a newer concept and it's not for everyone. Just let them BCAlone, and maybe they'll leave us APAlone too.

My thoughts: if they matter?!
I have been playing off and on for 18 years...competitively. I played my first APA night ever last week.
I started as a 4 in both 8 and 9 ball......said and done I will be a 6/7 in 8 ball and probably and 8/9 in 9 ball.....I knew that going in. That is why I joined. Not a lot of league besides APA in my area...and I figure having a high handicap playing lesser handicaps every week is going to do nothing but help my game....make me play harder, which is my overall goal.
Bottom line: If you don't like the rules, don't join! Just because a democrat is president doesn't mean you HAVE to play APA!!

I thought the same thing when I first started but I learned It doesn't help your game at your level. You will find that you can play weak ass safes and it's good enough and miss balls and not get punished for it. playing better players that can punish you for your mistakes is what will drive you to get better. I truly believe that this league is for new to mid level players. Some of those people are competitive and will work to get better some will be happy being a bad player because they don't care. 8's and 9's just make it tougher to field a team.

No league is perfect .. no handicap league is going to stop every sandbagger. I just find it funny when our LO'S with a straight face swear to you that it's impossible. lol

It's no blow to my ego to lose in apa. some guy makes it to 35 before I make it 75 big deal. Now if that guy beat me straight up I might be a little irritated with myself lol

The low opinion people have of the APA probably stems from the rules which limit the number of good players and encourage sandbagging.
