Mosconi Cup Unpicked Players Bail Out

For all any one here on AZ knows Mark is fine with the reason behind the decision for these three players not going. :grin-square:

Just FYI (and "D'oh!!" on my part) -- I corrected my post you quoted where I mentioned "Justin" instead of Oscar. (Thanks AtLarge!)

I guarantee there's more to the backchannel story than we, the AZB readership, are "supposing" at. There's most likely many factors in play.

And I agree with Lou, in that no matter what, those 3 are in a very difficult position, especially after press releases stating they were going. You, in the position of one of those three players, *have* to weigh in your mind the consequences of this decision, in being able to go / be selected to go to the Mosconi Cup in the future as a player.

Lou,

Your choice of words is completely negative and repetitive. You keep saying "Bail" or other negative words as it relates to this situation and group of guys. You are strongly biased. Your choice of words misstates the situation and paints a picture contrary to the facts as we know them.

You don't like bailed. What words would you like me to use? Ditched? Fled? Dumped? Left out hanging to dry?

Lou Figueroa

A classy guy would have come to this thread and already said it by now. He is the one who put these three pkayers into this position where they are now getting tarred and feathered and Mr. Classy is nowhere to be seen and has obviously chosen to sit back and let it happen.

I would love to see Mark come here and show some class, I really would. Mark? Hello Mark?

I don't know that Mark even has an account here, and if I had his ear, I'd counsel him not to bother.

How about respectfully declined the offer!

No negative connotation!

You are smart enough to know this and just being difficult.

Kd

So you can read minds now, that's great, sound familiar ? :D

Try and keep up. What a person says and thinks are always two separate things, even if they are in harmony.

Chant that a few times to yourself and see if you can figure it out.

I have no doubt they were respectful in their declination.

That doesn't change that they bailed.

Lou Figueroa
respectfully bailed...
nah

You seem to forget people are free to do as they please. Their decision is not to your liking and that is just too bad! People will make many choices over a lifetime you may not agree with. Get used to disappointment, Sir. You will see a ton of it. Just sad that you choose to malign the people that think and "Act" different then you would like despite having numerous grounds to justify the decision and nullify any perceived or real agreement. Especially, when the terms are being made up along the way and not stipulated explicitly in advance.

I am not disappointed in the least. It is what it is.

But, we are all fans of the sport here, so we talk about things and often disagree.

Yes, people are free to do as they please until they commit to a specific action. They make a promise. A guarantee. A contract, verbal or otherwise. Are they still free to do what they want? Sure. But only at the expense of their honor and credibility.

Now, if you don't particularly value and care about principles like that, even as it pertains to a pool match, I get that. But please remember, there are those of us that have not totally thrown our skirts up in the air and bought into all the excuses and apologies.

Lou Figueroa

From what i have seen and heard from Mark, Oscar Dominguez spots him the 5 out when it comes to class.

I don't know Oscar, but I do know Mark. So I would not offer an opinion.

Sooooo, unless *you* know both, I'd say you are speaking out of your derrière.

Again you persist,

You elude to "principles, promises, guarantee, contract & commit" keep getting thrown around above but you never answer if the lack of a merit based selection was grounds to nullify the contract when that was what was eluded to at the start???

You never answer how these 3 should be held accountable to terms that were never disclosed "PRIOR" to their joining and involvement???

These 2 factors are major in drawing conclusions about their character but you keep electing to over look significant information and details! Why???

If I were Matchroom, and had put out a press release that they were coming -- those guys never see a Mosconi Cup from a player's chair.

I'm sure the people at matchroom are devastated. Scrambling to find ways to make the production a success now. I've heard they've lost $4 million in ad dollars so far. The Prime Minister was scheduled to come is boycotting the event. Mosconi himself has come back from the dead just to shake his head. Sad day for pool. I hope we can recover from this.

Clearly

What a dumb thread. And some of the people here really make me shake my head.

They didn't get selected to play, so they're not going. That doesn't seem too crazy to me.

If they said they were going to go if they didn't make the final five do you still stand behind your statement ?

Yes. 100% wtf does it matter if they go or don't go? Three less cheerleaders? lol

"Bail" has that negative assumption attached to it that says they agreed to go.

I think you like the word for that reason even though it has not been proven to be true.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

It means that you don't believe in taking a man at his word and then living up to that obligation. Pretty obvious that you never served in the military or any other thing that took a man at his word!

I don't know Oscar, but I do know Mark. So I would not offer an opinion.

Both are known public figures in the pool world and they can be judged on the image and actions they put forth to the public. On that Mark and his so called "class" has not impressed me much to date, and his lack of actual response on this issue only furthers my negative impression of him.
