Guns and Cues, Show us your Piece

I've actually been thinking from switching from a handgun to a revolver, for the sheer fact that I like how wheel guns look. That's one magnificent firearm.

Revolvers are nice and fun to shoot. Some don't want them as a side arm due to the lack of fire power. Although I have speed loaders that work very quick. Can't say how quick I would be if someone was shooting back at me though so, it is nice to have like 15 rounds at your immediate disposal.

For the fun of shooting though I love a nice revolver. One of the two I show in my picture is a Colt Diamondback. That gun is really nice to shoot. I have let people shoot that gun who were not at all gun people and they were ready for a reload right away and wanted to keep shooting.

everytime i am in the gun shop, the Taurus polymer's always catches my eye... it just looks so cool and mean looking..

This is a western arms airsoft pistol. I picked it up on craigslist virtually untouched for pennies. Incredibly realistic replica.

This would make a nice edc.... maybe an ankle carry? Lol!

I'm kind of a novice about guns compared to you guys, but I always thought of a .357 Mag as a VERY powerful hand gun, an extremely deadly weapon. So your statement about a lack of fire power surprises me. Please explain this to me. Thanks

can't spray and pray with just six shots

The most powerful handguns in the world are revolvers. They don't hold many shots though and reloads are comparatively slow even with speed loaders unless a person practices regularly. The auto's carry three or four times the ammo sometimes and reloads are easier for those that don't practice, main thing is they rarely need to reload though.

I carried six shot and then five shot .357's back when. My biggest complaint was the cylinder for concealed carry. Might not seem like a big deal but when you have to get down on the ground and roll around now and then that cylinder gets awful old digging into you, especially your ribs. I found myself carrying a small semi-auto and I only carry those in single stack configuration, not high capacity. If I can't get the job done with five to seven rounds I don't really need to be in a shoot out anyway, better options.

Jay,

Firepower refers to the quantity of ammo, not how hard hitting the ammo is. I think that's where the confusion is coming in.

Looks like that might be a three position safety, if so that's cooking with gas!

I could be wrong...but I think it is a non-functioning three-position safety. It only functions in "fire" and "safe" modes. Seems like I read this on Spike's Tactical website once.

My next purchase is going to be a .17 bolt action rifle.

Probably a HMR, but maybe the HM2. Can you even get ammo?

I bought an AR with a three position safety years ago but it was a trick! An across the course rifle builder put in a set trigger that you moved the safety to the third position to lighten pull a couple pounds. Bottom end was OK, they butchered the barrel so Lilja rifle barrels solved the problem for me. Lilja was my go to solution for accuracy problems. I bought enough barrel blanks from them to get the volume discount.

That's really my only qualm with revolvers versus pistols--ammunition capacity. But then again, 70% of the time the only gun I have on me is a derringer anyways because I can't stand the feeling of being loaded down. I may be slightly OCD considering how strict I am about amount of things in my pockets, etc. but more to the point--I would probably be better off with a Sprindfield XDS or one of those Ruger LCs where they're unnoticably thin. Kimber SOLO looks nice too but I have a problem paying Kimber prices unless it's for a gun I customize myself. But a nice stainless snub-nose with a polished wooden handle sounds like the kind of gun I could see myself carrying someday. lol

A lot of the Compacts that people carry do not really have that much capacity. In higher caliber many give you 1 or 2 extra rounds over a revolver. It is hard to carry a full sized auto concealed with a large capacity clip. Unless you carry extra clips when you are empty you are done. Even if you had the ammo It is hard to reload a clip in the field. With a revolver all you need is a pocket full of ammo and you can keep shooting. I have a few of these.

You can also get speed strips and you can carry a load of ammo just in your pockets.

Of course this is all fantasy we are not going to get into gun fights, but hypothetically a revolver can be a very formidable a weapon. There is something about just laying down a spray of bullets though that appeals to people. You see it in the movies all the time but you also see it in real life. Sometimes in the real life cop cams that may catch a shoot out, even trained cops can look like they are just shooting in hopes of hitting something while hitting nothing at all. or fire 10 shots and one maybe finds it's mark.
That must be a sick feeling to use up all your shots in a flurry and you haven't hit a thing.

IWB holsters

While we are back on the gun subject again what about holsters. I have a few older holsters I have used for years. Recently I got an inexpensive Uncle Mike that is not bad, but just last night I ordered one of these

https://www.remoraholsterstore.com/

I have wanted one for a while. I don't know, we will have to see. The last thing you want is walking around Home Depot and your gun drops out on the floor. I read a lot of good reviews though so we will see.

Any holster reviews, especially any real life experience with the Remora IWB

.357 snubby, upside down under my left arm

I was wearing a .357 snubby(Ruger Speed Six) upside down under my left arm one night when I faced an angry mob of hundreds, no idea how many guns were in that crowd!

I don't think more shots would have made much difference and I was hoping the momentary shock of the noise and fire from that .357 snubby at 3AM would give me a second or two to get from the back of the bed to the driver's door of my wrecker. The truck was running and had a push bumper on it. I was just doing my job and valued my life higher than that of anyone in the mob between me and the highway. With the .357 hung upside down my hand and arm slid along flush against my body to get the gun out and it would be almost impossible to prevent me getting the gun out and in action.

That was in the days I was the pretty fellow pictured in my avatar and fortunately for all none of the people closest to me quite wanted to start the ball. I had plenty of time to think about what I was gonna do and I was ripping six shots of .357 gut high to kill or injure as many people as possible between me and the door of my wrecker, then hang it in granny gear and hammer down for the highway a hundred yards or so away if I made it in my wrecker. Was gonna be a bloodbath and I just might come out of it alive. Largest mob I faced running a wrecker but I had faced mobs of 20-80 a handful of times before and that was part of the reason the snubby hung under my arm. When I was just conducting my business I was definitely thinking about better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

Things were a little more mellow by the time I was in the wrecker business in the early eighties but the older wrecker operators had dozens of tales that made the pool road stories seem tame in comparison!

That might have been an old Bianchi holster, I can't remember now. Held the gun tight but you grabbed the gun in a shooting grip and it came out quicker than a snake striking. Fastest concealed carry I have ever seen and I liked that there was almost no way to block that draw, might be some better rigs now though. I tried to find this one a few years back and couldn't.
