An Apology To Mark Wilson

Spot on

Mark Wilson has more experience as a winning team coach than any other captain/coach the US team has had previously.

What are your credentials?

By merit, I imagine you mean who has the most titles. If that were logical, we would have Sigel, Varner, Rempe, Hall, etc. on the team. Unfortunately, they're all past their prime.

Besides that, the Mosconi Cup is a TEAM EVENT! A player who wins singles events and matches does not necessarily make the best teammate.

ERMAHGERDDDDD!!!!!!!! Can we please stop talking about how Jeremy got robbed and let's focus on who really got robbed?

Please tell me which one you would pick here? Who had a better year? Just wondering...

Thats what I was thinking. I like Jeremy, but if anybody got robbed you gotta follow the money, to Woodward. Looks like dechaines stats in there though.

Not to nit pick but you originally said Jeremy is one of the best young players in the country. Isn't Jeremy in his early 30's? I mean thats still young but not like Skylar or Justin young.

Jeremy is 35 years old, just a year younger than Corey. Mike Dechaine is 27 years old and had a much better year. Just sayin...

the player on the left chart is indeed very impressive. .

The player on the right chart, someone has not yet added NJ State 9b Championship, 1st Place.

best,

Yes, Mike Dechaine got robbed. The American dream has been robbed. The bald eagle hangs it's head in shame...

Wow... sorry to venture a bit off topic here... but, seeing these amounts and "gross" winnings for this game (can't call it a sport in the USA) is really kind of sad...

Factor in the entry fees and expenses it takes to go to these tournaments and it reinforces why I took a 15 year hiatus from pool to focus on education and maintaining my day job.

Brian come on.... the NJ State 9ball? Who else played in that event? Matt Crah, Mike Miller, Spanky... am I missing anyone? Come on dog...

Just for the record, I said if anybody got robbed it was Woodward, not MD.

Yes and no. Yea he's young, hungry and talented but he's only done damage on the little tables. His big table game is gonna come up in the next few years and he will be one of the best.

Mike is the 2nd best in the country. He's an ******, a ********* and a ***** but he's a great player and should have been on that team.

I know I'm in the minority probably but I don't think that you owe anyone an apology. I think the mark Wilson owes everyone an apology for the way the 2014 team was chosen. Just like all of americas team such as the Ryder's cup you are chosen by merit not favoritism. My opinion is there should be four spots based on merit an let the captain have 1 pick not 5. To me mark has shown a lot of disrespect by his selection process an picking his favorites not the ones that deserve the spots

You are only in the minority cause you don't have a clue.

This year, players who have the utmost respect for the game were only going to be on the list.

And after the 8 were chosen, Mark Wilson didn't have as much say as many of you portray on who the final 5 were chosen. Read that as many times as you need to until you get it.

Also, if you know Mark Wilson he is not going to be effected by what someone says about him on the Internet. So John Barton don't worry if Mark is reading people's words or not. He will keep doing what he is doing -- which is promoting pool and the players that respect the game, each other and the fans.

And if you weren't on the original 8 then you were not going to be selected. Period. Some kid could have come out of the depths of the West Virginia mountains, spotted SVB the 7 ball and he still would not have been on the team. It is really getting old reading how Sky or Mike D or whoever that wasn't the original 8 got screwed. They didn't, for one reason or another, do what was needed to be originally selected. Next year maybe a different story.

I agree on paper Mike would look to be the better player to pick.

But Mike was not one of the 8 available to pick from.

Maybe next year Mike will be on the list to pick from and hopefully Jeremy also, but until then the team is chosen and I think we all need to stand behind them.

I'm just wondering what was needed to be originally selected. I'm also wondering what John Schmidt did that Mike Dechaine didn't. Or what Mike does wrong that John hasn't?

I happen to remember several times John has ranted on Facebook about why pool is a waste of time and why he doesn't waste his time with it. That doesn't strike me as "the utmost respect for the game". Sadly he deleted the thread and blocked me or I would reference his exact words.

Good for you!

Hey "Kicken Chicken", way to man up and admit you were wrong. I respect that and it shows your good character. I long ago lost track of the times I went back and apologized for unkind words. I have found an apology to be very liberating, shows we are human, Good for you!

Right, I forgot he was a small table player....I did read that somewhere. Agreed about Mike, he should have been on the team. Hopefully Schmidt will play well, he does have it in him. If anything, Johns presence might improve the overall chemistry of the team.

My 2 cents:

This year has all the earmarks of a rebuilding year, and that being the case(IMO), Mark has very little pressure on him. If they get crushed, a lot of people will say, give the new direction time and we will get better and eventually be competitive. If the result is close and we lose, that will be judged as a great start. If we happen to win, it will be comparable to the Miracle on Ice(in the pool world).

I agree 100%. America's 2nd best player by a mile isn't on the team, but that's neither here nor there. Mark had 8 guys to choose from and he made his choices.

And after the 8 were chosen, Mark Wilson didn't have as much say as many of you portray on who the final 5 were chosen. Read that as many times as you need to until you get it.

Rest assured, I read this over and over and over and over .... I really hope you're wrong here. If these five were not Mark's choices, which is very believable given who was named to the team, but instead some of the selections were made by, or influenced by Matchroom, then it's disgraceful. If this is the case, then Mark has been cheated here of the chance to go to battle with America's best, and American fans who believe that a Mosconi Cup spot has to be earned through sustained competitive excellence and hard work have been deceived.

A few simple rule of being a decent human being:

1. Don't talk about people behind their backs. Have an issue with someone? Respect them enough as another human being to address it personally with them. If they're not around, what good are your criticisms? What's their intent?

2. When you end up having to apologize for rule #1, an apology to the people you talked to is not who needs to accept your apology , they only accept the fact that you talk behind people's back.

3. You have a right to an opinion, you do not have a right to express it unsolicited. This falls under the inciting riot clause of our Constitution. Your opinion may be there is a fire when there is none, so unless you're asked for it, keep your opinions personal and let everyone else do the same.

4. If you are asked for your opinion, always remember rule #1.
