Karen is a wonderful person, player and teacher.
Her teachings are rooted in rock solid fundamentals and IMHO, You be hard pressed to find a more fundamentally sound player anywhere.

She does'nt try to force or convert you into a traditional Snooker stance (unless you want to), she understands how to take players of all skill levels and identify problems quickly in stance , approach ,alignment and stroke.

Only thing i recommend is it may help you to be in a relatively quiet area cause her accent and soft spoken voice may cause you to go "huh?" a few times till you get tuned in.

and for a world champion HOFer ..her lesson rates cant be beat.

Agree with Tronpocket. Had 2 hour session with Karen today. First time to meet her. Great teacher, not pushy, analyzed my stance, grip, stroke. Highlighted the flaws and the whys and negatives. Basic things that I have been overlooking and/or unintentionally compensating for in my stroke. For intermediate players, bring her your concerns or questions...you won't be disappointed.

Yes

Karen is excellent in teaching fundamentals, patterns and position play. She can quickly find the flaws in your stance alignment and stroke. One of the first things she determines is eye dominance and gives you drills to insure your stance and alignment are correct. I highly recommend Karen as an instructor!!!

Well

rates are relative, hers are high relative to the top men

Not all Champion players are necessarily great instructors! Karen happens to be both. I would be interested to know which top men players who also are top instructors have better rates. Thanks for your response to the thread smashmouth... Look forward to your list of top men players and their rates for lessons!

I could see where she would be a very good teacher. I had a drink and a nice chat with here about 10 years ago at Planet 9 Ball in Tampa and heard her in the streaming booth many times. She's is very chatty and funny off the table...very nice person. She gives out a lot of tips freely from the booth. One on one for $100 is not bad at all IMO. Johnnyt

lmfao, easy there partner, pretty sure karen doesn't need you to speak for her, , lol, you need to recognize

hmmmmmmmmm, three from experience, Earl for one, Cliff Thornburn in my neck of the woods if you want some world class snooker instruction, Jim Rempe before that, ......also, CJ Wiley, a ton of fillipinos including Dennis, Ray Martin, the list goes on and on.......... you already know that though

I can vouch for Earl and Cliff and Jim as amazing instructors, if you want their rates contact them, if they think you're serious you'll get the rates better than hers
see ya

Glad you enjoyed your lesson

I have had a 2 lessons with Karen and they were fantastic. She was extremely pleasant, personable, and gave me fantastic points to work on, which were written down for me. Helped my game tremendously. Highly recommend!!!

100/hr for individual lessons is steep. Plus she doesnt have to pay taxes on it. Most blue collar working stiffs might be lucky to bring home 150-200/day after tax. Then ask him to blow it all on 2hrs of pool instructions is a bit hard to swallow.

But hey, its her time and she can ask for however much. I just would like to see some of these pro players give back to the pool community a little. I'm not asking for handouts, just something a bit more affordable.

Just my opinion...

Karen gives you drills to help correct the flaws in fundamentals and stroke which is a great help when you return home to practice. Glad you enjoyed the lessons!

In life, if you think something relatively unique is too expensive then you don't buy it. Private lessons with a pro cost too much? Do a group lesson ($70 for two hours) or take a lessons with many qualified non-pro instructors. Think that Mercedes costs too much? Buy a Ford.

Sunday

Monday is pretty much filled (one or two spots left). Rather than group lessons on Sunday you can also sign up for individual lessons on Sunday. The individual lessons seem to be far and away more popular with the folks that have signed up at this point.
