Best Break tip?

Correct they are non leather. It's not G10 nor phenolic
Just a marketing ploy. The tip is not special enough to warrant the price increase over a standard phenolic tip. Just install a water buffalo tip. It's cheap enough that if you don't like it, something else can always be put on instead.
Actually they make them backwards.
The leather needs to be on the outside so you can use English.
G-10 on the inside for hitting the cueball around the center.
When they first come out, some were splitting in half.
Now I have made break tips with the leather on the outside and
G-10 on the inside and they work great.:thumbup:
And for a leather tip...heck, I'll just use a Triangle.:smile:
My vote is for White Diamond. Originally developed as a jump tip, works great for breaking. If used on a jump/break stick, would be my first choice. Excellent qualities (jump or break with spin) without the metal sounding tink. If it is for a dedicated break only stick, you might want the Samsara or something similar.

I have had the best luck with the samsara followed by a everest hard tip. Tried the tiger ice breaker and had the tip replaced by having it sanded down and replaced with everest. All the cue guy had on hand. Would replace it but the shaft is for sell. I sold the cue it went to. If you have 3/8 x 10 threads and want to try it, PM me. I have tried phenolic tips and would use a house cue before i relied on phenolic. It does work for some bu not for me.
That's what I've always thought too.
When I first heard about the tip, I thought it sounded like a great idea, but then I read about it and always felt they did it backwards. Although when you read their explanation for why they put it together the way they did (i.e. the phenolic on the outside prevents the leather in the middle from compressing/expanding), but I just think it would be better the other way around if you had the phenolic in the middle so the primary contact area is made of the hardest material and then you have the added benefit of fixing the biggest complaint about phenolic tips by making the outside leather preventing miscues...I would buy a tip like that.
Why do you say phenolic gives a lack of control? Your *stroke* gives a lack of control. If you hit the break correctly, a phenolic tip will give exactly the same control as a leather tip. Hit the center, control the cue ball.
If you insist on leather, I think the Samsara break tip is excellent. Does exactly what you say. A well compacted Kamui black hard tip is kinda cool. I have had great results with the WB water buffalo tips as well.

What makes them the best besides your interest in them? What qualities are unique to that tip that can't be found in other tips?

out of the tips I've tried, White Diamond and Samsara have given the best results. Taom tips have the potential to be a better tip once they fix the shattering issue. I miscued with it and knocked a chunk off. Went right back to Samsara. I've heard of some people using Kamui brown hard as a break tip with good results. I'm thinking of trying Outsville's hammerhead break tip next.
