Does anyone know how I can get hold of my w-2 from the u.s. Open bar table championships earlier this year?

2013...IRS form.
2014 contact the promoter. Or wait until Aprilish and do the IRS form as you would for previous years.

And remember, sleeping in trucks is not a deduction.

Unless you can get a receipt.

it would probably be a 1099 and companies do not have to issue a 1099 for amounts under $600 (I forge the exact amount). Up to the payee to determine if they issue a 1099 or not for amounts below.

Its just another Feeding the Troll Scam thread.

After all her past financial woes, she just wants to show everyone that she wants to become an honest Tax paying citizen.

That $415 is long gone and very doubtful that she has any intention of paying tax on that or anything that she earns.

Nice try tho Rhea.

It's technically a 1099 and they won't issue it until January earliest, if they bother. Anyway, you don't need a copy. Just write in the amount as "other income". You can describe it as a tournament prize.

You don't need to file a federal return at all if you didn't make $10,000 being single. However, if you would like a refund on any withholdings, you need to file.

Here's a simple question and answer link to the IRS:

You may need to file a state tax return if you had wage income. Do not refer to yourself as "self-employed" unless you want t get dinged for a local business license, social security taxes, etc. etc.

Unlike other unnamed countries to the North, we Americans love paying taxes. We know it's our patriotic duty to support the many excellent programs our politicians work so diligently to preserve and develop every moment of their esteemed tenure. It truly is our pleasure to pay federal and state income tax, sales tax, social security and medicare taxes, state disability tax, property tax, unemployment insurance taxes, gasoline, alcohol and tobacco taxes, duties both domestic and foreign, excise tax, use tax, business federal, state and local taxes, license and motor vehicle fees, and a myriad of never ending fees we entrust our government to administer.

Chris, us Canucks love paying taxes to, on over priced items, to pay for our supposed Free Health Care.

20 bucks for a 6 pack, 15 for a pack of smokes. 28 for one tin of Skoal. That one kills my ass.

I believe that you guys pay 20 and change for a 5 pack of Skoal. Thats just our Sin Taxes. Apparently, its also a Sin to buy gasoline here too. Our Province is Oil Rich, yet, close to 6 a gallon.

I live in wheat and cattle country. You don't even want to know what a loaf of bread and a steak costs.

Trust me, anything we get for Free, isn't all that Free.

Know what, we even pay Tax on Tax, so there.

Wow you can eat, drink and smoke, but at those prices, you can't be merry!

On the other hand, my personal health insurance is over $800 per month, and I see the doctor about every 3 years...

Wow. At that cost Chris, your Dr. should spend the entire day with you, playing pool and take you out for supper later.

Thats just crazy. I guess our system, full of holes that it is isn't that terrible bad after all.

For that matter, if you do not get a 1099, don't bother claiming it.

I wonder if Pool tourney winnings are truly taxable income? I've always had a notion that you could make a good case that it isn't.

Dammit, I fell for it too, Terry. Got sucked right in...

I just read a pretty good audit story. (By the way, any audit story that doesn't involve me is pretty good).

IRS examiners noticed a self employed contractor's annual income exactly matched his reported 1099's. So they went back a few years. Lo and behold, the same thing happened in each of those last years. Knowing that relatively low percentages of 1099's get issued for contractors, they easily figured out that the contractor reported his income by the exact amounts he received in 1099's instead of his actual income, which was a lot more.

My pool winnings were pretty easy to bury. I saved two McDonald's receipts just in case.
