well, i see cuemakers who don't take less than $2000 or years of waiting lists. they established themselves and will demand a high price for years to come. but who should we buy now cheap and relatively short waiting periods. in a few years they'll need 2, 3 or like searing 10 years to wait, and they're prices will be out of reach. so who's worth buying now???

There are a handful of cue makers in Texas that you might want to get a cue from. They all post here on the forum. Beautiful stuff is coming from Texas.

Gary Johnson from Flippin, Arkansas.

I'd put any of his latest work up against $2000-up cues any day. Not only for looks, but sheer playability. They hit absolutely great. Players and breakers.

There are no "cheap" cues worth investing in. Hype is hype, a fool and his money are easily departed.

Buy what you like playing with. If you are lucky, it might be worth a bit more in time - regardless though it will always be valuable to you if nobody else.

An example would be any Mark Bear fullsplice cue. I was fortunate enough to pick one up for 300 bucks six months ago. Mark's reputation as a fullsplice cue maker was well deserved. This particular build is no exception to how solid and well balanced his cues are. Unfortunately Mark had received his wings and the cues he had made are all that is left. IMO when compared to others with bigger "names", Mark is "underhyped" if all else - just do a search for any sale threads - nobody sells their Bears. If after 30 years my Bear is worth something significant, I wouldn't be suprised. If it's not worth much more than I had paid for it, I wouldn't be disappointed in the least - happy actually, that I didn't waste 3k on a dufferin.

Mark bear was quite well regarded here in the early/ mid 2000s. I am honored to have a beautifully fiery cocobolo/ steel jointed bear.

I'd have to go with the padawan, mr. Murray tucker.

I don't know if you ever saw his tapes, but I vaguely recall he would take one of his full splice cues and put it on blocks and stand on it. He would challenge other cue makers to do the same thing. He claimed that his full splice cues were much stronger than typical cues.

The Alex Alpert cues i have seen on here recently are top notch. I dont know much about his cues or even where he is from but his veneers and inlays are stunning
