USA vs Philippines

Corey and Mike leading 11-7 and they are at the table. Team Pinoy was once up 6-2, but Team 'Murica is on a roll.

Edit: It's now 12-7.
 
I believe the final score was Deuel/Dechaine 21 Efren/Busta 14.

It was fun to watch.
 
I watched some of it. The Ko/SVB was only $1000 to the winner, so this match was probably for about the same. Put 5k a man to the winners and see who wins then. :smile: Johnnyt
 
That's strong shooting by Mike and corey. Glad nobody on my end wanted to take team USA :)

My money would be on Deuel/Dechaine now matter how much money was at stake.

Yes, especially considering how old Bustamante and Efren are. Bustie can still play great, but Efren seems to fade the longer a match goes.

Er, yeah. Why would the Americans ever get there playing basically the best doubles duo of all-time? Nothing's really an exhibition if the winner gets money -- I'm sure all of them would love an extra $500-1000. Plus I've never really heard of Mike playing 8-ball.
 
I watched the entire thing. Effren/Busty played bad. Corey and Mike played pretty well; their patterns were weird at times but they showed they could pocket the balls and get shape with the best of them.

The constant harping that exhibition matches does not matter is ridiculous. At their level they would play to win for pride, reputation. Sure having big money in it may make a difference but IMHO not by much.

Efren and Buste know each others game as well as their own game. Which is critical in scotch doubles- you have to play as one. They also won World Cup of Pool doubles against strong field so their almost thrashing by Deuel/Dechaine is a shock
But then just saw that this is 8 ball. If it is 9 ball or 10 ball, IMHO Efren/Buste should be favorites:smile:
 
Also, it seemed to me that Mike was really crashing the balls on the break last night often making 2 or 3 and leaving very few to no clusters. That helped Mike and Corey string a lot of racks to come back from a deficit in the early part of the match and build a lead through the midway point.

I don't agree with that last part about 9 or 10 ball, 8-ball lends towards more creativity which Efren has more of than almost anyone. Unfortunately for them, one of the other top creative players is Cory. For rotation games, Dechiane is one of the top around. It's a pretty even match no matter which game. The only thing you can go by to pick a favorite is the fact that both Bustamante and Efren have had years more of experience and seasoning in top world tournaments, which does not count for too much in this type of format.

Ok so if technically if they are even whether it is 8 ,9 or 10b then it is down to chemistry, rapport/telepathic communication which is key in scotch doubles. And Efren/Buste have tonnes of that -they are like bros who know each other's game inside out. And Deuel /Dechaine have probably never played as doubles before this.And they did lose by quite a lot- 7 racks out of 21 that is 33%. That is like losing by 17 racks in a race to 50
