New 'wanted' forum - How to bump??

Absolutely love this cue.

I have a couple threads in the wanted forum but can't bump them after 48 hours.

My replies go but the thread doesn't come to the top...

How are we supposed to bump them??

Same issue for me brother. I`m thinking I need to start an all new thread for my milk dud tip thread, since I original started it back in 2011. Not sure what to do with this new FS section. I usually only bump my thread about every week or two, maybe longer if I`m out of them. Very confused with all of this new stuff. I guess some people ruined it for the guys that stayed with in the rules of the forum.

I'll probably be hitting you up soon for a few more tips, speaking of.

I'm trying to keep one kind of tip I like that's uncommon on my shafts for various cues. A lot of people around here always asking about tips and what I use. I always try to push for the people I support.

Going to get one of yours on a Sugartree shaft. Got a Ki-Tech Hard on a couple shafts. Need to get a M and S soon.

Have one of yours on my Keith Hanssen sneaky, which is probably my most favorite player. Everyone who's played with it LOVES the action they get. Partly because of your milk dud.

It's got a shaft close to 11.25 though. Lot of people say they can't play with it, so it isn't fair to them I guess to try it lol.

But yeah the new forum thing kind of sucks. I like the option of adding a BIN button to threads, but that's about it.

Here's something I wrote in the Panjo thread. I haven't seen anyone say it isn't accurate. But if it isn't, please let me know.

  • If I'm understanding this change correctly, the default ordering of threads has been changed. The default is now to order by "Thread Start Time." With that default, bumping (adding a post to an old thread) does not move the thread back to the top.

However, we have the option to have the threads sorted by "Last Post Time." For people who choose that option, a bumped thread will be moved to the top of the list.

So bumping still does what you want, but only for those who select the "Last Post Time" option. I wonder what percentage of members will be changing from the default to "Last Post Time" in order to more easily find bumped threads.

I just saw that after fiddling around with it.

Why can't the default setting be set to that, rather than have us have to click it each time... I think that would be beneficial. Especially for the older members who may be 'internet challenged'

Figuring it out took me a while even, and I'm a "young guy"

I think the answer to your question is, so many people abused the forum with so many subsequent complaints that Admin acted upon it. Instead of bumping your for sale thread, your thread should now stay on the first few pages for awhile. I personally think this newer system is an improvement.

What's not clear is, does this new system prevent someone from repeatedly keeping their for sale items on the first few pages by simply starting a new thread? Do the rules prevent that in some manner? That's unclear to me.

Here's the bottom line. The old system was broke. Cues weren't selling in very well even at substantially discounted prices. Hopefully, this new system will be a true improvement. I applaud Admin for listening to feedback and taking steps to improve it. Time will determine the degree those efforts are successful.

But even in the wanted forum, not the for sale stuff, you can't bump threads.

You can. But you have to adjust your settings each time.

I don't think it should be set up the way it is, but that's just me.

Either way they do it there's a catch...

I think the new way of doing things killed the for sale section. You used to see several new ads everyday now it seems there are very few. Maybe its just me......

What a pile of shit the wanted for sale section is now,

Thanks

It's better than it has been. The horrible bumpers and their crews have been squashed. Oh darn, need to make a new thread. That's hard work.

The flippers haven't been on in force yet. A week's respite.

new thread

So I need to make a new thread every 2 days to get my cues on the front page ?

I liked it better when it was a free for all,

The forum is moving much slower now. A new thread once a week will suffice, I'd bet. I noticed a few dealers finally consolidating listings, too! The change had many positive aspects. Still needs some tweaking but it is much better now as a whole.

I don't like the new system...

Where do you go to select "post last time" option? I've bumped my thread and it's still on page 3 or 4.

There are better ways to have dealt with rule abusers than to punish the ones who use the system correctly.

A bump is a vital part of the selling process. Adding extra steps and expecting people to go through a process really isn't going to make things run more efficiently.

With this much traffic flow there needs to be a dedicated mod or really a group that moderates that one forum. An auto bump feature partnered with tighter moderation might be a better idea. This way its out of the hands of the abusers.

Dividing things up a bit was a good idea but the rest of it needs more revision.

I do applaud the attempt to make change I just don't think this will be the solution we're all looking for.

This is the feedback that I was hoping for.

Seems to me, this is the best solution:
- Set forum default to "Last Post Time"
- Set default to only allow thread starter to reply in their own thread.
- Set default to only allow thread replies every 48 hours.

These are all vBulletin features and can be activated immediately.

The only downside is that members must contact the thread starter via private message or email. The upside is that members will no longer be able to comment about the cue playing "lights out" or saying how nice of a guy the thread starter is.

It is very unfortunate that the same members had to ruin it over and over for others, but you can't fix stupid. I would be very happy to moderate the forums if it were asked of me, but if a good system is in place, I don't think much moderation will be needed.

Excellent points, Bishop. It's like 'the system' has trained users how to bump threads up for years and now that aspect is effectively being taken away. I don't think that's a good solution, nor is it the solution that most users are looking for. I wished everyone were more search-savvy, but the fact is that many people who browse here just don't know exactly what they are looking for with a purchase and just like to browse (that's always been a huge attraction here....lots of different items). Also, the way the search function limits character searches is quite a pain sometimes.

It seems Mike and staff are looking for a magic potion that removes almost all need for moderation. I don't think that's realistic unfortunately. The W/FS has always needed some consistent moderator presence and always will, unless you run everyone off.

Don't think anyone has all the right answers, but many of us have been asking for a little more W/FS 'structure' for a long time....i.e. a handful (max) of subsections.

Appreciate all that you guys do for the site & forums.

Over the years I have seen dozens of reasonable and logical suggestions concerning the wanted for sale section..

Now the wanted for sale section is dead, because there advertisers don't want to compete with us is what this all boils down to.

Trying to sale in the wanted for sale section is like dealing with the government.
Unreasonable because they make a easy job hard and they don't give a rats ass.

After many tries I got a couple new threads started a couple days ago . I tried again today to start a new thread , and it will not load . Nothing .

The for sale section Is DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are in one of the three sub-forums of the Wanted/For Sale Forum, such as the "For Sale Items" sub-forum --

Scroll down below the threads. You'll find a "New Thread" button on the left that you may have used at some time to start a new thread. Look right below that button and you'll find a "Display Options" box where you can choose the "Last Post Time" sorting option.

Correct me if I'm wrong please but that doesn't solve the Sellers issue of wanting to bump their thread to the top so other people can see it UNLESS the viewers also change this setting as well.
