Why would someone NOT want an LD shaft???

its in your mind

IF you think you will play better with a ld shaft, then you WILL play better with a ld shaft.

im like a lot of people i will try most things that are made to improve my play, but i still go back to an old dense straight grain maple shaft.

after 65 years of playing, i will stick with the basics. !!!!!!!

I know lots of folks that use them and wouldn't use anything else. I also know a couple of guys that use a Predator butt with a maple shaft, go figure.

I liken it to all the hype in golf about getting the latest and greatest driver that hits it farther. If your swing sucks, and you fundamentals are bad, you are just farther out in the woods, or farther out in the pond.

I tried one, and just didn't see what all the hype was about. I guess my comment is if I play good with a maple shaft, why would I switch?

Try jumping the edge of a ball in a no jump cue tournament

Just change the shaft to a traditional shaft......

That being said I have never been happier playing pool -or played better- than when after years of chasing after those LD shafts I went back to traditional shafts.
Ain't nuttn like it.
All you gotta do is compensate for the spin, how hard is that?
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, works better on traditional shafts.

If the classic players (and many current pros) were able to run out one rack after another that's good enough for me, no way I could out play them anyway.
LD or not.

I play with a Jacoby hybrid shaft playing 9 ball or 8 ball. Karen Corr plays with the same shaft. She plays very well with it. i do prefer a plain maple shaft for playing bank pool, i tend to over cut the thin cut banks.

Er, I see a bunch of mixed opinions. I've had the same $100 Fury cue with the standard Fury shaft since I started playing and ... I'd like to think I can play solid at times. I've hit with Scruggs/Gilbert's/several others and even with LD shafts, it's just not the same. It throws every aspect of aiming off for me and you have to adjust.

Playing with a regular shaft is no different than an LD, once you get used to aiming. You miss because you messed up yourself, not because the cue...that's the simple thing.

Lol at your post !!!!! You think you know how to apply sidespin ???? Do you know how to use proper footwork for inside and outside??? Do you know that there are different feet positions for inside and other for outside ??? Do you know where to place your bridge and cue tip on the cueball and pivot from there to apply spin??? Do you know how footwork changes as distance increases??? Do you know how these alignments change with speed ????? Guess you know nothing about all the above. But you think you know a lot about the game. Like lots of others in this forum.......

Heh you sound mad. To be honest you don't know my personal accolades but I can assure you I know how to play pool.

post of the year

I used one for a while and liked it. Then I got more accustomed to standard shafts(and house cues). Tried to go back and just couldn't. Sometimes it even looks like I know what I'm doing, other times I just blame it on the cue.

It's a bit like asking: why don't everyone play with a 19oz cue?
Most people play with a cue close to 19oz, but there is also quite a few players that play with lighter or heavier cues, it comes down to prefrence.

fun

I play for fun now and it can be more fun to step into a place, grab a cue off the wall, and play. My case contains two playing cues and half a cue shop it seems . Nice to go back to the simple things sometimes.

Yes, I am mad !!!! But I don't play 2D Pool and I Do know some things about applying sidespin properly. I am not at the mercy of cue ball squirt - deflection or whatever. And
I also don't "feel" the shot or "imagine". I know how to place my feet, my cue and my eyes. Do you know any of these ? Do you know what you don't know ?????

Play well. And don't miss your contact points, vision center, straight stroke, etc....

I own or have owned a z1, z2, 314, 314-2, ob1, ob2 and edge hybrid. Currently I am shooting with solid maple shaft made by jack madden. I choose to shoot with this because I like the hit of this shaft/cue butt combo. I don't mind having to make small adjustments when applying side spin. To me this outweighs the advantage of the LD shafts.

You absolutely do not need to adjust your feet to properly apply side spin.

Yes you do. Otherwise you just aim to miss the shot. I don't aim to miss the shot, I aim to make the shot. Other guys aim to miss a little with their low deflection shaft, and aim to miss more when they play with a normal shaft. This is just guessing. Not a systematic approach. You can't play every shot with the same stance and same footwork. It will not work with every stroke you put on the cue ball and at every speed. I will not try to convince any body here. It is just my opinion. I just work hard on my game and I always do my best to keep the guesswork and adjustments out of it. I want to be able to explain what I do and do it with high level of awereness.

Hey Naji it's against the rules to have multiple profiles.

you're so 2014!

I think I need pool shoes! Low deflection shoes. Kamui flip-flops.

Man, you are so 2014! Everybody else is already 2015, a few 2016. The Kamui can't hold a candle to the semi-synthetic sole with natural cork inserts and genuine catgut thongs. A little newt feather or ostrich fur for bling, then you are talking a decent pair of pool flip-flops! For ladies the heelless unstilleto with the ten inch cork peep toe is the thing. Pretty sure Jeanette Lee is sponsored by Lou Bottoms for 2015.

So tell me sir. What is your speed? What credentials do you have to back up your claims about footwork making a difference on applying spin? I agree that footwork changes based on the shot but you are off base when drawing a correlation between footwork and side spin.

I am curious what makes you think you are better than others here. What major tournaments/accolades do you have under your belt or are you basing your knowledge on a career of losses?
