bodart, crabapple wood

If you are talking about Osage Orange when you refer to Bodart then there are cues people have made posted on here. Some people call it Bodock too.

Yes, thats what I am refering to. I was reading about it, on Wikipedia and it sounds like something I may be interested in having made. Dont remember seeing any cues made from this wood.

Hedge apple/bodark/bois' d ark/osage

Hard stuff that starts off brilliant yellow & eventually darkens to a mahogany red/brown. Most of what is used in cues comes from Argentina, not the USA. It's difficult to find it in the USA because it's rarely cut & milled for commercial use. Not an uncommon tree, just uncommonly cut for lumber.

I saw a Davis/Prince cue at Tunica a few years back. It really stood out with the bois'dark.

Finding bois'dark in grapvine should not be a problem. Just check out any construction sight and look for bright yellow logs. Or go to Woodcrafters in Plano and pick up some Osage Orange.

Yeah it usually gets cut for fence posts.
I bought a bunch of Osage fence post logs when I lived in Missouri and had some local horse and buggy driving guys kiln dry them and cut them into turning squares for me. A lot of it cracked in the kiln, but we got some good wood out of it. They would cut squares from logs cheap enough that it was not worth messing with back then.

osage

Osage is the preferred wood to make traditional bows. I have one made of osage. Very powerful. Hard wood and sometimes hard to work. I love it though.

osage orange

i live near osage mo, and this wood is easy to find in this area. couple years back a buddy cut down a tree in his yard.
i ask for some of the wood to build a cue. he is not a builder, but he brought me a piece of wood, a branch about 2 inches thick, and 35 inches long. i did not laugh but said thanks.

this is about 3 months later
