Rare Footage of Rudolf Wanderone

There's a few of them up for sale on eBay. Nice little vintage pool collectible, IMO!

Man, the ball colors are similar to Bonus Ball. LOL

That was great, I have never seen it. An interesting thing is, there is no mention on who he is in the commercial. He could have just as well been any actor hired for the day. I like the product by the way. I wish they still sold it.

At the time, he was one of the more recognized celebrity pool players, even more so than Jeanette.

Great find.
There is alway chatter about Fats ability on the green felt.
But there is no doubt about his ability to market, promote, himself and the game
He had a TV show did commercials toured the country etc etc
He had the ability to keep the game front and center.
One of a kind.

Man I want one of those now. I had tons of nerf stuff when I was a kid so I can't believe I hadn't seen it before. Must have been out when I was pretty little.

Did you see the kindly smile on Fatty?

That's the Fats that wouldn't let a stray dog starve.

So if you got a set what would be the first thing you do? Make the pockets tighter? Buy a Simonis table cloth, Don't allow any jump shots? Just wondering.

I think when you bought one of those Nerf Pool sets, it came with a free Mr. Microphone and Chia Pet.

That's hilarious, I was just watching some Bonus Ball this morning. I want one btw.

I don't know, I think you are making an assumption. At the height of his fame, his name was a household word for sure (still is) and synonymous with pool. His face though, I doubt one in thousands would have known him by sight outside of the pool subculture. To be honest, how many people today outside of pool would have any idea who Jeanette Lee is by face or name.

Like todays NASCAR stars, we may recognize their names but few people could recognize them by sight. It just seemed odd they call him gramp's rather then Fats. He was around a lot at one time though. I saw him on "What's my line" and they didn't know him to see him but that must have been in the late 60's. I saw him on "Hee Haw" also.

He sure did. I saw him at a shopping mall once and they had a small ad in the local paper promoting him. I am not exaggerating. He must have drawn close to a 1000 people, it shut down the mall, people could not even shop. Who today could even come close to something like that in pool. The answer is certainly no one, now or ever in the future. I went to a number of exhibitions by Mosconi and maybe 50 people would show up. Fats was really something.
