I was waiting for the result of the US Open to create this thread because I now have my four names.

Mount Rushmore of Pool:

Willie Mosconi
Efren Reyes
Earl Strickland
Shane Van Boening

You can only select 4 names as the top 4 names of all time in the world of pocket billiards.

After this US Open, I'm electing Shane to my top 4 - his three in a row run for a total of 4 US Opens is unprecedented. I have to put him up there.

What are your top 4 names in the sports history?

Those four and Jean in the middle.

Mosconi wouldn't be there. He played one game and one game only.

Reyes had no 9 Ball break and could not play BankPool to save his life. He is the best all-around player in history though and belongs on the mount.

Earl has embarrassed himself and his country so many times that he should be banned from any consideration for any kudos ever.

Shane Van Boening could not be on it if integrity, honesty and decency were requisite.

"Pool Only"
Mosconi
Reyes.. AND THEN...
Lassiter
Strickland (only because of the 5(?) world titles along with the 5 US Opens)

HOWEVER -- Shane is easily in my to 10 and closing fast! but Nick Varner has to be given his credits with titles in all games. (and with the respect to all the others Hall, etc I have not listed)

He is one of the Greats now! and by the time he is done... great chance at the mountain ... if he is not on it yet.......

Looks like we know who lost money on Shane...

hmmm... What ONB, did you give someone stupid odds before the tourney that Shane wouldn't three peat??? Not very smart...

To disparage him like that is still uncalled for here...

In the modern era:
Efren, Strickland, Sigel, Varner

Shane was my #5 here.

Way back when:
Mosconi, Greenleaf, Crane, Lassiter

All time:
Mosconi, Lassiter, Efren, Sigel

Hold on there you can't penelize Shane or Willie for the games they play at the time they played them ,, Willie dominated the world in his era ,,Shane's playing within the rules that are current can't blame him for that ,, guys like Nick V and Allan H great all around players don't get consideration?

Shane is a cheater as evidenced by his theft of a ball from John Morra at the 2012 DCC Bankpool finals.

Cheaters deserve the disparagement that comes their way. They asked for and earned it.

I'll give you this; Mosconi most definitely was the greatest player of his era and you are correct that he played the only game they played at that time. I'd put him on the mount with Efren.

Shane gets no consideration from me, ever, if honesty, integrity and decency are factored in to the mix. This has nothing to do with this just-concluded U.S. Open tourney.

The thread asks four the four players that you would put on the mountain. Not a discussion on who should be there.

I don't agree with your opinion about Shane, but this is an open forum and you are entitled to your opinion, just as much as I (and the rest of us) are entitled to ours.

So, if you would like to debate your opinion on an open forum, start a thread on the subject. I'm certain it would be popular.

Onto the point of this thread. Who would you put on the mountain ONB? My picks would be:

-Willie
-Efren
-Earl (I don't need to defend myself on this one, it's my mountain not yours :-P)
-Shane (once he starts winning world titles)

ONB, state your four or kindly move on. I don't agree with what you say, but I respect your right to say it. Let's just try to keep this thread fun.

You don't agree with my opinion of Shane? The man stole a ball and tried to steal a game from John Morra at the 2012 DCC Bankpool finals, why would he deserve a position of respect?

I gave my updated opinion: Mosconi & Reyes belong there.

The Original Poster of this thread did not list criteria that needed to be met for inclusion on the mount. If he had I would've followed it.

things must be slow over on onepocket.org  calling Dr. Bill!

Efren Reyes,
Francisco Bustamante,
Jose Parica,
and
Lorry De Leon

These are the gods of pool money games that made the Philippines the hotbed of so many pool talents invading the world today.

Great lists! I think I would pretty much agree with each of them. I would give special mention to Worst though, for being both a world 3-cushion champion and a Johnston City all-around champion.
