What cues are the pros using these days?

It's an interesting thread and I am sure some inquiring minds do want to know (and others could care less and that is fine)

For the ones that do care, there is some good and accurate information already posted in this thread. I can also add that:

Joe Tucker plays with an OB shaft
Charlie Bryant plays with an OB shaft
Allison Fisher plays and breaks with OB Cues with OB shafts
Phil Burford Plays and breaks with OB Cues with OB shafts

Hope that helps. It will be fun to see the list grow but it will require some work to keep it current and accurate. If you email some cuemakers they may be able to let you know the names of certain players and the equipment that they use (if it's their product)

I miss being able to shoot and break with my playing cue. Can the OB Pro withstand the abuse of breaking?

Mine did not. Although I had mine cut down to 12.0 mm which took it well past warranty specs. Mine exploded after 3 really hard breaks. I have since started using OB classics at 12.5 mm. Haven't tried breaking with them since. Cost to much lol.

that being said I really love my OB's

I was told by the guys at ob that they can be broke with as the stock mm so I think if u got classic pro u would be ok

I know that Burford smashed an LD shaft into a million pieces while breaking at the former 150nOut in Mooresville, NC in the summer of 2012. I didn't see it, but I heard it from several people who saw it. I thought somebody said he was using a Predator though. I guess it's a matter of when OB started sponsoring him.

Thanks for make this thread :thumbup2:
Many Pro use Predator cue in past but now Deal with sponsor cue
Let me help I add some player i know

Corey Deuel: Wood Pecker Cue maybe with OB Shaft
Niels Feijen : Longoni Cue

Max Eberle uses pechauer cue with predator shaft.

He stopped at my house to beat me up one night and his shaft had points in its base. Is is possible that was a predator shaft?

Oscar Dominguez recently signed a sponsorship with Mezz and now uses a WX900 shaft

if i were to go back to a LD shaft id go with an OB. My buddy was a predator dealer so he was bias.. I've tried OB and they hit real nice. Although i've only hit the classic

That would be a Pechauer Crown shaft ... It's a 12 piece solid laminated LD shaft.

Great thread Dave. I find it very interesting to know what the pros play with. Can't imagine why anyone of us serious players wouldn't be curious. I have always been one to not pay very much attention to Cuetec products. Considered them just a banger's gimmick. Figured they were just sort or a joke being made of fiberglass and all. Don't even know if that is still the case. Shane playing the products definitely lends them some credibility which is obviously what they're paying him for.

Cues, Cues, Cues....

You could have 5 of the supposed "Same Model" cues, and everyone of them would hit differently. NO 2 TREES ARE ALIKE!!! I've had the chance to hit with multiple amounts of the same weight cue and model and everyone of them feels different.

Until you've had the chance to really play with a lot of different cues you will have no idea of the subtle differences between them. And Tips....And Ferrules... And Wraps...Oh MY!!! that's a whole other story. Not to mention joint type, butt diameters and balance points, shaft diameter, shaft tapers, there are just too many variables to take into account.

The main thing IMHO is to find a cue that you can stroke straight without it swinging back and forth like a banana. I had a Schon cue that I hated when it had linen on it. When I was pre-stroking for my shots I just couldn't get the cue to stroke straight. Mostly because linen slips around in your hand, unlike lacquered butts and leather and rubber grips (depending on how much you sweat while playing) I put a regular black smooth leather wrap on it and it is one of my favorite cues to shoot with. Even though it's a Schon I like it just as much as some of my other "Hi-End" cues that cost thousands!

And for those players who say they use linen because they use a "slip stroke"....LOL that's so funny. you may use a slip stroke on a few types of shots but you won't hit the side of a barn with a dirt clod using a slip stroke all of the time on a 9' or snooker table.

So even if you think you are using the same cue that one of the Pros is using....YOU ARE NOT!!!

I didn't think Allison would leave CueTec cues with their sponsorship money. Maybe Shane is all they need now. Allison is class all the way and she will be an asset to OB Cues.

I'd guess her sponsorship value went down due to the curtailed WPBA tour. Just not the same amount of exposure as in the past. No slam on AF, she's a great player, just the way it is.

Lambros

I know Rob Saez and Brett Stottlemyer use Lambros. Not sure if Brett is considered a full time pro but I know Saez is.
