To me, what Ian Anderson, the WPA and other world bodies did this past week, to STOP Charlie Williams from using World Championship wording is HUGE, and the best thing I've heard in YEARS to get the pros moving in the same direction.
This is the finger in the dyke so to speak, the WPA has finally plugged that HOLE to get rid of the CW drip.

Yes, can't stand CW's slimey business practices. But, now lets see if the great WPA can actually organize a women's World 10 Ball event. They need to put up or shutup.
 
Aside from the fact that the WPA mission statement reads "To Promote pool in Asia and Europe" and the BCA signed on with them and abanoned pool in the West... I am sure both governing bodies have their fingers firmly planted somewhere... well their thumbs actually.... Now I just hope they sit and spin....

As far as CW... I do think there needs to be another governing body established to go toe to toe with the WPA as far as titles and World championships since they will never be invested or interested in pool in the US... I just do not think the industry will get behind CW for an asundry of reasons.... Maybe next generation......

The initial drive to support them was over IOC regonition and to get pool on the map and in the olympic games... Pool will never be in the olympics aside from as a demonstration sport or waht ever it's slated to be in 2027? So continued support of the WPA does nothing but weaken Western pool while supporting it abroad where IOC athletes get govt sponsorships and stipends.... We need a Western Sanctionin/Governing Body and maybe we can pick ourselves back up... BCA needs to give up it's farse and swap to BTA.. Billiard Tradeshow of America or LTA Leisure Tradeshow of America....

No inclusion in the Asian Games??... Not in the commonwealth games??..... So far all that has happened is the WPA takes fees and says hey you have a WOLD CHAMPIONSHIP.... Their usefulness was at an end the day they were founded....

I agree with OP (bill) that it is an important step to force CW back in line (kinda).

But there is so much confusion in American pool.

The US is out of synch with most other countries and how their federations support pool. I will agree the BCA dropped the ball - partly because too many of the board members do NOT understand pool or it's history.

Their is no standard in this country- the BCA points disappeared a couple years ago - and that has had a big negative affect. And it could have been avoided.

We (CSI) had a good solid answer - it just couldn't get implemented ( or accepted/endorsed) in a timely fashion.

History has shown too much conflict between the movers and shakers in this country. The only solution is a 'benevolent dictatorship' that will respond to issues in a firm and fair method. But it must have industry support.

Is there an answer??? Yes there is- but I ain't talking .........YET!!!

If the WPA had any balls, they'd do something about the BCA here in America, the entity that is supposed to be the governing body of North American pool. Instead, they stand by silently and allow the BCA to continue to carry the title. BCA should be disbanded from WPA. If WPA admonishes Charlie Williams, they should also strip BCA of its credentials and let the BCA continue to serve its industry members, which is all they care about.

For future reference finger in the dyke... plugging the hole, does not mean what you think it does anymore.
