About 7 years ago I started playing again after health reasons kept me away from playing for about 4 years. After the worst stroke cleared 90% of my mussel memory for playing pool I bought every new book and DVD that came out, and most of the good old ones. I couldn’t believe anyone could forget how to play pool after doing it almost every day for 50 years. A lot of good people on AZB helped answer a lot of my questions.
After a few years I was still missing balls I would never miss before the stroke. I blamed it on the table conditions changing all the time, (table outside on screened patio in FL.) I blamed it on my eyes, my arthritis, the balls getting damp from the humidity, and on and on. Then I got an OB Classic for my Viking. I knew I’d have to learn to use center ball more and stay close to center for spin. I don’t know if it was the shaft change or just in my head, but I felt I had found the answer. When Cuetec came out with the R-360 and Shane was using one winning everything in sight, I bought one. Right away I started shooting a little better and seemed to have more CB control. I played for about 3 years with it. I ran over 100 balls in 14.1 on a BB with it, so it shot fine, as did the OB Classic.
Three days ago, just to try my old Viking with the original standard maple shaft for a bit I was shocked at how I could run racks with in an hour. I was spinning almost almost everything without even realizing it. I am back shooting like I use to. I have nothing against the LD shafts. I can see where they would be good if you started with them early, but after 50+ years playing with a standard shaft, this old dog can’t learn to shoot my best with them. My wife would be pissed if I put up a video of me running racks until the patio is presentable (she comes from the other side of the tracks LOL). But when I get it all nice for pictures I promise a video of me playing…shouldn’t take longer than 2-3 weeks if I can keep my ass of the table for awhile. Johnnyt
