Dc pool death- Kevin Barks

I can't place who Kevin is.

We lose another unsung pool hero. May he rest in peace.

He and Seattle Sam can play one-pocket in heaven.

Kevin will be missed! Guys like him are what make pool rooms worth going to.

For the money and when he was on his game in my opinion, Kevin Barks was at his best the tougher the competition, the more cash changing hands and the bigger the audience! The man had heart!

I talked to him a couple a weeks ago and while he didn't look good it's still hard to believe he's gone.

Are those services Wednesday?
Sorry, yes.

Services are today...99% sure. I can't make it or I'd be 100% on it.

Not sure you knew him, jam.

He was not one to play tourneys and didn't really travel too far from home often...no drivers licensee.

After my time, I guess, from when I used to frequent every single joint in the area. :grin-square:

I tried to find the obituary on Google but came up empty. Are you sure about the spelling of the last name?

He was around far longer than I, jam. A fixture of the westmont champion billiards, you were likely in the same room as he somewhere along the road. He wasn't a wall fly, that is for sure.

I tried to find a pic of him, none found though.

His name is actually spelled "Kevin Barkes" and there is a brief obituary and photo on legacy.com.

Thanks, Rick. Gosh, he was only 50.

I saw Kevin only a couple times the last couple years. I saw him at Shirlington Champions or whatever it was called when Billy Stephens was there. I just got done beating Mike Sigel in the 9 ball tourney and Aleer wanted to play me some straight pool race to 250 with a 50 point spot for 500 .Kevin had quite a few to drink and I hit Aleer with a 92 and a 113 back to back and Kevin made me laugh when he told me Bobby you make a lot of balls but if you think you can make 8 balls in 1 hole before me than I will play you some 1 pocket.

I was there that night, many good pool hijinx. They tried to close the room on you halfway through a $500 match and you had to call Billy at home. Bus Driver tried to get me to play for something, but gave up once I told him I couldn't bet him much because I knew who he was and knew I couldn't beat him.

Kevin was in fine form, working the whole room that night. You weren't the only one whose match featured a few intermissions to listen to Kevin jaw; Billy was playing McCreesh some 1 pocket on the table next to Perkins and I playing 10-ball, and Kevin was giving all 4 of us the stand-up routine.

That room was what a pool room should be that night.

You're welcome. And thank you for starting this thread. I saw Kevin in action almost every day at Eddie's this past year or so, and the courage he showed in dealing with his illness was nothing less than inspirational.

Did anyone get to either of the services, please?

I had the kiddos and didn't think they should go, though I really wish I could have.

I went to eddies - his twins, the x and a fair number of players were there. Steve , Shortie , Sammy, Dexter and more.

Kevin will be missed that's for sure!

Im sorry to hear this.I knew Kevin for exactly 30 years. I remember when his twins were born and his girlfriend/wife I believe her name was Juanita but not sure.
Kevin was taught 1 pocket by 1 of the greatest hustlers I ever met Sam Trivett AKA Seattle Sam or when Sam was on the golf course Seattle Slew.

I remember 100s of times at Westmont Champion billiards which was open 24 hours seeing kevin in action all the time. What a lot of people didn't know was Kevin played 3 cushion really well and I saw many times him beating the regular Asian players out of a lot of dough.
kevin lived his life how he wanted and the one thing I know is he loved his kids very much.

I share the same history, with one exception, he had me run to the money machine more often!! playing him 8-4 back in 1981 / 1982, for $2.00 at first, all of a sudden i am playing for $50 at midnight, and down $200 by 3:00 AM.. Oh he paid the time once.. great personality but love the pool hustle, last time i played him was about 3 months ago, one game even for $20, sorry Kevin, you did not get your revenge! RIP. other stories with House man at Westmont and many others, i will always love you Kevin we will miss you, i am sad we lost you.

Thanks BB for sharing, i was on vacation last two weeks, learned about him today.
