Bonus Ball - Thoughts After It All...

Didn't KK9 match up with Blackballed? lol

Yup. For cheap thrills as he stayed at our house. He was not as I imagined from his AZ presence, but was an absolute gentleman. He can play, got me at hill - hill.

On Bonus Ball topic, it is a helluva good game IMO. I have a set of balls courtesy of Pink and Lee Brett. I played it on live cam with JA as my partner, opposing Geno and Rhea. With @ 50 surrounded. FWIW, I don't recall Rhea missing a shot. But I had JA

Regardless, BB was too complicated and mismanaged. Sad.

... I wish I had some of your enthusiasm and vigor to launch what I've been working on, but when I look at the return and other repercussions to follow, it ain't worth my time and money and grief. ...

No Earthquake book?

When I vaguely referenced "THE" letter from post '13 Cup, I lost the trust of my friend and favorite player. And caught hell from many angles. The culture is a double edged sword and I don't see the true word coming out anytime soon. It is why I rarely post any longer.

Sad to see this.

Bonus Ball is a great game BUT it is hard to recognize it as a pool game anyone can be familiar with. I think Chris Bartrum said earlier "how come no body matches up in BB?" He is right 100%. All pool games are good games but the public had a hard time understanding BB and maybe 8 Ball might have been a better choice. What pool needs is another Minnesota Fats and if you think about it, he made it happen on Wide World of Sports. No other pool player has been able to capture the essence of pool better than he and he didn't win any of his matches. How's that for a following? Someone loses all his matches and public wants to see more of him.

Don't know about others but I would rather spend my money playing pool rather than watching it. I did enjoy watching it when it was offered for free.

Best way to deal with that is to make pool fun again for you. As long as you're having fun, that's all the matters.

Remember to count your blessings every now and then. It helps you deal with disappointments in other areas of life in general. ;)

So in effect what I speculated is what the majority of people actually experience - they are up to here in added monthly charges, and unless a TV or event show is buried within the realm of something they are already paying for, in other words essentially free of extra cost, then they will think hard and long before spending any additional money.

Yet Netflix, by far the biggest consumer of downstream internet traffic, is a subscription service used primarily by people already paying for cable/satellite. But, you get a lot of content for a decent price. The same could be said for other sports streaming packages, which again due to the near ubiquitousness of cable, coexist alongside one another.

As you say, though, it's tough to add this content to already high costs. Price points for these services are very sensitive. It's isnt that such fee based systems can't work alongside more traditional models, but one has to be very careful. Bonus Ball simply didnt or couldn't price themselves appropriately in comparison.

But, but, but .....

from just yeaterday.

This is not an official announcement by any means that its over and done for Bonus Ball as I am just posting my thoughts and opinion. Since I left earlier this year I have heard nothing and am uncertain if the arena is still there and intact. Perhaps they are revamping things and coming up with a game plan for marketing, making much needed changes and securing more money. I doubt there will ever be an official announcement it is done but who knows.

you have a good memory! yes, we brought our Bonus Balls to Break Time for them to matchup (due to an old inside joke), and as i recall, Black-Balled's response went a little something like:

"I'm not playing Bullsh1t Ball!"

as for the OP - Michaela told us in Vegas that they were planning to present for overseas market via Fox or ESPN. (KK9 knows which network.) they thought it would catch-on there better than here, and then the Asians could form their own teams (and our guys would be out).

since nothing's come to light in the past 11 months, i'm guessing they fed her the same "BB" line that Black-Balled came up with last summer.

Be careful with the bolded statement above. It's not true now, and very soon, will be a definite falsehood. Right now, after the FCC shot down Net Neutrality, it gives infrastructure-and-content vendors like your cable provider (e.g. Comcast / Time Warner) the ability to "throttle" online-only competing services like Netflix. That is to say, if you don't pay into an additional "value-added / premium" package and just get basic Internet, Comcast / Time Warner can legally throttle-down the throughput of competing providers like Netflix to the point where they're essentially unwatchable. You want no-drop / no-buffering livestreaming of movies, etc.? Then you must purchase *Comcast's* premium online service (even if you don't watch it), and even then, you're not guaranteed to get drop-less Netflix streaming.

Read more about it, here:

It's a real serious problem, and the Comcasts of the world are getting more and more power to take over the end-user portion of the Internet, blocking out competition.

Interesting one Sean. No wonder that Net Flix is pretty much a waste at out house.

I don't know how much what you said re Com Cast affects Net Flix in Canada. All I know is that it never works proper enuff to enjoy watching.

On the other hand, the Bonus Ball Arena is a beautiful structure. If it isn't ripped apart by now, it would be a shame to not figure out how to use it somehow.

I agree, it was a beautiful structure...The only thing is, unless someone comes up with some tangible method to "sell" pool, (in a city with hundreds of top flight ways, to be entertained)...it is completely useless !

I would be very surprised, if it is not gutted, and sold, for some (any) profitable venture..I would be willing to bet big $$$$, they are at least 'trying' to sell it !... It was a very expensive "white elephant".
