Alex Pagulayan going to UK to try pro snooker

Jam, was that Canadian that Keith played Frank Jonik by any chance?

The snooker player Keith played in California was Cliff Thorburn. He was a champion snooker player at the time. Probably happened in the late '70s or early '80s. It was before TCOM.

Keith played him 6-ball on a 5-by-10 snooker table. At that time, however, snooker players were shooting on 6-by-12 snooker tables with larger pockets than they do today.:)

Cliff was a world champ and one of the greatest ever, he also got around and knows his way around a pool table

"One thing is for sure; IF Alex can be competitive and IF he can rise in the rankings to make some TV appearances, he is going to make an absolute PILE of money! The audiences over there are going to absolutely love him and he'll make just a ton of cash off the table in appearances and exhibitions., to say nothing of what he can make from the tournaments. I think if you're a wise investor now would be a good time to buy some stock in some of the major London casinos ;)[/QUOTE

The fans will love him, and WorldSnooker will love him for bringing in a ton of new snooker fans from around the world.

Looks like if Alex can break into top 70 in the world of snooker, he can make a living,
and if he can break into the top 50 he'll make more money than he did as a top 10 pool player last year.

I always felt like his fundamentals looked a little snooker-y.
But that may not mean anything.

He seems to favor open bridge, straight back-and-forward motion without up/down or side-to-side hiccups...
a short backswing, and a bridge that isn't any longer than it has to be.
He is proficient with the bridge since he's tiny and must use it constantly.

Here's a good recent video of him on a big table.
I thought this particular shot was a good example of how he keeps the mechanics as simple as possible.

if I had to pick one pool player on the planet who could make the transition it would be Alex hands down, having said that, the odds are still stacked against

Crazy

So many negative post by a bunch if people who probably play terrible...he will do good ..it's not like he never played snooker

Gotta love people thinking American snooker tables are easier than the British ones, that's hilarious!

Here's a couple pictures of the snooker table at Hard Times. Good luck to any player on this board who even thinks he or she can run double digits on it...

Is that a regulation size snooker ball?

Yup, I took the picture. They play snooker for like $30 or $40 a point on this table too.

Here's another shot with the pink actually sitting on top of the jaws of the pocket. So yeah, they're pretty tight...

Wow, nice picture.

Depends on which regulation.
I expect it to be 2& 1/8.
A world regulation 2& 1/16 would make those pockets look like buckets.

That's what I was getting at, kind of. The ball just looks bigger than all the snooker balls I've seen, which in turn, makes the pockets look smaller.

Tough to tell from the pictures though.

Those pockets are as small as they look...
...I have played on a couple where with cue-ball in hand....
...you can't make the 7-ball off its own spot unless you bank it in the side.

Thanks for the clarification, the pockets definitely look tiny.

But does that actually mean American snooker tables are/aren't tougher than the ones in the UK? This is only one table, and maybe the pockets were made that way for action purposes.

Just speculating...

Hard Times (Big Bertha) is NOT A SNOOKER TABLE! It's a GOLF table. Set up for the larger pool ball. Period. With Pool Cloth. It's like comparing a Chinese 8-Ball or Russian Billiards table and calling them Pool Tables.

In short your example is flawed.
