John and Lou, the plain truth

TATE, I've got mad respect for you, but you have to hand it to them, they ponied up and played.... whether they could afford it or not is none of my concern. John needs to pump a few more cases (won't be hard) and I hear Lou had a backer. My opinion is if they gambled something they couldn't afford to lose, doom on them. I don't think it's the case here. John was wise enough to admit he sunk money into his business and refused to up the bet. That's putting ego aside and reinforces your point.

Same with OMGWTF and CubC, in reality...

Either way, it was enjoyable to watch IMO, and both made some great moves and horrific mistakes, but that's what amateurs do.

<-- wouldn't bet $10k

I disagree. It was almost a one game difference except for one play on John's part that pushed it 8-6 instead of 7-7....

Yea but OMGWTF and Cubc was hilarious to watch. He ran in. She ran over him then he quickly.left lol.

I agree with Tate, but I also just recently ordered a JB case. Who wouldn't want a case from the famous JB who lost $10000 in an internet-argument grudge match. :D

+1. I came across his name and signature in a thread (probably a flame war) and clicked the link and checked out his site... ended up buying a case that I am really happy with

This match happened because two guys shot off their mouths on the internet. Plain and simple. It is shameful behavior. A whole pack of people piled on too, which made it worse. There is nothing here to be proud of, nothing noble. Does either guy really seem like they can afford to gamble 10K or 20K on a pool match? Not to me they don't.

Furthermore, any of you so-called gamblers who respect someone for gambling their hard earned money, their family's savings or children's potential college fund on a pool game needs to seriously examine their values. There is a culture among gamblers that talks of respect for what is basically reckless, self-destructive behavior. Do we praise someone who falls down stinking drunk every night? Yet we praise someone who gambles large?

I gamble for entertainment, just enough to sweat. No harm in that. We are fathers, workers, employers, husbands. At some point, as mature men, we need to accept that our actions affect a lot of people who depend on us and act responsibly We shouldn't let our ego's dictate our actions. I watched the match and enjoyed it. But let's not forget why this match really took place.

The plain truth is, it was pitiful.

I tried as nicely as I could to tell John he doesn't have the game to be gambling for that kind of money but he rejected my advice. Wasn't trying to lecture him or sound like a know it all, just trying to help him.

The guy lives in China with a per capita income of $2,000 a year but in the end it's his money.

There is an upside to this for the loser of the set that you might not have considered Tate.

Before 2 days ago I haven't been on AZBilliards for quite awhile. I have no idea what transpired between these two guys, but I'm guessing it was some severe "peacocking" that led up to "put your money where your mouth is" situation..

Long story short, I haven't been on here in awhile, and before this deal I have never even heard of "JBCases." I enjoyed the live stream and the entertainment. I think for marketing purposes he couldn't have asked for more name recognition / exposure for his company then this set. (win or loss).

I am in the market for a new case and will be ordering something very soon.. I hadn't even started to consider what I wanted, but now I'm not considering any other case mfg other then JBCases. Something to think about.

Ya then there's the ones who did not like his antics nor a Chinese made case

I agree! That money could have been better put towards his daughters college fund, wedding & etc! The economic loss and the repercussions of the loss HURT his family and in that sense it is a sad and painful lesson for JOHN!!!

As much as he screams about protection, the man failed to protect his most valuable asset and that is his FAMILY! He let his ego write a check that his A$$ can't cover and it is time to play catch up! Less time on the AZB forum and more time in the shop trying to recover and lick his wounds. I hope JBCASES learns from this and is a softer and kinder member of the forum. I hate to see the carnage he generates in various flame threads. Maybe this time he will let sleeping dogs lay! If not this may be the first of many Humiliating defeats on the field of green for large sums of money!

10,000 to one man may equate to 10 dollars to another. Without knowing his financial status, its hard to make the statements , " That money could have been better put towards his daughters college fund, wedding & etc! The economic loss and the repercussions of the loss HURT his family and in that sense it is a sad and painful lesson for JOHN!!!"

Just an fyi....

I'm a weird old guy...but damned if I could ever figure out how throwing your money away is considered "showing heart" by most in this forum.

Exactly any pr is good pr. Jb who makes a great case just got 10k worth of advertising and got his face known all over the net. Which would have cost well over 10k . Who really came out on top????????

I bought a Jb case afew years ago thing is a work of art:o

Who are you to judge? Maybe John Barton got more "value" out of gambling that money than just what happened the last 2 days. He traveled around the states taking lessons and playing in preparation, and he improved his game. Maybe it's all worth it to him. You know that saying: it's not about the destination, it's about the journey.

i understand your point!

But, do you understand mine???

How many people do you know that have college education, weddings & etc. funded for their small kids? It takes time to save typically for these things.

I am certain if you asked John he would say in hind sight he could have done a number of things with $10,000 today to put his family in a BETTER position. He could have bought stocks, Property & etc. Jbcases has a REAL opportunity loss associated with this bet that is unavoidable and real.

He could have bought in at the ground level of the next big thing with that money but now when the opportunity presents itself. He is left with regret cause he had the money if he had only avoided the bet. Things like this come back to haunt people. My dad's friend in New York had an opportunity to invest in Palmer video and took it. Palmer grew to be one of the biggest video rental companies and worth millions. He hung at the pool room with toby sweet in up state new york. Guys name was Vinnie Cassiopa spelling could be wrong? This kind of stuff happens and opportunities come and go! You have to be READY when they do!

Plus, the tone and wording of Tate's post would lead one to believe he has/had that information to make his original post and start this thread and course of discussion.

I normally don't chime in on these types of threads, but I couldn't help myself.

Who are we to dictate what two people do with their money? If either man wants to drain their bank accounts dry and spend all the money on gummy bears and whiskey, how does that affect anyone here?

Did either of them setup a college fund for you and use the money for this match? Did either of them tell you they'd pay your mortgage for a few months?

Do either of them owe anyone here a nickel?

Neither man committed a crime. Neither man's actions affected anyone here.

I understand that a ton of people here love to bash John for his antics and can't wait for an opportunity to jump all over him from their keyboard strongholds. This event played right into your hands.

If people are really this distraught because two people, not John and Lou, but two random people bet 10k each on a match, then perhaps said people should move away from the keyboard and find something constructive to do.

It was two grown men playing with money they had every right to spend. They didn't steal it. They didn't mug anyone to get it.

Get over it.

My contention is this wasn't started as a gambling match. I wouldn't criticize Shane for gambling with Orcullo, for example. My contention this was dumb big mouth internet talk that went too far.

10K on a pool game for amateurs to save face is just silly. I personally think the whole thing is despicable.

But I enjoyed watching it. Never saw so much jumping around. I hope they do it again.

It's called disposable income. Lou played on someone else's money, between the tax write off and sales gained through the exposure, it didn't lose squat for John. I am confident John's Daughter won't suffer one iota from this loss. It made John happy, that's what disposable income is for. I can't believe some of these comments.
