*** Official Day Three Mosconi Cup Updates

With all the talk about John Schmidt ( I agree with all of it, and more)
I ask one question...WHERE IS THE COACH?

Isn't it part of the coaches job to keep players in check? Mentally, Emotionally,Physically,...They look like a bunch of mopes. Schmidt took everyone out of their game and Wilson let it happen.

I don't see Mark Wilson being all he is cracked up to be, maybe I am missing something, I don't think so, if so, enlighten me..PLEASE

Maybe he was counting on the Navy Seal to coach.
That is not a knock on Navy seals, I bleed red, white and blue.

Schmidt talks too much, way too much. It was like he was in a pool room playing for a beer with all the chatter coming out of his mouth.

I've seen John play in person numerous times and that's just the way he deals with it. He jokes about choking, dogging it, how bad he's playing, or hit a shot. I'd guess everyone on the team knows that that's John just being John and he didn't bring anyone down.

How do you know his words didn't affect his teammates ?
It's common sense that hearing your teammates whining non-stop is not gonna help to boost up team's moral.
If he wanted to be himself so he shouldn't be on a team.
It seems common sense sometimes is not common at all.

Has anyone totaled up the wo/loss records for the US for the first three days?

Thanks

SVB and Hall on the team next year with some new guys.

Mike D
Skylar
I think Archer can still play.

Schmidt played good in the warm up, but has dogged his brains out since.
Corey just doesn't have it (anymore!?!), I don't know for sure.
Bergman need seasoning or something. He is so careless, which is fine playing a 1,000 set. Not so much in a race to 5 on the Mosconi Cup team.

Just my opinion. I know someones gonna be upset by it. I do understand the next one is a year away. Possibly Bergman can bring his game up a ball. I don't think hes a bad teammate at all. His body language seems bad, but I realize thats just him.

I pretty much agree with most of this sentiment. I like watching Archer play, but I really think it's a testosterone filled setting best suited to some of the younger guys. I definitely like the mention of Mike and Skylar and think Mike should have been on the team this year. As for Schmidt, he's a fish out of water. Lou and some of the other guys are vehemently defending him and I'm sure he gave his best, but it's just not good enough. He's a specialist (straight pool) and they're playing nine ball. On top of that, he just doesn't seem to have the nerves for that environment. Bergman can play, but I, too, don't like his "I could care less" look that he projects. Maybe he just needs more international competition. He certainly can play at times and is more suited to nine ball than Schmidt. As for Corey, that's the one point I don't really agree with. I thought Corey was fine. I think he only struggled when Schmidt kept trying to tell him how to play. Corey was in the mindset to win and played well when Schmidt left him alone.

As an early forecast, I'll take the following for next year's team (Not giving up on a comeback this year yet though!)

SVB
Hall
Deuel
Skylar
Dechaine

(Sorry Earl, you still have the game, your antics are just too embarrassing on a world stage and the sport doesn't need that right now. It's also hard for me to leave Archer off of this list. Watching him play is worth the price of admission at any event. He would be my first alternate.)

Earl for non playing captain then.

Schmit is 1-4.Actually 1-5 if you count the 1st match and its sure to be his final records.

Team USA needs Shane to start the momentum tomorrow and put the heat on Team Europe and alot of luck to pull off the victory.....

I'll have to say I like Wilson as Captain, maybe they can make an assistant or 'Coach' and put someone like Johnny Archer in there. Earl is Earl and he doesn't need to be anywhere near the TV cameras. He's too 'aware' of them and they prod him into being vain and spouting off into one of his embarrassing routines. I actually would like to see someone old school and with a little more class in front of the cameras in there. Someone not so vain as Earl. Regardless, it starts with choosing the right team. Something we didn't do this year when we took players whose primary disciplines weren't nine ball and didn't have the right attitude. This event is about your country, not you, as a player. No room for any players with antics, bad attitudes, no vain players, just players that understand the meaning of the event and want to represent our great country. I think Wilson has that, and most of this year's team. It just needs tweaking.

Am I the only one who noticed that neils fouled on that last 9 ball? Ref picks neils cue up before the cue ball can run into it.

I agree, if the ref didn't pick up Niel's cue, it looked like the cueball would have hit it. I believe that would have been a foul but not 100% sure...what was the ref doing anyway?
