Mezz PUJ-7 rewrap with rayfish leather

Hi everyone,

I am showing a great piece of work from my friend's cue, which is a old/discontinued PUJ-7 cue.

He found a very nice piece of rayfish leather and asked a local cue maniac in Vietnam to do the wrapping. the wrapping was so good and the wrap looks seamless to the eyes.

THE WRAP MATCHES PERFECTLY WITH THE INLAYS ON THE CUE. and it feels awesome, the grip is very very good.

I hope you enjoy it. I will surely look for a cue that matches this wrap and install the wrap on it.

You can notice the biggest bead on the wrap, every rayfish has ONLY ONE big bead right in the center of the back

Thanks, Dan, my friend told me that this is the leather from a kind of sea rayfish, all the beads may not be easily seen if the fish is alive because it will be covered with a greasy layer, but after drying up and remove that layer, the leather should look like this

This babe used to be mine (with the original linen wrap)
i regret selling her right at the moment her current master showed that piece of ray wrap he brought back from a business trip. That said, we would never get a chance to amire its current look had i not sell the cue.
The beads on this wrap match perfectly with the inlays, there's no better wrap for this cue IMO, its a match made in heaven!!

My friend who owns this cue recently obtain 2 set of full rayfish leather, which may be sufficient for wrapping 3 cues. I will meet up with him for some pics on the leather and will post them here.

The grip is kind of rough, but feels very nice, best wrap I ever hold in my hand.

I've tried stingray wrap before and I think they're beautiful especially against ebony. The only problem is they are really heavy...they add so much weight to the cue. Have you measured the weight difference?

yes, it is heavy, I measured the weight and it adds 1.2oz to the butt, compared to the original linen wrap. cue comes at 20.2 in total

weight aside, the stingray is very thick also, so it's hard to deal with, processing it before installing is very important. some would choose to carve off the wood at handle, some carve off the inside of the stingray, some install it, then run on a lathe to get a smooth and even feel.

here is another stingray cue, on ebony. this cue is my mentor's. cue came in at 21.5 (20 without wrap), too heavy so he had to take it off

Yup these wraps are beautiful. There's a guy here in China who does it really well and polished all the bones so much so that they glisten like pearls. But it's just so heavy and thick. It really adds quite some girth to the handle.
Nonetheless if you can get pass the weight and girth this is a gorgeous wrap option.

totally agree Jive, my friend who owns the Mezz got on with the weight, and he is not putting the cue down. not only beautiful, it grips very well also.

yes, the cue was too plain to show off . it was made originally for Justin (TAR), then passed a few hands to my mentor's. it originally had a linen wrap and is among the best hitting sugartrees I have ever tried. point work is unequaled also.
