What are the odds of a vintage 20 or more year old Meucci being warped?

I am just curious what the odds would be of a really old Meucci cue being warped or not?

I am sure that most (if not all) have a little roll out (taper roll out) in the shafts, but what are the odds of the butts being warped (in the joint for example, that would cause a very bad wobble when rolled)?

Do they stay nice and straight if well cared for, or are most of them not very well cared for over the last 20 years (give or take a few years)?

How often would you take one (that you may have purchased used from a pawn shop, or online from a non reputable seller) to the pool hall, roll it on a table, and it was badly warped?

Thanks for any opinions about that (or your experience with old Meucci cues you owned in the past).

Also, which of the American made production cue brands have kept from warping (in your experience, and coming from you all that have owned everything many times over the years)?

Thanks

I have a Meucci HOF1, with original shaft, that I purchased in 1992. It still rolls perfect (butt and shaft separate and together).
Shoot safe.

:yikes:

Odds were 80/20 for the butt.

And it was rare to see a straight Meucci shaft.

Meucci cues are not warped, it's just the way they are made.

I don't think the brand has quite as much to do with warping as the treatment and storage of the cue. My old meucci has a straight but and the shaft has a wobble. The shaft could be straight but I won't know until I fix the ferrul which looks like it was compressed somehow.

yea hell in the late 80s through the 90s when our local pool hall got there shipment more were warped then not lol most got sent back.

I have an old orginal from maybe the 70.s,,my brother in law bought it new,,he passed away about a year ago and my sister gave it to me,It plays great, shaft staright, but the butt has a good size wobble in it,,looks like it has a lot of ivory in it,,but I dont know if its ivory or not,,i,m not a muccie fan but this is a very good loking cue and shoots good,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Does anyone know if there is any way to get the wobble out of it,,,think they could fix it sending it back to the comany??

I bought a Meucci in the late 80's (looks like an MO-7). The butt warped in the first 6 months after purchase. The butt was replaced with another of the same model. That cue butt is still straight today; the original shaft remains very good, but not perfect. I purchased a Meucci S/P in 1991 or '92. Both the butt and shaft are as straight today as they were when purchased.

From this limited experience, there are no guarantees for any particular cue. But Meucci cues from that era can be straight and play well. I never broke with either cue. Both ferrules are original and in good condition.

I think it is pretty common for the butt to be slightly warped, and damned likely for the shafts.

Folks will come on here and state how theirs is straight, but I have bought and sold over 200 of them over the years (yes, I am a dreaded flipper or at least was a flipper). I have made more money flipping Meuccis than any other. I used to buy them all the time for around $75-100 and sell them for $200 easy and fast.

Probably the best thing about them is the ease of buying and selling. It might be they are always pretty cheap and that provides more buyers, verses a $2000 + cue, that would have limited buyers.

I bought a brand new Meucci in about 1985.It played great.Soon the ferrule cracked which was quite common.I had it replaced. Then it warped like a banana. The cue was crap with in a year.
Great playing cues,miserable quality.
My 6 year old Lucasi is still as straight as the day I bought it.The only problem I have had with it was a loose weight bolt. That was a 2 minute fix.

I could see having to roll and check out a shipment of imported cheap cues, but Meucci should of had better quality control, especially back then.

2-Minutes is a long time, I could of tightened that Lucasi weight bolt in less than a minute><

Don't send it back to Meucci. You could be waiting over two years to get it back and that's if they don't lose it.

I'd send it to Scott Erwin. I doubt there is Ivory in your cue. Ivorine is the stuff in a Meucci.

the first minute was figuring out if it was a rattle in my head or cue

In the 80's they were pumping out 700 cues a week at their peak. There is no way they had the time to properly dry and turn that much wood. I believe that is why there is so much plastic in their cues.
You can find some straight old Meucci's but they are few and far between.

The odds of me finding an old Meucci that is straight are MUCH better
than me caring if an old Meucci is straight or not.

That's not a very good attitude, I've heard that Bob Meucci is very sensitive about criticism toward his cues

With that said, I'm putting the over / under on total number of Meucci's ever made at.....750,000
Total number of existing Meucci's straight together & apart..............................................000037

A friend got a deal on 24 Mueccis at the trade show one year....
....the shipment arrived with all the matching joint collars...but they
must've mixed the cues before shipping....NONE fit straight on the butts
they came with...which makes them low-end production.

At one time I had two dozen Josses and two dozen Falcons in stock....
...if you mixed up the shafts, no one would know...all centered and all
the same diameter.

I don't know the year my Meucci was made but I bought it used in the mid to late 80's if I recall. On the butt cap it is engraved "THE RIFLEMAN by meucci".

The cue is perfectly straight, butt & shaft.
