Your Thoughts On 60 Inch Cues

I recently ordered a 60 inch playing cue from a cue maker that I am very confident will make me a high quality cue. I am 6'1 and 58" cues always have seemed too short to me. I play on all the different size tables. I ordered my cue with 12.5 shafts and 19oz. total weight. I would like to hear from players that play with longer cues. Thanks in advance.

I've never tried one but I'd really like to one of these days. I'm 6' but have pretty long arms and I too often find 58" feeling a bit short...I often end up gripping the butt right near the end. I'd really like to try a 60" cue and also have one with an extended linen wrap that goes almost to the butt cap.

Hope you like it, I bet you will. I don't think I've heard from anyone who has gone to a 60" and not liked it.

I took a new/old ebony Dufferin house cue to a local cuemaker to make a 60" cue.
My intent was to have him make a 60" sneaky pete on steroids
I've had it for a while, haven't played with it yet, I'm afraid to, one of these days maybe><

60" 30/30
19.5 oz.
shafts-13.125mm
5/16-14 steel joint

I went to a 60" cue about four years ago (30/30 split) and have never looked back. I like 20 oz, myself. I'm 6'3", 58" cues always felt a tad short for me. I love the extra length, and the balance of a longer cue. I predict 60" will be the new industry standard in just a few short years. I have 12.75mm ferrules on all my shafts.

I ordered a 60" sneaky pete from a cue maker in Colorado in 1989. I am 6' 5". I used it for a week and then sold it to another tall guy. I don't remember why I did not like it.

I just ordered a 60 inch from Lambros. 31 inch butt and 29 inch shaft. Mike suggested staying with a normal shaft for better playability .

I have a couple and I like them a lot. 6' 3/4". They are different weights, one light and one heavy, but the balance point is in the same place. I can play equally well with either one and feel that I play better with them than I do with my shorter cues, although I've never done a scientific analysis.

Idk about better playability, but if you are used to a 29" shaft, then you will be fine. Making the switch from a 29" to a 30" shaft on a 29" butt was different, for sure, but they both play just as well. The only difference is, I prefer to use the 30" shaft now.

My current cue is 59" (30/29 split) with a 6" extension.
I have a 60" cue on order (30/30 split) with a 6" extension.

Only problem is some dive bars where there are tournaments have tables close together or a wall too close. A longer cue might not help in that environment.

I am 5' 8" and play with 57" cue. Most folks think you cant tell a difference but I assure you, you can.

So yes, it will make a difference and yes you will feel the difference..

Chris Bartrum, I think, plays with a 60" cue and he is about my height. The reason he got one is to lessen the need for a bridge and to help him reach shots, if I remember right.

On the other issue noted, 50/50 split, I have had cues with longer shafts than butts (Hagen), and several with butts longer than shafts (many). After they were put together, THAT, I couldn't tell a difference

I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

Me & John Parker of Auerbach Custom Cues came up with a way to develop the length of a Cue for the Player's actual physical dimensions. These are only suggestion, but I've had success using this method.

This works very well.

Lots of good feedback

Thanks to all for your comments. Its just my opinion, but this is what I log into AZ for, to find out what players think about the different aspects of pool. That butterfly splice Dufferin is a really nice looking cue, and Ken 4 Fun's comment was exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. The funny pics and jokes thread is one of my favorites too.

60" cue

I'm 6'3" and love the longer cues. I've even had 2 that are 61". I had a lomax 61" that I did not like and now I have a Klapp. I wasn't sure of it at first but the more I play, I like it a lot.

I'm even dabbling with a balance rite extension in addition to the 61" cue.

I'm trying to decide which builder but I want a 60" cue built with a 6" extension. I'll use the 60" for bar tables and longer for 9 and 10 foot tables.

As far as shaft length...My current setup has a 30.5" shaft. I shoot better with a little flex in the shaft. Don't know why but it seems to be working.

Good luck in your search.

I had Mike Webb make me a 60 inch cue about 15 years ago. I swear by the thing. I am 6'3" just more comfortable. Than being hunched over on a 58" cue

I am 5'5" and love playing with my 60" Mark Bear cue. It lets me stretch a bit more and shoot without the rest on more shots ... I gain about 1/2 diamond.

I'm not a fan of any cue longer than 58 inches. I grip not on the wrap of a cue but at the very end of the butt and use a fairly long bridge, 58 inch cues seem to fit perfect for me doing this.

I see numerous advantages though, I often find my self wanting just a bit more cue when leaning for some shots.

Wish I could find the right 60" cue. :) 20oz, even split, linen wrap, 5/16x14 ss joint (half-joint would be nice). Straight as an arrow with shafts 13mm or a hair over. Nice but not uber fancy.

Probably have to use it as a cane. :o

I had a 60 in cue for a while and it got to feeling awkward. A better idea is a standard length butt of 29 in and a long shaft of 31 inches.... it just feels better and doesn't add an appreciable amount of weight.......

I have made about 6 long shafts for local players and they love them..............
