There is a lot of talk about how important the break is in rotation games…. and while I know a great break would still benefit players by making more balls etc…..

If we only allowed Americans to play…. who do you think would win a 10 ball ghost competition with the following format.

1. Player breaks… takes ball in hand.. tries to run out….. you miss you re-rack and start over…

2. You count how many racks you run before you miss 5 times.

Equipment: Standard Diamond 9 foot with 4.5 pockets.

Similar format to the home run competition in baseball. I think this would even the playing field immensely and really show us who the better players are at getting out.

If there is breaking involved, I will need to go with svb, still.

Even with BIH after the break, his advantage does not completely disappear.

He is making 2. And 3 balls on the break every time. Hard to fade that, when the guy shoots as straight as it gets too.

No question about it , Shane's ability to make a ball and get a shot on the one are a big advantage ,, weak breakers highly skilled such as Eferan and Parica running the rack numbers would go up dramatically when Shane's would not change as much

I think John Schmidt would be really tough in this format! How many players do you think are favored over him in this format?

Playing 10 ball, a lot....

10 Ball Ghost? Americans?

I wouldn't think there are "a lot" of Americans favored to beat him at 10 ball…… and his break is self proclaimed pretty bad in comparison to his pocketing/position skills..

But playing the ghost equalizes that a lot I would think.

He breaks 10 ball bad! Yes, bad......

Breaking bad in 10 ball, even with ball in hand after the break, is a bad beat. When you don't break pretty hard and hit them square balls tie up a lot.

Dechaine, Earl, Henny, Bergman, Morris, Nevel, CJ, Hillbilly off the top of my head

I seriously doubt your last three would be favored against john in a 10 ball ghost format… I also doubt that Henny would be the favorite in that format….

The other 4 maybe……

BIH after self-break...

I'd add Donny Mills to the short list of potential high flyers.

Orcollo would win nearly every time. He is the best shooter in the world. Maybe the guys from China could give him a tough time, but I'm not familiar with their games. However, Dennis basically doesn't miss if he can get a shot after the break.

I was gonna give Dennis a vote as well, but look at the op's post, he stated Americans only ;)

To do a true ghost pro event....here is a suggestion. Brake the balls and with a computer and lights, figure out the exact position of the balls and have each player start out with the EXACT same layout and shots. Much like a golf course and teeing off, but each player will bring something different. Play eighteen holes. That would be fun to watch.

I have had the exact same thought…. That would be a great idea…

you could even skip the break and create 18 layouts…minimal hang ups…. and see who wins.. that would be a true test of shooting.

totally agree, don't know why henny, nevel hillbilly get grouped but some rare people in the elite group they are a tier or 2 below at least

I'm inclined to agree with those who suggest that Shane and Dennis would be the two best at this. Ko Pin Yi and Darren might be next best.

I'd have to pick Dennis over Shane if this were tried.

Someone could run this on the side at a tournament and charge each player 100.00 per turn….. The winner gets the pot…. You could let players have buy backs and play multiple times… It would make for some great pool to watch… Fantastic streaming….. this would also give the players something fun to do between matches….

CJ is close to being back, all he lacks is a few months of hard work and the burning hunger required to once again compete at pools top level

Henny, Nevel and Hillbilly have much stronger breaks than Schmidt and I like them with BIH after the break

It would be fun to sweat and perhaps our opinions will be validated
