How does a bumperless cue effect the weight & balance of the cue & also if a bumper is not needed on the end of a cue then what is the reason for it in the first place.

I was going to post a sarcastic reply but decided against it. The bumper is mostly there for protection for the end of the cue. Some probably say that it helps with deadening vibration but I personally think that's a load of crap.

If you don't think that the bumper dampens the hit or sound, pop yours out once and hit a few, huge difference in the hit/feel.
I don't think you would notice a balance difference by taking the bumper out, its very light, moving your back hand up and down the cue an inch would make more of a difference.

Now that I think about it you are right. The sound does have a noticeable difference with the cap off. The hit I don't think has too much of a difference though.

I would love to hear more opinions, I am following a bumperless cue

thanks,
Cuong.

i believe

brunswick sold bumpers at an extra cost, they were called " vibration dampeners ".

the bumpers i use on my cues weight about 6 grams and on or off they do not affect the balance or weight much.

i have played bumperless for about 10 years, but i do not get mad when i miss a shot and bang my cue on the floor.

you need the bumper because without it you would hurt the butt of your cue when you tap your cue on the floor as the univerally recognized form of applause in the pool world. i played with a cue that did not have a bumper and i played pretty well without one, but i recognized early on that i needed one for the aforementioned reason. it's your call though. good luck.

Love bumperless cues, the look is one thing - cleaner/cooler imo:).
The feel is a bit "sharper", the sound is a bit "higher".
Plays the same but increases the feel imo.

hmmmm, maybe a good comparison is a blade club compared to a more forgiving club, feel wise that is (golf).
