New 'wanted' forum - How to bump??

Correct me if I'm wrong please but that doesn't solve the Sellers issue of wanting to bump their thread to the top so other people can see it UNLESS the viewers also change this setting as well.

You are correct.
The issue was over-bumping. This is a temporary fix.

Potential buyers can use the search feature to single out items they are looking for.

If the issue is really over bumping, then why isn't that person being schooled and if the continue then banned them.

This is the only section where every member gets punished for the acts of a few.
You don't find that strange ?

What is fixed, no one can bump there thread to the top and you called that fixed.
Next time you need you car fixed bring it to me.

Temporary (Right ) from here its just gets worse.

What a total cluster @%$&

The WTS couldn't of been made worse if the were trying, which I think that's is exactly what's happening.

Banners make money for AZB, WFS is just in the way of business.

Do I find it strange? Yes. I also find it strange that AzB allows members to come back, that have been banned multiple times.

According to the mods/admins it is temporary, so I am only reiterating what they have posted. It's a three way tie right now, some say they like it, some say they hate it, and then there are some that are willing to compromise.

Banners

If I was paying for a banner I guess I would ***** about the wanted for sale section to.

Why should the guys get to sale their cues in there for free.
and the big billiard related supply houses have to pay.

Some of the changes that have happened, do the math for yourself..

At one time no one could sale a new cue in the WFS..................
Only used cues ?

Then they let us back in because term used could be worded around like I shot one game with the cue so its not new but the same as new condition.
Or there was so many complaints and law suits that it Took AZB 4 mouth for their lawyers to get things straightened out with the paid advertisers who buys the banners so we could once again sale new cues in the WFS.

Personally I just stopped selling cues in here period, for one reason Jerry PMed me and said he couldn't have new cues being sold in the WFS at that time.
I have enough respect for Jerry that I wouldn't want him to have any kind of grief because I ran a thread with a new cue in it.

Then the 2 day bump rule came into effect and that also slowed the sales of cues for me.

Anymore I don't even know if its worth listing a cue in the WFS its so dead and with these new rules I feel like I am so untrusted that I am not even adult enough to bump my own damn thread.

Point blank and a fact, when I first joined I didn't know about the bumping rule and I did abuse it.
but if anyone looks at my threads you will notice I only bump every 3 or 4 days anyway.

Shit I was in the hospital or in recovery this whole year and didn't bump my cues for 6 straight months.

Another fact is the WFS is pretty self policed, a seller starts bumping his threads to much and all the sellers would be on there ass and red rep them........................

So this over bumping issue really isn't a issue any more, is has been slowed down to almost never happing now,
but that's the excuse that we are to believe?

I don't what to say, I don't want argue or put anyone down but the WFS has been made into like watching paint dry.

I missed the days when I could chime in and say I owned one of those cues and like it allot, Or say the seller is top notch and honest.
I liked that support system , and it was taken away from us.

Even the buyers had a support system, shit I know of tons of guys in here you could sent a cue to them without them making any kind of advance payment and these guys word is good as gold.

Who wants loose these people besides the companies that buy the banners and are only in here for profits.
Part of this forum was built on these peoples moral values.
Now they cant even bump there thread to the front page.

I have sold a few cues, bought a few cues, and have met some great people doing it.
I hate to loose that to.

Most all the other section everyone has to assume that other members are some what trustworthy .
The WFS Its proved everyday, you know who is honest and who isn't.

And I have a solution to that, but it was shot down the last time I brought it up.

A forum that I used to frequent had a system of bumps, called "Up's," as in 'Up the thread.' When replying to the threads resulted in the threads being bumped, a vBulletin plug-in, allowing the thread starter to "bump" the thread, was employed. You could even pay for "Gold Up's," to keep your thread at the top for a certain period of time. This allowed for members to reply in the thread often and keep the threads from being "bumped" until 24 hours had passed and the thread starter manually "up'd" the thread.

Greate a Platinum Seller rank that will allow you to post in the For Sale section. $100-200 a year or somethingg, then change it back to how the forum was before with the same 48 hr bump rule.

Make a few of the better forum members moderators with the rights to delete and edit posts in that section.

Dave there are a few ways to make the WFS better. Money rules and the paid advertisers have squeezed the NPR to death.

You could have the best suggestions in the world , but the Paid advertisers are paying the bills and the little guys are on there way out.

The only way for us little guys could compete would be to form a co-op of many sellers going together and buy a banner...
Or start another billiards forum........................

It would take a allot of thought to cover all possible problems.

I would be receptive to these guidelines as a solution. I know it doesn't address all the problems but it would be a start in the right direction.

1. Install an autobump feature that bumps threads every 36 hours(3 days).

2. Sold threads get locked not removed.

3. After 30 days a non-response for 7 days gets the thread locked. Basically you have a month to move your product at which point you'll need to be active on the forum(updating price/pictures/info) and respond that your item has in fact not sold rather than simply allowing your thread to autobump every 3 days for X amount of months because you disappeared. You're safe from being locked as long as you remain in contact and haven't vanished.

4. Those who wish to pay 2.00 per thread will receive an autobump every 24 hours for 15 days. After 15 days you can renew for an additional 2.00 per 15 days up to 90 days.

5. Comments will be turned on and people can respond but only the autobump will move the thread back to the top. This way everyone can be as active as they like within a thread without it coming at the expense of a bump.

Fine tune it however you wish but this will drive a bit of revenue in the right direction and control the excessive bumping. To save money it will also prompt some to consolidate. I think a lot of us would be receptive to paying 2 bucks in order to gain the extra exposure.

True. And as I said in the Panjo thread, I wonder what percentage of members will be changing from the default of "Thread Start Time" to "Last Post Time" in order to more easily find bumped threads. It's an annoyance to change the display option every time you return to that forum, but it takes only a few seconds to accomplish.

This is the feedback that I was hoping for.

Seems to me, this is the best solution:
- Set forum default to "Last Post Time"
- Set default to only allow thread starter to reply in their own thread.
- Set default to only allow thread replies every 48 hours.

These are all vBulletin features and can be activated immediately.

The only downside is that members must contact the thread starter via private message or email. The upside is that members will no longer be able to comment about the cue playing "lights out" or saying how nice of a guy the thread starter is.

It is very unfortunate that the same members had to ruin it over and over for others, but you can't fix stupid. I would be very happy to moderate the forums if it were asked of me, but if a good system is in place, I don't think much moderation will be needed.

These are great ideas – it's a good way…

…in the German Forums we are allowed only 5 items at the same time (which is totally okay).

If we start a 6th item, the oldest one closes automatically!!! :yeah:

AND:
no other people can bump your thread – so the „bet it's a good player“, „great guy“, „would buy it if I had the money“ and other bumpedys won't happen! :idea2:

This is a great thing, cause if someone's interested, he can contact you by PM!

But the setting now makes no sense to me:
also from the buyers perspective – maybe I'm interested in a cue (and can't decide between a few cues by now, or have a limited budget, or or or…) and the seller bumps his cue with a price reduction – I won't see it, if the cue has been posted some weeks ago!
I DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH MAYBE 17 SITES to see the cue is reduced.

Luckily I found my own way – whenever I come in here, the „For Sale“-section is sorted by last post…
…which makes the most sense to me, so I'll just have to go through maybe the first 3 sites to see all new posts, bumps, etc…
