My apologies to Earl

Good catch! I think the two of them are very comparable in their behavior. Kind of interesting as well to see all the young guns, experienced from massive amount of online play, running all over Phil these days with their ultra aggressive style of play. I see more of Phil as a commentator than at the final table.
 
Phil is definately a deuche. But that by no means makes Earl's behavior acceptable.

Yes, because anyone's definition of a POS is they get emotional while playing professional sports at the highest levels humanly possible. And in a sport where shaking has been part of the game for a hundred years or more....

I like earl cause away from the table he is a good dude....and I understand because in another sport I competed in for many years, I played better when I was pissed off, and looked for any slight by the other team to put me in the "zone".

I usually found the slight, sometimes I didn't, but I don't regret a thing, and the guys I played for loved me, the guys I played against wanted me injured, crippled or dead :thumbup:

That is funny sht there....I saw all those when they happened but I think they are funnier as time goes by......I'm not a huge fan of Phil, not because he blows up, but I do enjoy when it happens cause it means he is losing.

Plus, you know his wife is a psychiatrist, seriously.....she really is.

Do u understand how many folks play poker, or have played poker at some time? Probably about 80 percent of the folks I know.....it's popular and it gets ratings, and the payouts are huge......something, unfortunately pool can't say. :(

Earl is not a good person away from the table either. He's not capable of having a conversation like a normal human. It's just him spewing his thoughts about pool. He says his crazy radical thoughts and if you don't just nod your head and agree, he goes ape shit.

Well, I've heard nothing but good things about him away from the table, and spent a weekend with him at a tourney in Omaha (ring side).

I transported him back and forth from the hotel to the pool hall every day, and stayed with him after matches because some folks try to provoke him intentionally. But, he signed everything, talked about non pool stuff, and the fans seemed to really like him.

I friend of mine was suppose to go with me, so driving Earl back to the hotel, I tell Earl about it. I told him I was gonna call him and give him grief. I called him up and put it on speaker, and before my buddy could answer Earl says "let me talk to him" and he took the phone, told him he was Earl, and that he was a crazy for not coming to this match. They spoke for about 5 minutes, and it was funny as hell. My buddy got a kick out of it... a HOF pool payer calling him back in Chicago to razz him. How strong is that :cool:

But, if you had a poor experience with Earl, nothing I can do about that. But if Earl is ever in Chicago, he's got a place to stay, he's cool in my book.

I see Earl quite a bit. Sometimes he's playing and sometimes he's just at the poolroom. He isn't always a terrible human. I'm not a doctor but I'm pretty certain he's bi-polar and under medicated. I once gave him a ride, maybe 10 blocks, to his apartment. He was nice enough and recognized I was doing him a favor. I would say the ratio of asshat:nonasshat moments are about 4:1 though.

I don't play poker or know anything about professional poker. Do Helmuth and the other known players have backers who put up their entry fee for a slice of their winnings?
