World Cup of Pool 2014(Portsmouth, UK) 23-28Sep (9ball Scotch Doubles) Winner $60K

Like watching paint dry, this match.

Yep, no doubt 4 of the best players on the planet but also 4 of the most boring methodical players on the planet to watch. Many of the Euros are like that with rare exceptions like Appleton who plays with a lot of emotion and Mika who has a tremendously fluid well paced game that makes pool look easy.

As "robotic" as the Chinese and Taiwanese players are I don't find them nearly as boring to watch as the top Euros. I don't know what it is about these 4 but FFS.... it is more interesting pool listening to it in the background and writing posts on AZBilliards... that might be a problem for this sport...

Ted Lerner is praising the shot clock...saying some players end up picking lint off the table. I can't imagine who he's speaking about...lol

Karl and Earl had a verbal back-and-forth at the Mosconi Cup. It will be interesting to see how they interact on this stage. :p

Is it just me, or is Ted Lerner saying balls "cannon" off each other vs. "carom" off each other...

I'm going to start dinner now, so I don't have any interruptions when Earl and Shane get on.

Notice how they were practicing together like a team? They also did this in Vegas, alone, at the Mosconi Cup. They worked together as a team, which is how it supposed to work. The two of them complement each other. I'm feeling good about Team USA right now. :cool:

Cannon is correct in UK...snooker
They also use screw back instead of draw.

Chalk is still chalk thankfully.

I'm normally not surprised by the UK terminology for billiards, but am in this instance. Learn something new every day. Screw back, screw are familiar...just never heard them use the term cannon. I guess I wouldn't have thought twice if I had heard the Brit using that term, but sounded weird coming out of Ted Lerner's mouth.

Thorsten finally abandoned the cut break and just hit them square there. It was dry, but I'm surprised it took this long to switch.

Interesting how Nick put his fist on the table between the side rail and the cueball, to make sure he had the correct distance, before he broke the balls.

That was a hell of a one long-rail bank on the 2-ball, off the 9, in the corner pocket by Niels. :smile:

He played it so if he hits the right side of the 9, the 9 might go and if he hit the
left side as he did the 2 ball would go. I don't think he went all out for the 2 ball on that shot.

Either way, it was a good safety, I think, they played. I don't think the Germans saw it.

I can't wait for Earl and Shane's match. :happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance:
